SIKESTON — Sikeston is again looking for a head football coach.
According to a release from the Sikeston R-6 School District, Kyle Wagner, who was hired in February, has rescinded his contract as the head football coach for the 2021-22 school year.
“Even though we hire a new staff member and put them under contract, they have the option to rescind their contract before May 15,” said Connie Dement, Sikeston R-6 human resources director. “And today Mr. Wagner chose to do this.”
The release stated the district has no immediate decision on how they plan to move forward. Sikeston Superintendent Dr. Tony Robinson, will speak to the Board of Education to review options as soon as possible.
“While it is unprecedented and unfortunate, we have proven as a district and as a community that Sikeston is resilient,” Robinson said. “We remain steadfast in our goal to provide the best staff for our students.”
Wagner served as head coach of Ritenour this spring and led the Huskies to a 1-3 record.
