2010 has been a special season for the Boonville Pirates who are off to a 4-0 start and are currently the No. 2 ranked team in the MOsports.com Class 3 Power Poll.
On Friday the Pirates earned an impressive 41-14 North Central Missouri Conference victory over Kirksville in front a large Homecoming crowd with senior tailback Kellen Kempf leading the way with a record breaking effort.
An all-conference performer as a junior, Kempf has taken his game to another level in his final season. Just four weeks into the season Kemp is closing in on 1,000 yards and has scored 11 Pirate touchdowns.
Kempf(5-10 182), the MOsports.com Class 3 Athlete of the Week carried the ball 22 times, gaining a school record 345-yards, and scored 4 touchdowns in the victory. Also a free safety on the Pirate defense, Boonville head coach Brad Parsons had high praise for his senior.
“Kellen had a great game. He used his speed and vision to break some long runs, and help us defeat Kirksville. Kellen is an important part of our team. He, along with his teammates, has allowed our team to be successful so far this season.”
“Our offense has done an excellent job blocking for Kellen”, added Parsons. “Offensive lineman James Dowling, Daniel Kempf, Tim Derindinger, Ty Green, and Keith Poindexter have opened up holes in both our zone and gap schemes. Full back Gavin Hall, tight end Devon Verslues, and Wide receivers Devon Hohensee, Jeremy Davis, Grant Davis, and Latavius Shelby have also done a great job providing lanes for Kellen to attack.”
Kempf and his Pirate teammates enter an important stretch of their conference season as they face Mexico, Hannibal, and Moberly in the coming weeks.
