Enjoyed the Class 2 and 3 quarterfinal games at Lee's Summit HS this past weekend. Good games and great efforts by all of the teams.

But I did not like the site of the games. The past few years, I greatly enjoyed attending these games at the Independence Events Center. I have told dozens of people what a great venue it is for HS playoff games- great location, parking, ease of access, great sight lines, seat-back chairs with cup holders, no waiting at the concessions or bathrooms. There is likely no more ideal place to hold games of this magnitude.

None of these amenities are applicable to the new site. I am in no way criticizing LSHS as a nice venue for regular season games. But for the quarterfinals, it was nothing like the Events Center. Not enough seating, old wooden bleachers, 2 people working the concessions (they were hustling, though!), very inadequate restroom facilities. Teams had to wait to begin pre-game warm-ups because there were people all over the court from the previous game. The movement of people in/out of the facility in between games was a mess. I understand that the decision on sites is probably mostly financial, but I hope no quarterfinal games are hosted there in the future. There are many, many better facilities in the general KC/NW MO vicinity- assuming, of course, that any other venues turned in proposals to host.

at Mexico, Tolton and Bowling Green came out at half time.......no warm-up balls........they did bring them out as the buzzer sounded to start the second half. Neither team warmed-up for the second half.

Not having balls isn't a MSHSAA thing. That falls on the host school. Maybe someone grabbed them after warm-ups and forgot to bring them back. I am sure it was an honest mistake. I have run 25+ basketball playoff games over the past 10 years. While balls are important, forgetting balls is something simple that can go wrong with all of the things that you have going on with 2000+ people in your building.

If you're gonna host it you better have balls.

I almost did this one time. At Farmington the balls were just sitting out and someone had swiped 2 balls. I took them back to the officials room and forgot to bring them back out. So it can happen.

I would assume with Events Center being booked for the NAIA women's tournament coming up, it pushed too many Mavericks and Comets games into the dates needed for MSHSAA games.

I agree it would be nice to have the playoff games in the big arenas. That's the biggest drawback to going to the 5 classes. It eliminated a lot of the bigger facilities that were staples of the playoffs.

I heard that the IEC jacked their prices WAY up on MSHSAA, and they had to say no!
