How do you justify running Wong out there everyday? The guy is trying to give this game away all by himself.Edmunds making excuses for Wong who runs into a sure out!!!!!!! uhggggggggg
Piscotty? Garcia? Diaz? Grichuck? All with BONEHEAD plays/decisions. But Wong really stole the show last night. Problem is, he's the best option. I still think he's the least of the problems when talking about the IF. Garcia isn't the answer. Hell, ANYTHING but that ground ball DP helps. That was a huge AB and he just 12 hops one into a 4-6-3.How do you justify running Wong out there everyday? The guy is trying to give this game away all by himself.
A shortstop with the range of an elephant, a guy who looks like a hog on ice when a throw is not right on target at 1st, and a 2b that just is infuriating are all players that did these same things last year, but MO did nothing to correct. This falls on MO not MM.Piscotty? Garcia? Diaz? Grichuck? All with BONEHEAD plays/decisions. But Wong really stole the show last night. Problem is, he's the best option. Baller go back and look at the replay. The stop sign was up before Wrong got to the base, but I agree with most of what you say. We are sooooo bad at so many things we forget about the thing I have been harping on for over a year now. RISPMaloney shares blame for Wong's base running last night. He had the windmill going right before Wong got to 3B. Then threw up the stop sign after he rounded the bag. Wong hit the brakes hard and slipped. I guess we could blame him for slipping but Maloney put him in a bad spot. It stunk because Wong had gotten a great jump and was really motoring planning to score. Effort wasn't an issue.
The E was what's so frustrating about him. He had been stellar the last several days. He can make the hard plays look easy. He made 2 or 3 when I was there on Sun that where highlight type. But he always seems to boot an easy one at the wrong time.
And I'll continue to say Carp is not a 1B. Heck, he's not good with a glove anywhere. The guy just isn't smooth. He makes everything look hard and seldom helps on a bad throw. Since on the job training is the thing I might tell Jed to grab a 1B mitt and take some throws. He seems to have a better glove than Carp. He can pick the ones he gets to. I'd rather have an E at 3B once in a while and have a 1B who can help everyone out.
And I'll ask you the same thing I ask Duck...What would you like him to do? Duck has pissed and moaned about no banger in the middle, but offers zero options of one the Birds could've had. If these things grew on trees, I'm sure MO would pick them. That's my point, he continually puts together a roster that can compete. The things that MM can control, most notably baserunning and defense, are awful. Odd that all of this dropped off with the disappearance of Oquendo. Can MM not find a way to duplicate that?A shortstop with the range of an elephant, a guy who looks like a hog on ice when a throw is not right on target at 1st, and a 2b that just is infuriating are all players that did these same things last year, but MO did nothing to correct. Maybe I saw it wrong. But if it was it went up when Wong was almost at the bag and looking down to find it. It wasn't in time for him to pull up before he rounded the base. It was a tough spot. The whole issue was he slipped and fell. If that doesn't happen we're probably not talking about it today.Baller go back and look at the replay. Agree. With better fundamental play this is a competitive roster. Fundamentals were Jose's specialty. For whatever reason they can't seem to replace his presence. And I'll ask you the same thing I ask Duck...What would you like him to do? To answer your question and I don't like to look stuff up as you well know, but when Nelson Cruz signed with the Mariners I was screaming as loud as I could that the Birds didn't even consider him. He signed a very team friendly contract. What more can MM do but organize drills and preach to the players. Ultimately the players have to execute. Is it MM's fault that Yadi doesn't move as well on pass balls and wild pitches, is it MM's fault that Carp has turned into an American league player. If Oquendo is the problem then the Coach who took his place should be fired and pay Oquendo whatever it takes to come back. I'm much less a MM fan than I was 2 years ago, but these problems will not go away by firing him if you still have the same players, unless the players are quitting on him, which could be the case. Maybe when Yeo is done with hockey they can bring him inAnd I'll ask you the same thing I ask Duck...What would you like him to do? It's hard to change all the players. That's why the manager/coach is usually who goes. A different message from the manager and coaches might turn things around. It certainly did for the Blues. But I have my doubts that MM is anywhere close to the chopping block. Ownership and Mo seem to like him a lot. Barring a total collapse I don't see much changing for awhile. We'll just have to hope they have more stretches like last week than this week.To answer your question and I don't like to look stuff up as you well know, but when Nelson Cruz signed with the Mariners I was screaming as loud as I could that the Birds didn't even consider him.
