SIKESTON — Sikeston is again looking for a head football coach.
According to a release from the Sikeston R-6 School District, Kyle Wagner, who was hired in February, has rescinded his contract as the head football coach for the 2021-22 school year.
“Even though we hire a new staff member and put them under contract, they have the option to rescind their contract before May 15,” said Connie Dement, Sikeston R-6 human resources director. “And today Mr. Wagner chose to do this.”
The release stated the district has no immediate decision on how they plan to move forward. Sikeston Superintendent Dr. Tony Robinson, will speak to the Board of Education to review options as soon as possible.
“While it is unprecedented and unfortunate, we have proven as a district and as a community that Sikeston is resilient,” Robinson said. “We remain steadfast in our goal to provide the best staff for our students.”
Wagner served as head coach of Ritenour this spring and led the Huskies to a 1-3 record.

We've all heard of coach speak....but this seems like the standard "left at the alter" administrator talk. Dr. Robinson using big impactful words "resilient" and "steadfast". While I am just a simple farmer, who used to coach defense, I am impressed.

Wow, right before the May 15 deadline. Might sound harsh, but that is really shady of LN to hire a coach, knowing that that is screwing another school out of a coach. I get it look out for yourself, do what you have to do, but shady in my book.

Kind of what Sikeston did but without the deadline. He was coaching at Ritenour during the spring season when he was hired.

That's what he did.
I assumed so, I was taking the above post as Sikeston stole someone’s coach during the season. Obviously him coaching during the spring was an anomaly for this year only.

And fwiw, this has nothing to do w me, not do I have anything invested in it. Just a difference of opinion. Everyone has to do what is best for them. Kind of like you have a prom date, and a prettier girl asks you to go. Do you keep your word to the first one or move on to the second? To each their own!

Just a little weird on all fronts. Ritenour to Sikeston to LN all in the same year.

Probably would’ve stayed at Ritenour, Class 5 school. But once they announced they would not have a spring he went to Sikeston.
Anyone who is from a Big City and has to move to any depressing dated part of the 417 is gonna be rushing to return to 314 or 816. Cant blame coach honestly. Good Hire for North.

Depressing? Anywhere there's a Lambert's isn't depressing for long.

You didn’t just coach defense. You were the HEAD defensive coach. Don’t sell yourself short.

Coach Wagner was presented an opportunity to return to a school he has coached at previously, but this time as head coach. Pretty sure many coaches would do the same.

Yeah...I remember when Sikeston announced the hire...just seemed odd all the way around. Never had the look of a great fit. And it's certainly odd getting hired and never coaching a game...BUT...I would be it's going to end up being a good thing for all parties. That's the important thing.
