The Emmy-award winning classic about high school football. This PBS documentary follows the ups and downs, the wins and losses of the 1991 Jefferson City Jays for an entire season. It leads to one final field goal attempt on the last play of the game of the last game of the season. At stake -- the Missouri State Championship.

It was a nice look into some of the history of JC football.
They've never been the same since Adkins. It was nice to see some good ole smash mouth option football. There's not too many teams that succeed who do that anymore.
Other than Webb... Maybe Lamar? I've never seen them play, but I will this year @ Valle. You see it more in small schools than anywhere nowadays.

Back in those days, if Jeff City, Rockhurst or Hazelwood Central were in town, you were in for it. Lots of D1 and D2 players going both ways on those teams.

Ok. So i watched the documentary. Brought back a ton of memories from my HS playing days, the neck roles and high top shoes and the camaraderie in the locker room. I got pretty emotional. It would have been cool to hear about one of their corners stories. I did hear something about a 5-8 165 kid not being able to play much past HS... some of us made it to College ball at that size.

It was very well done. Pete Adkins is awesome.

Did you listen to my speech this time!?!?

Ah, Coach Pete Adkins. I didn't have a whole lot of contact with him, but what I did have was memorable, educational, and enjoyable. He was always willing to allow a young, eager coach to pick his brain at clinics or on the telephone. He gave our staff permission to come to Jeff City for a week at their camp to see how they do things. Some of you old timer coaches on here probably have as many stories about him at coaching clinics. In fact, I'm sitting here chuckling whilst recalling.
One of a kind...hated to see him retire, however well earned; then again, we were class 4 and didn't have to worry about them, either!
When did Ron Cole get out? I know he won a state title in 1997 and got runner-up in 1998 at Jeff City after Adkins retired. It's amazing how quickly they lost that aura they had with Adkins

Coach Cole took over for Coach Adkins when he retired after the 1994 season. Cole retired as head coach after 2001 season. In 2011, Coach Ted LePage talked him out of retirement. He came back into coaching as the Jays defensive coordinator. He retired for good after the 2015 season.
