Gave up 10 hits in 5 innings. How is this possible? Against Fowler and company he was a HOFer.

The Astros signed Michael Brantley to a 2 year deal last December. He has been batting third in the WS. That’s one hell of an addition to an already great lineup. The Braves signed Donaldson to a 1 year deal and he had a super year. Why is it Mo cannot find a hitter who doesn’t have to have a 5 year deal and sign them without trading 3 prospects?

instead we sign Fowler to 5 freakin years and give Carp an extension when he still has a year left on his contract.

Donaldson sure seemed like a guy we could have used who had an obvious spot he could play on the team at 3B

But we already had Carp who was once a high average/obp guy who rarely struck out and had 50 doubles and 10 HR's. They had to turn him into a 25-30 HR/launch angle guy instead and ruined him for life. :(

I think the shift is what has killed Marp. He's never used more than 2/3 of the field and its probably closer to 1/2. Once teams committed to the shift 100% against him he's been on the downhill slide. That and they don't throw him many fastballs in his wheelhouse that he can yank over the fence anymore. Honestly he should bunt at least twice a game. He could still have a decent OBP if he'd do that and learn to just poke it towards the left side. But like most MLBers, he's too stubborn to give in and do it.

exactly. The shift has ruined him. He just can’t cope.

Father Time didn't help
All of that is true but he still gets fastballs to hit and has a lot of swing and miss AB's and when you get to see the box he growls about of lot strikes called that ARE in the zone. His great batitng eye may have never been so great.

His eye used to be very good. He was seldom wrong according to the box. But his frustration from not being as successful as he used to be has caused his eye to go south like everything else.
