So it's ok to depict cops as "pigs" in a painting? Should this REALLY be hanging there?

I saw the story the other day, I don't think it is okay, its like saying there is only one party at fault in the issue.

Not that I believe all cops are in the right all the time, but we all have to take responsibility for or part to live in harmony with our fellow man.

I have worked very hard to not read a single news story about this topic, I really could not care less about whatever this silly dispute is

Freedom of speech means things may be allowed that others don't like.yet you have to deal with it.

Could they get away with hanging a picture of a cop getting shot at by a car full of monkeys? Do you think that picture would stay there?
It would not be a good look just as the one you are talking about is not. Now that the precedent has been set I guess it would be ok. Truth be told there is no way what you described would be allowed but that's the world we live in.

But that also does not mean you have to agree with them burning the flag or that you have to hang a picture of that flag burning in a political office.
Never said I agree with it, but freedom is freedom and you don't get to say what someone can and can't do.

Don't use political correctness as a cop out for your internal racist and misogynistic views. The painting is pigs who lived together in mutual respect and in harmony with their environment. Using materials that were indigenous to the area they each built a beautiful house. One pig built a house of straw, one a house of sticks, and one a house of dung, clay and creeper vines shaped into bricks and baked in a small kiln. When they were finished, the pigs were satisfied with their work and settled back to live in peace and self-determination.

So is any painting meant to incite hate and violence allowed?

Seriously, our elected leaders are displaying controversial paintings at the Capitol?

Paintings that depict our law enforcement in a bad light?

What political party would do such a thing? Does one of our political parties disrespect the law?

Are you telling me that these lawmakers are against the very people who are between them and chaos?

I just cannot imagine, which party is disrespecting law and order, and which party supports law and order?

Would it be preferable if it depicted monkeys and pigs shooting at each other?

Not at all, there is no reason to depict anyone as pigs or monkeys. There is also no reason to inflame tensions between our law enforcement and the public.

Now that I have answered your question, what about mine?

My question was wholly rhetorical.

The entire thing is ridiculous, was it intended to be inflammatory? Duh. Of course it was, it was also supposed to depict the artist's viewpoint and thoughts about life according to his experience.

Could it be considered in bad taste, absolutely, but if that is how the artist chooses to express himself, and it is obviously an opinion shared by others, then who cares? Art is meant to evoke a response, this young artist did what he was asked to do.

Well, atleast you answered honestly!

According to the rules of the art contest it should not have been there in the first place. Doesn't have anything to do with freedom of speech.
