POLL: Which sport takes longer to become proficient in?

Far less hit .300 than do. But I disagree with
you. Just because you hit .300 will not get you
on a MLB ball field. You might get a DH job or
second string job but I'd bet there are 20 to 1
or better batting .260 with excellent defensive
skills then there are .300 hitters in MLB baseball.
Giving up one error can be much much more
costly then the benefit of being able to slap a
single every third time up.

The 2014 Royals had one starter batting .300, Cain he batted .301. The Royals had a team fielding percentage of .983. Defense is everything in baseball especially in todays game where the balls dont jump out the stadium like 10 years ago. Only three Royals hit double digit homers, Gordon 19, Perez 17 and Moustakis 15 they won the American league with defense and pitching.

You're proving the opposite point of what you're trying to make. The reason those guys were in the lineup was because they have slightly above average bats with great defense

If you can hit the ball, you're going to be in the lineup. Offense is at an absolute premium. Everyone has pitching these days.

Sorry 21 I completely disagree with you as well. Even as young as Little League All Stars you put your 7 best fielders and your best stick in the game (you can hide him if his defense is poor). Of course pitcher isnt included in my count. You were a hell of a ball player 21 COME ON MAN. How were you on the mound when routine balls were misplayed? Piss you off? Affect your pitching? DEFENSE is by far the most important and keep in mind PITCHERS are DEFENSE. Id rather have a vacuum batting .200 then to have a great hitter with average fielding skills anywhere on the infield but may hide one in the outfield to get a BIG STICK in the lineup. The Big stick gives you one hit game winning abi;lity in a 0-0 game even if his average sucks. Hell if your DEFENSE sucks teams can beat you with a zero batting average because they beat you on your errors!!! My opinion of course dont know as fact but thats the way I lean.

I'm not arguing with you on the value of defense. Trust me, I was pissed with errors...and the guys knew it too. Affect my pitching, no. I had the mental game down to help counter my elbow issues I always had.

I'm speaking solely at the MLB level here though. If you can hit .300, you'll be in the lineup. Just look the Padres outfield for this upcoming season. No one will confuse them with the Royals in the outfield.

You HAVE to play defense if you have a weak bat. That is the ONLY reason Andelton Simmons is a starter at the MLB level (Braves). He is pathetic on offense, but he is crazy with his glove. Then you have guys who are polar opposites of Simmons....Edwin Encarnacion, Carlos Santana, Chris Carter,Matt Kemp,Ryan Howard. They are paid to hit, defense is just extra...if they get it

3peat I didn't say you get on an MLB roster by hitting .300. You better hit more than that in high school and college if you want a look. But if you do hit for a high average with some power they will come calling, THEN you better hit .300 in the minors to get called up and then you better keep doing it in the bigs if you wanna stay, unless you hit 30 HR's.

Come on man. Your .300 average is what my
whole convo is about. Not how in baseball offense
isn't important but your .300 number. Do you
even realize in 2014 only 16 players in all of MLB
batted .300 or better. Home runs are huge if you
can smash it you will get on a team but defense
sorry is the name of the game. Throw in the 90+
range to pitch and have a glove and wheels to play
the field and you can sign anywhere.

GOLF.. Amen to that. Most frustrating game in
the world till the 18th. Then you birdie and can't
wait to play again, lol.
