Been a couple months since our last Class 1 NW Missouri post...

One week to district and things haven't changed much...perhaps a little more HOPE for
the challengers.

Stanberry- lost close games to N. Andrew and Braymer…still
the favorite…but maybe not invincible.
(don't try to win a "dunk off" with them)

N. Andrew- got good depth, beat Stanberry, losses to Mound City and Jefferson

Mound City- good record and tournament showings…haven't
gotten to see them in person.

Braymer-big win over Stanberry on Braymer's floor, 2 losses
to Hardin and a recent loss to Princeton

Hardin-Central-talented, recent double digit loss to Winston
and Class 2 Wellington Napoleon

Winston- loss to Osborn left questions, playing well lately with nice wins over Princeton, Mercer, Hardin

Jefferson- been close at times, WHEN are the Eagles not
ready to play by district? Sleeper.

Back in December I mentioned West Nodaway…..could probably replace them with Norborne boys...they have had a

solid season.
Braymer, Hardin-Central, Norborne boys could produce an exciting district 13.
There a pack of balanced teams chasing Winston in District 14
Picking the one vs two seeds in District 15 and 16....I know, not going out on a limb there.
Jefferson/Stanberry and Mound City/North Andrew

Stuart Johnson wins the freethrow shoot-off with Chris Ward, Preston Cole and Tom Johnson.

This should be fun to watch. Stanberry is my favorite, but don't sleep on an upset by Mound City. But Braymer, Hardin Central and Winston will be fun to watch. But I have Stanberry advancing to the final 4.

Agreed that is will be fun...I am waiting on NWbearcat43 and BRAYC to weigh in. Not many Class 1 posts about NW MO this year. Meadville going east took AgMan and Young Country away from us. (ha).

Who will Mid-Buch have to beat to get Coach Kemper to Columbia?

It's the best time of the year, isn't it? Very excited to see how it all plays out.

Got a good kick out of the dunk comment, lol. Can't give any excuses for the losses, but definitely would like to have them both back. Against Braymer, had the ball up 1 with 40 seconds left and missed the front end of a 1-and-1 to set up their game winner. Shot 25% from the field in the loss to NA -- you're not going to win many ball games doing that. I wasn't as disappointed in that loss (got a chance to beat them by 17 two weeks later) as I was that they didn't get the opportunity to play Mound City in the Championship. Would've liked to see how they stacked up with them.

They've been playing pretty well lately. Hoping they can carry that into this week against Gallatin and grab a share of the GRC and get a little extra boost going into districts.

Both in C1D16 and have split 2 games this year. MC won the neutral game, NA won the game at MC. MC got some good game experience from the N. Platte tourney by getting to play against West Platte and Mid Buch. However, just looking at both team's recent scores, I don't know if you can say one team is playing better than the other right now. Wouldn't be surprised to see either team win the district.

They're the only team you mentioned that I haven't gotten to see play. They have put together a pretty good season. Those wins you mentioned are all nice wins, except I would note that Mercer was playing without their best player when Winston played them the most recent time. Don't really know how you judge the Osborn game. They'll have to play them again in the C1D14 Championship, assuming there are no upsets.

Kind of an interesting district, isn't it? Norborne beat Hardin, Hardin beat Braymer, Braymer beat Norborne, right? Is the district being played at Norborne an x factor? I guess I wouldn't be too surprised to see any of them win it, but I'm really just as unfamiliar with those teams as I am the ones in D14.

1- Stanberry/Braymer finish...outstanding isolation OB play at the end...you ran it in the mid 2nd quarter also.
Stanberry fans would say CL got his arms raked...Bryamer would say all ball.

2- the Braymer, Hardin, Norborne mess....we always call that a "love triangle"

3-Mercer....yep, missing one... I hope Mercer's CH gets better....good grief that family can shoot.

4-Where does Stanberry's AM get his ups? I don't think his dad (DM) had a 12 inch vertical. (lol).

5-Gallatin played Stanberry a very good game last year....I felt it was a "coming out" party for
Gallatin's JB....he was tough. I imagine Princeton and Braymer will be Gallatin fans that night.

6- Jermain and Burch (Batman/Robin) will have their Eagles working out on the punching bag to try and get more
physical for the rematch. I can hear the cry...."3rd time is the charm".

good hearing from you NWBC43.

My picks out of the Northwest:

District 13 - Braymer
A very competitive district and difficult pick here fella's. I wont be surprised if Hardin or Norborne advance.

District 14 - Winston
Once again, I won't be surprised if Osborn wins it either.

District 15 - Stanberry
It would be an upset if anyone knocked them off in this district.

District 16 - North Andrew
Just a hunch that the #2 seed pulls off the upset. But Mound City is very able to win it too.

Future prediction:

Braymer over Winston
Stanberry over North Andrew

Stanberry over Braymer

GOOD LUCK TO ALL TEAMS!

Liked the play call, figured that was the one that was coming. However, you've gotta win that one at the FT line and not put yourself in that position.

That's for sure. I heard severe ankle sprain with torn ligaments. They hoped he would be ready for districts.

Now that is funny, lol. Guess it comes from his mom's side! Can't believe how long and athletic he's become over the last year. He's a lot of fun to watch.

I don't expect it to be any different this year. Glad we get it at home. He certainly surprised me last year, especially since all anyone ever talked about was CC. Princeton gets their shot at Gallatin tomorrow night, so they'll have to win that one to stay in the hunt.

Yeah, you can't really ever count Jefferson out, can you? Hoping it looks more like the 2nd time we played them than the 1st. I believe there was a point we were up 44-18 halfway through the 3rd in that game. Not very often we get to do that to Jefferson.

You too! Enjoy the rest of the season. Should be a good one.

Novinger loses to Cairo,
Cairo gets pounded by Glasgow,
Glasgow loses to Marceline,
Meadville beats Marceline,
Novinger plays Meadville to 8,
Northwestern loses to Meadville by 50,
then beats Hardin Central who beat Braymer,
who beat Stanberry.

Inconsistency, injury, or sickness can play an amazing part in all of the past games, as well as the one's going forward. I would hate to make a prediction

Mid-Buch's road isn't easy. Sacred Heart is the quarterfinal game more then likely. Plus Wellington-Napoleon in sectionals. With the possibility of playing Rich Hill or even Skyline or Osceola in the event of an upset in District 14. But Sacred Heart is the real threat.

This should be fun the next couple of weeks for Class 1 basketball in NWMO. Stanberry still has to be the favorite until somebody knocks them out, but Braymer and North Andrew have proved that it is possible. Braymer always gets better as the season goes along and they have the combination of size and a slashing guard to make it tough for anybody. Hardin-Central's two double digit losses came to 2 excellent ball-clubs while their leading scorer and rebounder was out with an injury. They have the talent to win it all but are very inconsistent. Winston may be the most impressive team I have seen in this quarterfinal side of the bracket. I think they have their team picture in the dictionary next to "Quick". Jefferson has the tradition but seems to have had a lot of "up and down" moments. Norborne has been on a hot streak, winning the CLAA tournament last week, behind some unbelievable 3 point shooting. North Andrew, Mound City and Osborn all have the ability to knock a team out on any given night. I think that this year it all comes down to matchups. If I was forced to pick winners I'd take Hardin-Central, Winston, Stanberry and North Andrew to advance. Have to give props to Meadville - they are the best Class 1 team we've seen this year.
