Predictions for the Trump presidency

My heart says Mitt should tell Trump to go pound sand, but my head says that we need adults like Romney to keep Trump somewhat in line.

I really respect Romney. Living close to Salt Lake City, you won't find anyone who knows him who thinks he's anything but a decent guy. I think if he takes the job, he will be doing it because he thinks it's out of duty to country.

GTHO with that. Rewind 4 years ago ya loon.

I almost voted for Romney. You really believe I'm a dyed in the wool democrat. I'm not. I voted for 1 democrat this year. Democrats were wrong to vilify Romney.

The last two President have already Mortgaged the future of the country for the good of the just the 1%. I kept telling you Neutron dems lost the vote of the Blue Collar worker when they stopped trying help them and only gave lip service.
I don't agree with this for Obama. I would go so far as to say this is really a poor criticism of him. The recovery has been pretty good over the last few years, and he has left a more sustainable budget situation than he inherited.

It's not to say he has been perfect, but he didn't screw the future of the nation. Bush made numerous major choices that are disasters - not funding Part D and the wars while cutting taxes was a total disaster that will affect the US for the next generation.

Choosing to not explicitly help one segment of the population may have been a poor election strategy but that doesn't mean it was a terrible way to manage public policy. There is no clear answer for how to fix the problems of the Rust Belt. Obama chose to focus on other areas where he felt his actions could definitively improve the country.

Duck it's like when you are a fan of a sports team, Even if your team signed one of the players you could not stand, if they won the title you would jump on the bandwagon no matter what. They all thought Trump did not stand a chance, now that he has won they need to get his attention on certain matters.
On one hand, this is a chance to try to control someone you think could damage the country.

On the other hand, it is a job. Say you applied for a dream job and didn't get it. The dream job or something close to it comes back up and you find that your boss will be someone from your past that you know is a nightmare. A sane person turns that job down or else they end up regretting it later.

He did nothing to work to balance the budget or slow down spending did he. Did he ever request a balanced budget?

As a human being if you live with yourself and that commit good for you. I personally see how his policies have hurt many people who's only issue was they did not to go to college and decided to work with their hands and their wages have not kept up with inflation the last 8 years and jobs have left to Mexico. That bothers me but I am glad you do not bother to care about those people and can write them off as easily as Obama did. As a person who cares deeply for more than just the rich or poor I want to see more of an effort from our President and congress to help everybody they can and pass legislation that is balanced not tipped to either the rich or poor. He has always seemed aloof and more concerned about his legacy!!! While not a fan of Trump I love it that most of Obama's legacy that he worked so hard on but benefited so little will probable be undone. I heard one guy say I was stupid enough to vote for the man twice and I am no better off now just glad Trump got voted in so his precious legacy that benefited so little will be gone.

He took over a budget with a deficit of 10% of GDP during a time of fiscal crisis. There is no world in which he should have been proposing balanced budgets.

He shrunk it from 10% of GDP to about 3%. That was the right path.

You are blaming Obama for something that isn't caused by Obama or any of his predecessors. The government is not the reason why manual labor is declining in power. The primary reason is technology, not trade. The idea that the Federal government can magically fix this is detached from reality. Can they do more? Probably, but we have to have a realistic perspective.

The truth is a terrible political message on this point, but it's basically impossible for the US government to increase manufacturing employment and wages to an extent that would come close to offsetting the impact of technological innovation and even limited trade.

There will still be NAFTA in four years, and even if it is gone it isn't going to address the core issues driving down manufacturing wages and employment.

You say that but Carrier jobs were not leaving because of of Technology! They were leaving because of cheap labor end of story and it does look like something was able to be done about. I should hold judgement until I see how it was done but it was done never the less.

Globalization is just a symptom of automation/technology. It's the manifestation of cheap transportation and efficient transfer of knowledge.

You might be right, but if he does not do anything his base will leave him and the republican party and jump on the next person who promises to do something about it.
I think he will get some changes that do nothing in practice. He'll have a story and no results. The story is all that matters from an electoral standpoint.

Who ever said warming is causing the destruction of the planet???? Warming is good for the earth,,,bad for idiots who built homes at sea level
I thinks it's funny that Trump's golf course in Ireland is having to build a wall because of rising sea levels. Maybe that's the great wall he was talking about during the campaign. Not sure how he'll get Mexico to pay for it though. :p
