If you have to forfeit games. you are banned from post season play that season. That will help fix some of the problems. If a kid is in doubt, do not play him until he is cleared. Pretty simple to me.

AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!! No one will learn anything about actions having consequences until something like this happens.

I'm sorry, I've been following this, but I haven't dove into it and studied it. There's been random ineligible players over the years and the occasional AD that refuses to acknowledge a transfer out, but nothing like the big cases this season. Did a team get rolled up or turbo'd and rat out another school? Is there a different reporting system? What is the sudden uptick in these forfeit cases? Seems to me like MSHSAA has all they can handle with geography and district creation and the unveiling of boys volleyball, I don't know how they have time to chase down all these illegal players.
In layman terms, what's the scoop? Thanks, I'll hang up and listen.

it's crazy to me that mshsaa has the participation tracker form on the front page of the football site and no one thought this would be a point of emphasis.

My guess is that it goes along with all these transfers that are taking place.
Nobody is going to worry about MSHSAA taking away some meaningless regular season wins.

When they start booting people from the postseason, things will get 'fixed'.

Odds of that happening are slim though. Gotta sell that streaming service!

Lincoln College Prep went from a super easy first round game to playing Grandview. OTOH Ritter doesn't care. They will win that district regardless unless some of these guys can't play.

I've been wondering the same thing. Why all of a sudden is all of this just now happening. I guess there's no one around that can answer this question, but two weeks ago I heard nothing about this. Now look at where we're at.

It sounds like in some scenarios it's about playing kids too many quarters, in others it's just flat out ineligible players. I understand the difference there, but it's never really explained whenever someone is sanctioned. So confusing and the discourse around it is typically nonsensical.

someone(s) with enough money and leverage has started to care about it and here we are. As always follow the money

Has there been changes at the top at MSHSAA? I have never really kept track who is with them, but it seems like someone has come in and maybe trying to crack down on things, but not real sure.

after their last few years, they need some 'wins'. This is easy pickins

The long time director retired and there is a new lady who is the top shot. I cannot think of names at the moment.

Let's have some common sense: Half of the transfer rules in place just hurt the kids. No we don't need open enrollment but if you look at the transfer to Lincoln Prep from Hogan Prep, it seems like that transfer of a sophomore student had no merit to be marked as a no but they did it anyways. You look at the whole thing with the Glendale kid from Kickapoo as well, did they really need to mark him as not eligible, your shutting down an average player on an average team. It's adults taking things away from kids half the time, grow up. Put common sense rules into place instead of making it super hard for kids to play varsity sports. It's different if these are division 1 athletes and public schools are making super teams, but no we let private schools do that, just make sure there's a made up in state- address that no one checks on and it's all cool. No how about AD's and Coaches let kids play, just a thought.

It is not super hard to stay at home and play for your school. If not, whole family moves to another district. Transfer your electric bills etc to your new home and play all you want. None of this "I will rent a house with mailing address on it or I will live with my sibling to attend another school.

I disagree, I think they are legitimate reasons for people being able to move without it having to be a full-family move. Doesn't make sense that we have two sets of rules, one for private schools and one for public schools. I do agree with you that there should be bigger punishments for those who are purposefully breaking the rules, but for others of these cases it seems like they are hammering them for no reason. I'd argue that some of the rules in place need changed first before doing as you have suggested. Do what's best for all kids primarily, not just those who can afford to go to a private school.

I don't really care anymore. Cheaters going cheat. I do have one thing, if you got a Kansas address or some other state you don't play. Missouri championship should be for Missourians.

Rules definitely need to be redefined.

1. If a kid physically moves to a new district or school boundary, he is eligible. I don’t care the reason.
2. Private schools boundaries change from 25 miles to 15 OR the public school district the school resides in. Which ever the school declares (cannot be changed)
3. Students are eligible if they transfer from a private school to a public school in the district they live in.
4. AD must provide actual documentation if it suspected transfer was for athletics. All student athletes are eligible until proven otherwise. Games played until a determination is made will not be forfeited. Student athletes can only be deemed ineligible in varsity sports they have participated in.
5. Schools that have forfeited 50% or more games are ineligible for the postseason. Private schools are automatically awarded 1 championship factor points for every game that is forfeited
6. Change championship factor from 6 to 4 years but no cap on number of classes that can be jumped. Jump a class for every 3 points.

So what about a public to private school transfer? Eligible?

I like them all except a small change to a couple.
2. Keep the current range.
5. I would lower it to 33%.

But I really like the general idea of these.

I like these ideas. The follow common sense and give kids benefit of the doubt.

What about any new hot mom rules??

This is venturing into uncharted and potentially dangerous waters. What if it's a step mom and the bio mom is, um, homely? What if it's dad's latest shack up and she'll be gone by districts? What if the athlete has "two moms" and one is hot and one is, well, not? I mean, you're dealing with an organization (MSHSAA) that has it's hands full with district creation, questionable officiating and strong arming livestream control, do you want to place this judgement call on them, too? Sorry, Kane and Bosko, but I'm going to vote against this one.

I knew there was something funny about you! You DONT support hot moms! My advice? NEVER venture into Kearney!

This an't rocket science boys. Know the rules and then follow the rules, think about them before you transfer and the consequences if you try to circumvent them, end of story!! There are always consequences and there will always be consequences for your actions good or bad!!
In the end isn't that is what we are trying to teach these kids? In life you don't get a do over, if you don't follow the rules, follow the rules and if you don't be prepared for what might come! We always ask why do we need so many warning labels now...Because nobody listens and nobody thinks these rules are for them!! I feel sorry for the kid, honestly do, but in the end there are rules. 10 years from now what did we teach these young people that are following this case closely? That others are to blame for your actions and not you yourself, that is what is wrong today with so many we want to blame others for our problems that we bring to ourselves... dang folks.

These rules have been around for along time and nobody seemed to bitch about them? Until recently now everybody wants to hire a lawyer to change something cry about what an injustice they are having to go thru this is all a witch hunt I did nothing wrong!! We all talk about how the youth today does not respect authority, we see it in our schools out in public, we complain how entitled they act, well this is exactly why. People don't think they have to follow the rules and we are teaching that to the youth, they believe they can hire any lawyer then that Lawyer smears the other side until nobody knows what the truth is anymore and all the bleeding hearts come out and say let the poor people have their way what will it hurt... Well what it hurts is what we all complain about everyday where our society is heading.... Anyways I will get off my stump and stop yelling get off my lawn....LOL.

But also if you don't like the rules, Let's work to change the rules for the better. But until then let's try to follow them and let's all get along.
