Platte County @ Kearney....who ya got?

I've heard of fans and coaches speaking with lofty principles and cliches, but more often the cold reality is if you lose, you lose more (and how you lose matters as you pointed out in the Staley loss, injuries). Winning and losing depends on how you define it. I point to last year, after the Staley KO turbo, K was unable to cash in on their window dressing, losing to a lesser team in the MEC. A football season is in many ways the Matthew principle. This is why Raytown loses and Kearney typically beats PC. Yet, beating PC doesn't guarantee a State Title birth. Its status quo, and losing this game to PC will be devastating to postseason success. No doubt K is the better team.
Last year I knew, especially once I got my current position and went back to day shift, once I got to see the Dogs in person there was not going to be a third consecutive state title game run. The cornerstone of this program is DEFENSE. For the first time in three years (D cost them the 2016 title) they have a very fast, physical one and that is why I am much more optimistic than in recent years. If we are going to talk bigger picture (a bit early just yet but here goes) the QB play needs to get better/more consistent. Solve that issue (Ah Mu 2018 reminds me a bit of Hartzler 2009) and the sky's the limit. You do make another good point (seems more obvious than it really is) about winning/losing the biggest games. Top programs stay on top because they not only know how to win the big ones but thrive on pressure and EXPECT to win. The upstart programs have to get over that hump and it is HARD to achieve.

And something may not be right in their fan base support. I was at the Kearney v Belton at BELTON last year. I counted - outside of the student section, less than 200 attendees. Less than 200 at a conference home game?

I asked in this forum if this was typical for Belton home crowd---crickets.
Sadly is typical for home games in Belton. They’re city does not support their football team. Believe it or not, 200 is a lot better than what it was 2008-2014 when they couldn’t win a game.... But either way they don’t support at all, they don’t travel, etc. Biggest show of a crowd for Belton is always against neighbor-town rival RayPec....

That is a shame. I met Coach Vaughn and his wife by coincidence. Both quality / very nice people. Talked passionately about their love of football, working with kids and their connection to Belton.

Return the respect Belton community!

Got a good chance to showcase Belton FB tomorrow night. Fort travels as well as anyone in the KC metro so that should be a great atmosphere. If you go to the game want your thoughts about Fort QB Ty Baker if you don't mind, southkc.
Will get back to you on that after tomorrow night!
