Playoff Fix

All you guys going on and on about potential injuries..
gimme a break. ITS FOOTBALL.
EVERY play has the potential to leave someone injured, that's the risk going into every down of every game all year long. If the 1 seeds are so worried about getting hurt against the 8 seeds, then have them play their 2nd string that game(who should still be able to win) and quit whining. This afraid of injury BS is why there are so many rules and restrictions on football nowadays. Sooner or later it's gonna be the state flag football championships.
Good lord.
Chill. My post was about an actual injury. Show a little compassion. Good lord.
.

Oh I do have compassion. Just not enough change the entire district playoff system based off of one injury that may or may have happened regardless.

Nobody is changing the entire playoff system just a minor tweek to make a more competitive game for two teams that struggled all year. The potential for injury every single play is exactly my point. Have a buy week so you are risking injury in a meaningful game against a quality opponent instead of someone you would last buy 100 if you didn't bring the jv in.

I am fine with the current system. Since there is no perfect way of seeding I do not think we can leave teams out by just taking the top four teams into the playoff bracket and letting the bottom four play each other in a week 10 finale. The computer rankings is a tool to seed them but the teams decide things in the field, and that is what competition is all about. In district 5 West Plains and Bolivar proved on the field they deserved to advance but many of you would of had them playing in a consolation bracket instead.
I am sorry the kind from MCHS was injured, I hate to see any kid get hurt. That being said he had just as high of injury risk playing Marshfield in a 7-8 or Bolivar in a 5-8 game.
Bottom line... as a fan of a pretty competitive team every year week 10 is not so fun, I get it. It's one week. Learn to navigate it and make a positive from it and move on.

The new system is a LOT better. I was a player in the old system. Senior year we went 9-1, losing for the only time in Week 9 (districts) to the other state ranked team in our district by 1 touchdown. What did we get for our efforts? A spot on the couch in the playoffs.

Week 10 was meaningless as the other 2 teams in the districts were bad.

When a #6 team beats a #3 team that does not mean the seeding was wrong. It is ONE game out of many. To determine if the seeding has been effective, you have to compile the statistics of all games and see who has been winning the most.

That doesn't mean teams that are 5-6 seeds should be excluded. The point of this game is that any given night, anything can happen.
But the way everybody is making it sound is: "well this teams better than that one so why should they even play?"

That's kind of the point isn't it, to try to beat the best teams.

Districts in 2002 for West Plains:

Team/Record
West Plains (3-4)
Ozark (7-0) #8 in 4A
Nixa (6-1)
Branson (6-1)

West Plains over Branson 46-7
West Plains over Ozark(8-0) by a score of 24-22
West Plains then loses to Nixa 28-21 in the district championship game.

West Plains was supposed to lose every game in districts that year according to the media. And they didn't.

In 2003, the same thing happened. Went 3-4 in the Ozark Conference and then took down Branson and state ranked Ozark again. Then lost to Nixa 35-21 in the district championship.

The playoffs don't need fixed. Your outlook on football needs fixed.

I think this system is great for Missouri playoffs. How the points are scored could use a few tweaks but just look at Class 4 District 4 for an example. Rolla, one of the weakest team in the Ozarks matched with St. Louis area schools, a 6 seed only because of two other winless teams in the district. Beats 2 seeded Union handily 35-14 and will play for a district championship. Some of you would've left Rolla at home. There is no way to truly gauge teams against each other that come from different areas or play entirely different schedules other than typically West side is better than the East side. Having everyone included is perfect for a system without a way to rank teams that have minimal comparisons to each other. If you win, you deserve to be in the next round. Plain and simple.
