Petrino and Odom to UNLV

Lots of great places in Vegas to ride his motorcycle, not as many curves or deer to watch out for. Seriously, at the end of the day Bobby is loyal to one person - Himself. Missouri State was one of the few places that was desperate enough to give him an opportunity.
Wonder if he let his players and coaches know by leaving letters in their lockers.

No complaints from us Bear fans over Bobby. He won and moved on. Program is in the best shape in decades. Job is a lot more attractive now than it was when he was hired.

Ryan Beard is more than likely getting the job.

He won? He went to the playoffs in a covid spring, then was one and done last year and back to sub 500 this year?
As an alumni, I am disappointed in the morals side of Petrino and the program for bringing him in. Sorry but Coach Ball and Coach Allen were great coaches as well and their pre and post MSU work show that its a university issue, not an issue with the coaches.

Yes he won. Two playoff appearances is more than losers like Ball and Allen could do. Ball only won at Western Illinois because you were accepted into the school there if you could breathe on glass and it fogged up. Allen was a loser at KU and showed he was just a product of UNI not the other way around. Petrino had no major legal problems with his players. Petrino treated the media and community with respect. Petrinio won football games and the program had nothing but positives for the most part. This season they had too many injuries in the trenches that derailed them but his 5-6 season would have been really good for Ball and Allen. I'm sorry you are butt hurt over what happened at Arkansas but Petrinio's time in Springfield was positive. And Coach Beard will continue to build on that.

Averaged 6 wins a year over a 3 year period. Pretty sure that hasn’t been done in almost 30 years at MSU. Last time was the early to mid 90s that they averaged 6 wins a year.

You can hate on it all you want, but the results were there.
First Missouri State coach to win more than he lost since Branch who went 55-44-1 from 1986-1994.

Lost by single digits to 2 different power 5 programs that were either ranked at the time or ranked at seasons end. One of which was top 10 at seasons end.

I’m not saying that he’s a messiah or a good human being, but you can’t argue against the results.

As far as X’s and O’s And wins & losses, he won more games in his first 3 years as a coach here than anyone in a long time.

Wins in First 3 years as HC:

Petrino: 18 wins
Steckel: 8 wins
Allen: 12 wins
Ball: 16 wins
Miller: 16 wins
Branch: 13 wins

Those are all the other head coaches first 3 years since MSU went D1

The last coach to win more than Petrino in his first 3 years was Johanningmeier when they were D2 and he still barely surpasses Petrino with 19 wins in his first 3 years against a Division 2 schedule.

He got out while the getting was good. I think Bobby found out how difficult it was to win at MSU this year. Another year like this and he might not have been as hot commodity as he is right now.

We all knew it was going to end this way the only surprise is it took three years and it didn’t happen at halftime of a game in the middle of the season.

He has a long history of being a really good coach. And being a guy loyal to nothing.

This morality thing and MO sports fans is super cute. Hire Steck again and enjoy those 1 and 2 win seasons.

Barry Odom in Vegas is about like having a chandelier in an outhouse. Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. That’s a strange fit. At least he was smart enough to hire an OC with a name that can get some players. Just hard for me to picture Odom with the glitz and glamour that is Vegas.
It's hard to imagine Odom successfully recruiting in SoCal...

Seems like UNLV could be a diamond in the rough. Particularly now with the NIL money, obviously there is a lot of deep pocket folks in Vegas, could sway more recruits your way. Not being in a top tier conf would be a tough fight to battle. Petrino is a great hire.

Like someone said, he found out how hard it is to win at Missouri State and is getting out. Im not worried about Arkansas- shows who he is, Im more worried about him leaving Atlanta without having the guts to tell anyone face to face he was leaving.

I feel like they have been saying UNLV is a diamond in the rough for most of my adult life. It is probably hard for students to stay focused in a town like Vegas.

I liked Steck when he was first hired, BUT the first time he spoke to the southwest Missouri coaches he acted like he didnt want to give anyone the time of day.
I thought he was a good hire as well until he spoke at an alumni event in Joplin and he seemed like a robotic drill sergeant. I felt like I needed to salute him from the audience when he was done. It was weird.

The dude sucked. Like most of the other coaches at MO St. Petrino came in and won a heckuva lot more than others in recent history. Why anyone would have a problem with him bettering himself and leaving MO St a whole lot better than he found it is beyond me. He was a good hire and did a good job. People actually were aware the Bears had a football team and they weren't a punchline to a joke. Would think most would see the positives in that.

Someone must have gotten to ride on the back of Bobby’s bike and is still giving him a reach around……
