Preseason Football Rankings

They graduate their entire o-line and a few d lineman and their best LB.

Return 9-10 starters and a 3-year starter at RB and 4-year starter at QB.

One of the guys they return played both ways last year and two of the guys they graduated played both ways, so if you count that, they actually return right about half their starters, the line will be a big question though. They’re still very rich in skill positions.
I knew Rackley and the RB returned, and no doubt those two are really, really good. But losing the two TE's the last two years and all of that O-line...just think they'll take a big step back. Losing Coach Ary is obviously a big loss too. Read an article where the new coach wants to play more up tempo and in the spread and throw it around a lot more. Rackley can wing it, but if he's running for his life on half the snaps it's going to take a toll. It'll be interesting to see how they replace the lost pieces. They've had such a tough identity under Ary, and really got some things done that way. Seemed like that was a style they really bought in to. I'm intrigued at how the changes will look.

West Plains has actually been running out of the spread the majority of the time the last few years. Well, it’s a shotgun formation at least. Sometimes they have them bunched but they had them spread out quite a bit. They’ve just been running the ball out of that formation more often than not.

It will definitely be interesting to see how this year goes. They have to replace a lot up front on offense. But have I think all but one skill player back on O.

I’m most looking forward to the Camdenton game.
West Plains got them 41-7 last year.

And the Zizzers are 5-1 against the Lakers the last 5 years. Only loss coming early in the season a few years ago, and then West Plains beat them come District time that year. It’s almost turned into quite the matchup. I believe three of those six games were decided by 1 point.

Time will tell this year but last year's Joplin team was the best Joplin team since Parkwood IMO. They would have done just fine playing out of any part of the state. Would they have won 13 games playing against Blue Springs, Rock, etc each week? Probably not, but could have wound up in semis anyway.

As far as rankings in general go they are all pretty much based on last year at this point.

You had me at "Joplin shouldn't be ranked ..."

Does anyone really believe they'd be above .500 if they played a typical KC Class 6 schedule? Sure, a few idiots maybe, but any smart people?

Last years Joplin team would have been just fine playing anyone in Kansas City. Rockhurst was the best you had and they didn't look any better than Joplin did against CBC. Rankings always seem to start the year by using last years success. I think Joplin will be solid again this year. Playing Webb City and Carthage back to back is no picnic even for your class 6 KC teams.

Since you are hooked on last year exactly how many SWMO teams even played in a title game in 2018? Posts like this make my head hurt..............

Joplin is a average football team, playing good to middle of the road programs. Outside of Carthage (which as only been better for a few years) and Webb City (which is a smaller class and they usually lose that game) they don’t really play anyone. Joplin is although since last year a little better then they used to be. If they are healthy? They could compete in a KC conference. But let’s be real. Most years Joplin would be in the basement in a KC league.

Which isn't bad.

I think Joplin would be ok in class 6 kc . Would they win the league ? Doubt it but they wouldn't be in the basement. They are really talented

Joplin would be bottom dwellers in KC.

0-8 versus Rock
0-3 versus Ray Pec
0-2 versus Blue Springs South
0-1 versus Blue Springs
0-1 versus LSW
1-7 versus Lees Summit North
2-4 versus Lees Summit

3-26. Yeah.

Joey, you can’t compare the Joplin teams of the past 10-15 years, to the Joplin team of last year and this year.

On a regular, yes, Joplin would probably be a bottom feeder.

But last year and this year, they would be middle of the pack at the least in KC.

Joplin typically sucks . Nobody would dispute that. However the last 2 years they have been really good. I seem to remember them thumping everyone up untill they played Nationally ranked cbc in the semifinals. Coach Jasper has gotten that program where they should be . Idk of many kc schools that would have beat them last year .Hard to say because they didn't make it as far as Joplin did . Joplin has all their skill guys back but lost basically all of their lineman so idk how they stack up to last year but I can promise you that they wouldn't back down to any challengers . From what I've seen from them ...they will be one of the most physically talented teams Webb has seen in years . Speed at all positions , deep , and we'll coached

They might have been as high as #5 Class 6 school in kc last year, but possibly 8th, because I'd have to see them beat Park Hill or Liberty last year to believe it.

