we all know how Clintons big deal with North Korea ended up working out

I wish I lived in the dream world you do where we can make countries do whatever we want.

If a country wants a nuke, they are going to get it.

We need to just turn Irans electricity off for about a year and let the Iranian people decide if they want electric lights, gas pumps, water and air conditioning, elevators, street lights ect, or to live in the dark ages forever. Cruise missiles fired from sea is all it takes to knock out substations that distribute power.

It wouldnt take long for the people living in Tehran to decide they dont want nuclear gizmos after all

We need a President who owns a pair bigger than his wifes

Yes, the US should definitely wage war on the civilian population of a sovereign state, that works really well at making them do what we want instead of doing the exact opposite of what we want just to spite us.

Once again, get out of the dream world. Doing what you suggest would be an accelerant to their nuclear program. Further, it would likely be the most damaging thing we have ever done to relations with our key allies and economic trading partners, and it would make getting a bomb extraordinarily important to the Iranian leadership and population.

This is the problem with the other supposed solutions - unless you invade and occupy Iran, there is no way to stop it from getting a bomb.

I'm sure you can enlist, Steve, if you are so anxious to go to war.
Thank you Bogey. I think everybody who thinks war or votes for war should be forced to send a son, daughter, husband, wife , or grandchild to that per say war that would teach the bad guys a lesson. No deferments allowed. Then it would be interesting to see how many would be so bullish on sending troops to the killing fields.

Many Conservatives like myself already have family members in the military.

To say that "we" need to have our own love ones sign up is somewhat disrespectful .

It appears that Democrat Service Personnel are the only folks you guys respect or support.

To have an anti-war position is one thing...
To not support "all" of the troops is quite another...

I do respect McCain and Graham more because they served. I think they understand the choices they are making. I may disagree with them but I don't doubt their commitment to making personal sacrifices. McCain's son served overseas in the war on terror.

It's extremely difficult for me to take the Bush neocon clan seriously when a significant percentage of them tried as hard as possible to stay away from wars.

A lot of the current warmongers are the same way.

I can live with that .

That boiled down means having loved ones participating doesn't mean a different view on whether conflict is warranted though. While it is reasonable to respect those involved over those who aren't, it doesn't make the point made by both different.

So you are perfectly ok with Iran having a nuclear weapon ?? They support terrorist groups with no apology and call for the destruction of both the United States and Israel.

People think 9-11 was terrible just wait until a major city vanishes in a flash because we didn't stand up and fight them now

Every soldier wearing the uniform is a volunteer nobody is sending anyone's son snywhere he didn't sign up to go to

You clearly have a firm grasp on what's actually going on.

Yes, it is actually a very good point. If you wouldn't send your own son because you think it isn't worth their life, you shouldn't send someone else's son. I would have been able to sleep at night sending my son to WWII or to the Civil War. I would have been able to sleep at night about Afghanistan. I would be able to sleep at night after the Bin Laden raid.

I don't know how Bush and his team can sleep at night after Iraq.

Your kids don't have to join up, but a politician should be able to step back and honestly assess that question.

By that logic we should be ok sending them all to die tomorrow for anything, after all, they are volunteers, right?

The fact that someone volunteers does not mean you treat them callously. It means you respectfully evaluate if their sacrifices are necessary for the United States.

An honest assessment of Iran is that the level of sacrifice it would take to prevent them from having a bomb that they wouldn't use against us isn't worth it. It would require total destruction of the regime and a long-term occupation.

No where did I say I didn't respect our troops. We have a volunteer army, but I guarantee if we went back to the draft those who are Hawks would change their attitudes. I would never want a son or daughter of mine fighting in the civil wars that are going on in the Middle East. Until the people in those countries are willing to fight why should we. I have no relation to the drones so let them do our fighting. You can't tell the good guys from the bad and it changes day to day that is not a fight I want our people fighting especially when it's over oil

One of the most pro-military things you can do is not send troops where they don't belong. We sent the military to nation build in Iraq - a task for which they were not well suited. Look how that turned out.
