The deal is a "gift" that includes paying taxes annually (at least in MO, not sure what UT's deal is), insurance (which has sky rocketed lately), gas, (my Dodge averages a blistering 18 mph on the highway) and imagine driving and parking one on the average college campus. Guessing there will be a few on Craig's List and in the future the players will quote the great Randy Moss by saying, "Straight cash, homey"

It's not a truck outright, it's a 6 month lease. And yeah thinking about on campus parking was the first thing I thought of too lol

That's one way to get all these trucks off the lot that have been gathering dust the last year. LOL.

I guarantee you the dealer ain’t losing any money on this deal. It’s a 6 month lease that rolls over as long as the athlete stays in the program.

another example of this getting out of hand, just like oponents said would happen. There is no way this is NIL it it blatant Pay for Play. and no one will do anything about it.

Less appealing locations like Oklahoma can see the writing on the wall--NIL will diminish them. I can go glam at USC or Colorado, where the chance for NIL money is much greater.

I just noticed JuJu Marks (2025) decommitted from MU after just a couple weeks. Immediately I thought he is holding out for more NIL money from the collective. Up until two years ago when I heard the word collective I thought of the Borg from Star Trek. I wonder how prominent these collectives are in the recruiting process. I bet in the AAU culture they are as present as the coaches. I still think of this guy when I hear about all these guys getting NIL deals.

Good. Hopefully the labor force will get as much as anybody is willing to give them. Go capitalism!

Pretty sure OU has a nice NIL deal in place.
Former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Barry Switzer announced a new NIL collective program on Friday evening. Naming it 1Oklahoma, football, men’s basketball, and softball players will have the opportunity to make money through the collective. Every football player on the roster could make as much as $50,000 according to Switzer.

I believe even last year OU was getting lots of softball transfers because of NIL. They are basically putting out an Olympic gold medal level team every year now.

I believe that mens and womens basketball, football and softball have the deal in place and Barry wants to extend it to all sports

The NCAA has washed their hands of paying players and basically said to the universities "You want it, you regulate it".

College big time sports get the money. Pay the kids. Few of them will make it to the next level. It's always been the schools with the money get some of the better players. Doesn't mean they always win.

Are you fine with Luther Burden making $200,000 a year while you and I are helping pay for his college education?

12% of Mizzou's revenues come from state funding. We are paying for part of the NILs free education indirectly.

Never heard of a free education NIL. Sounds like your just jealous of luthers 200,000. Before NIL im assuming you were pissed at third party profiteers getting wealthy using the name image and likeness of football players like luther who indirectly get a free education from you and others.

I have always believed college athletes should be paid. I favored an early plan, supported by Ohio St among others, where each school would pool their own NIL money and provide an extra stipend to all athletes at that school, not just the star players. I envisioned paying all the athletes something like $1,000 per month, not many college kids walking around with $250 a week spending money.

Luther is fantastic!!! The Luthers of the world of the so-called "amateur" college sports should not be making 3X the salary of the average American. Their big payday is coming (and yes they can always get hurt, but solution to follow). I never thought the NCAA and the universities themselves would allow college sports to turn into a recruiting bidding war for star athletes.

Star HS football players should be allowed to go pro out of high school like other sports, or anytime after. Seems to me like the NFL is in illegal collusion preventing an 18 yr old adult the right to a job. If you're that good, and Luther may have been coming out of high school, then go pro!! The NFL doesn't want to lose their free "farm system" for player development.

I once heard, and can't verify, that the NCAA could take the TV rights money from March Madness alone and pay every DI athlete $1,000 per month. I played a little college ball and remember it really sucked being flat broke all the time. Give all of them some spending money!!