This team is not even the same program. Im a pretty pragmatic and if Rock was the best in KC last year Joplin would have been just fine. You do realize sometimes real good classes come through and change a program for a few years and sometimes long term. normally Joplin has not had the horses to compete with city teams and if we do they move to webb lol. Programs change under good coaching. Jasper is a good coach that pushes family so who knows maybe we will be better than we have been. Look at webb and Lamar they went from suckin to great. Lamar will have a harder time by not living near a larger metro area but they will be good for as long as their coach stays.

The only thing that hurts them is week in, week out, not being able to play high quality opponents. Thats why every year, six or seven of the top teams in C6 are from KC. Of course, it huts the kC teams beating each other up each week by the end of the season.

THIS is the entire point. KC metro C6 is a victim of its own excellence. Frankly the one team that really benefits this year is BLUE SPRINGS because they are in District 2 but they have to endure the Gold conference mine field.

2019 is an up (maybe WAY up) year in this always loaded class in KC given you can add my pre-season team to watch Liberty North to the mix. Another piece of this is the fact the Mean Green Falcon machine (Staley) is always extremely physical and plays a number of C6 squads. Last year's Staley-Park Hill game was, as I stated at the time, the MOST physical I have maybe ever attended.

Nobody is certainly denigrating what other squads like Joplin are doing. Frankly I am glad to see them compete well..............that community deserves it. In one game sure thing anyone can win. Over the course of nine vs. one very physical talented, DEEP team after another I wouldn't like their chances at all.

YES. And the HC left for Arkansas. Overall, though, the voters did a far better than average job ranking Class 4 PRE SEASON. No doubt the ebb and flow of the season will change a lot of these.
They return like a total of five starters on either side of the ball. Lost all of their offensive line and both tight ends.

That's cool. I have no idea, you ask why, i provided you with the info.
I do know they will be good at skill positions, however they are usually very soft on the line, which will be their downfall come districts or state playoffs.

Should the be ranked that high? I have no idea, rankings this early are dumb, especially with high school
Didn't do a whole lot against Westminster offensively, but still won 26-15 and did well defensively, which is a good sign their line has improved somewhat. We'll get a good idea how good they are this week when they take on Chicago Phillips at the Gateway Schalors Classic.

Yeah time will tell this year. My early impression is that it will be one of Joplin's better teams in last 20-25 years but probably not quite where they were last year. Even if Kirkwood was down some last year there have not been any recent Joplin teams that would curb stomp them like Joplin did last year. Plus they gave CBC as much trouble as anyone else last year. not much mind you but hey,.

I'm really happy for Joplin and the community. After wallowing in mediocrity for years, they have turned the corner. They have a coach who knows how to win, a stable of talented athletes and a belief that they can win.
However, they would find that playing in that suburban K C meat grinder week after week is a lot different beast. Not just the physical demands either, the mental fatigue that sets in becomes problematic as the season progresses because you seldom have a Friday without a quality opponent.
Not from either community, way over here in central Missouri, but just expressing my opinion.
Can anyone tell me who Joplin's DC and OC are? Better programs generally have more than just a good HC.

I believe Nick Reid is DC. He was an All American at Kansas. Sorry not sure on OC. Coach Reid has Joplin flying around and gang tackling better than Ive seen for years.
I agree week in week out is a grind in KC. It would be hard to stay healthy.

Thats it? Thats how you decide if a team is any good? lmao Boy you team must suck 9 out of ten years. SWMO has pretty good football Im sure you already know this. but Ill play , what did we have like 4 teams in 4 different classes play in the semifinals.... smh those teams must of sucked couldnt even make the championship game. I never really knew you city boys were so nervous about rural areas being good as well. how your head now?

The other school with which I have close family ties is Staley. Check out their record since opening...............not too shabby, either. In all honesty I was jabbing at you because of the unknown of Joplin playing one top team after another, which this Metro area will experience to an even greater degree this year. Class 6 is on the major upswing in KC.
