Martinez will be the first Cardinals pitcher to go in for Tommy John with Jordan Waldon right on his heels. and then their is Jaimi

Speaking of predictions...lets go with record and NL Central standing. I'll favorite the link and if someone will remind me, I'll bring it back at the ASB and end of the season time. I'll fire away...

86-76...2nd place in the Central behind the Cubs and in front of the Bucos.

91-71 First place

C Marti was skipped yesterday but nothing to worry about according to brass. I for one am very worried.

Now Cooney joins Martinez on the slow as we go train. Meanwhile Cubs get Fowler back and get a little bit stronger. I'm starting to get a real bad feeling about the 2016 season.

Spring is in the air and the Birds open their spring schedule today!! Yahoooo!!!!! Much more exciting than the state of our Nation. Birds vs. anybody beats the he!! out of Trump vs Clinton:cool:

I predict the Cubs will be the Nationals of 2015. Cards win 92.

Only issues with that prediction is the Cubs do not have an inept manager, nor do they have a crap roster

The Cubs aren't throwing Desmond, Uggla, Lobaton, Dendekker, Worth or Reed Johnson on the field

If the Cubs make anything less than the World Series then Maddon is more inept than Mathemy.

Really? That seems to be the standard. Wins mean nothing to the Matheny whiners.
I think they mean a great deal, but I've said it numerous times...the front office deserves much of the credit. Matheny is just doing what he should basically be doing. Nothing special given the rosters he's had. Some things he does well, others not so much. But there's really not much comparison to Maddon. While Matheny frustrates to dog out of me sometimes, it could definitely be worse. Dusty Baker could be roaming in that dugout!

What has Maddon done that makes him so great in your eyes?:(

Being able to win in Tampa....period

Taking a Cubs team, that wasn't supposed to be much over .500, all the way to the NLCS

His ability to connect with his team in very unorthodox methods, that makes the game more enjoyable

9 years with Tampa Bay 754 - 705 record and one pennant 517% 1pennant
4 years with Birds 375-273 579% 1 pennant
Not going to knock JMaddon because he is a great Mgr, but you will never convince me he was better than Matheny this year.

Yea and he makes sure to call the media every time he does his cute stuff. Mr. Celebrity. Adorable to the media.

Everything, really. He combines Matheny's rapport with the guys along with excellent in-game management. He's easily a Top 3 manager.

Maddon actually knows which of his guys to play in tough spots, unlike Matheny.

That's a way to judge the GM, not a way to judge the manager. Plus there were massive differences in budget.

Yeah your right

I guess we will have agree to disagree. Take Lester, out take the #3 and 4hitters out Yadi the list went on and on of injuries and pick up an injured Moss as your top pick up at the trading deadline. Darn I guess every one of those 62 losses were Matheny's fault for playing the wrong guys. I'm jus thankful he got lucky 100 times. I guess well find out now that they are in the same division but I have the GM and budget excuses on my side now.

That budget thing only works if you're at the bottom. STL is not there.

Cubs lost time with Soler, La Stella, Cogs, Fowler, Montero, Ross, Grimm, Ramirez, Wada, Baez, Denorfia, and Russell for the NLCS. Won 97 games. Injuries happen. Hell, Texas made it just as far with worse injuries throughout the season

It's not that hard to successfully play Kolten Wong every day or Carlos Martinez every time he is healthy. Where the manager makes a difference is at the margin. The issue is that Matheny doesn't appear to grasp what players to use when. It was painfully obvious against the Giants in 2014 in the LCS (remember Wacha????), and it was also painfully obvious against the Cubs in 2015 (leaving multiple starters in too long and not accounting for when they would be pinch hit for, and continuing to pitch Siegrist like he is a shut down pitcher against lefties.)

Mike is undoubtedly good in the clubhouse but he has hurt the Cards in 2014 and 2015 when it mattered most.

It's amazing, the 2015 Cards would have been the best team in history if it wasn't for Matheny getting in the way. Right Rumor?

You can have the last word for now, but time will tell. He is got a lot of years left.

This play tells you everything you need to know about Metheny and his game management methods.

So yes, you could have probably won a few more games

GRICHUK was playing injured in center because the GM refused to make a deal for a bat to give the team depth it needed to have a successful post season. Let's be truthful here.

Lol. Here we go again. The Matheny bashers are already out in full force. I suppose the Cards should win the series every year. Anything less is all Mike's fault. Are you going to say anything less than a series title for the Cubbies is all Maddon's fault? Of course not. Guys getting hurt or just stinking it up on their own or simply running into a hot opponent won't be held against him like they are Mike. It's kind of comical but whatever floats your boat.

I think most of us that "bash" (so reminds me of the TH days on the bball board, btw) Matheny, do so because of his decision-making in games. For the record, I don't think calling a guy an average manager is bashing him. Those of you that think in a results oriented way probably think Dusty Baker is a good manager too. So I get it. Take a guy like Showalter. Not a great overall record, but I'm not sure there's a better manager out there, at least when it comes to stuff on the field. It's not like these guys all start with equal rosters. And you guys that thump your chest about how great MM is, typically only spout his record. Would he be as great in your minds had he managed the A's the last four years?

I don't follow the A's so I have no idea on that. All I see is despite having multiple major injuries and having to rush rookies into key spots he's been in the playoffs each of his first 4 years. How many other guys have done that? There's been plenty of others who have had as good or better rosters as the Cards who haven't done it.

Sure he makes questionable decisions. I certainly don't agree with all of them. But that's the nature of the beast. Every manager who doesn't win the WS can be questioned. I'm not thumping anyone's chest because I have zero to do with any of it. I like seeing the Cards competitive and being in the playoffs. That's happened every year of Mike's watch. Why he gets so much grief is just silly.
