Ozark Mountain Conference

Would like to see them add in Nevada and Mac County.

Toss in Hillcrest and Monett and make it a true Ozark Mountain Class 4 10-team conference, great for football.

I assume:

Bolivar
Marshfield
Rogersville
Branson
West Plains
CJ
That is some serious windshield time for the CJ folks. Are things so bad being in the COC that 6 hr roundtrip road games to West Plains is a better option? There has to be other, more local names, to drop in this scenario for it to make sense.

Well it will be once every 2 years for each sport.

Football isn't so much the issue as the other sports. I could see a sport like tennis playing conference games in Springfield a few times a season.

I am not sure why WP and Bolivar want to do this. The OC seems like a good set up to me.

Ironically this was the name of the conference that was going to form with the merger of the Ozark Highlands and Mid-Lakes Conference.

The 2 smallest schools in the OC now in a conference that everyone is similar across the board in all-sports with no SPS interference.
Bingo.
And Rogersville and Marshfield are shorter trips than Waynesville and Camdenton.
Depending on the route they take, there’s a shorter way to branson too.

So between the OC and the COC Hillcrest will be the only class 4 school?

If there is an odd duck in this new league, it is more CJ than WP. The Zizzers have always been on an isolated island away from similar size schools in recent decades, yet Carl has no one regionally in this league as well. Could this be a quiet attempt to take a footstep back towards the Big 8 and maybe jump into a return some years later when memories have faded even more?

Why? This is what CJ has always wanted. A class 4 football league. They would have done this in 2016 if it were available.

That may be. Still just seems geographically unfriendly, but if they feel that league will give them greater chances at success, and the drives don't bother them, then go for it. I'm not sure I'm thrilled with the OC/COC agreement. Almost like to see some of the COC schools get other nonconference foes, like Webb did prior with Rock and Har-Ber. Yet I'm not an AD having to find those games either.

I agree. I think Nixa and Webb may want to play out of the area teams.

West Plains, Bolivar, Marshfield and LogRog have been in the same district for what seems like forever now. And CJ has been in that district most years as well. So I see this working out quite well. Just seems like odd timing with WP potentially going to Class 5 at anytime.

I could see WP and Poplar Bluff filling an empty slot on each others schedule in the future.
And wouldn’t be shocked to see Ava on there. They’re the 2nd largest school in the SCA, they’re Class 3 and I would say they’ve been the most consistent in the SCA for the last 5-6 years. But who knows.
That’s a lot of blanks to fill in a schedule for WP. ADs gonna have to go find football games for the first time since 2001

And good luck convincing anyone to play WP girls in basketball.
They’ll find games but it’ll be more difficult to fill out that schedule.

Mountain Home is looking for games. Not sure how far that is. Big 8 schools will need a game.

Mtn Home is less than an hour, and Wyatt was Arys assistant for a decade so I’m sure that won’t be a problem at all.

West Plains used to play Mountain Home in middle school basketball for sure. Maybe even football.

Blair Oaks just schedule Blue Valley Southwest today out of Overland Park KS. If they would of waited a couple of days they probably would of gladly helped with filling one of the open schedule openings. I don't think they would have cared who it is either. Class 5, Class 6, it don't matter.

This article says Webb, Carthage and CJ all joined the COC at the same time?
That isn't acurrate. WC, Carthage, and Neosho joined together. I can't remember exactly when but I am thinking the mid 00s. It's been awhile.

I know but I can't believe a newspaper printed it.

Just think before LePage era began - Blair Oaks would have been a perfect fit for the new league in Central Missouri. Still crazy how much Blair Oaks program has came in 20 years when their non-conference is now suburban high schools from the cities.

It's shame that Salem's program is in the toilet or that would be a natural one for West Plains to schedule. Used to be a big time rivalry in the SCA. Got to think West Plains and Poplar Bluff will be an annual game soon.
