Astonishing how fast the transfer portal and extra Covid year has changed everything. Some very talented seniors again this year that I'd have assumed were low-mid D1 prospects aren't even getting looks.
This is a guess, but it sure feels like baseball's format.
D1 is the show and a very select few make it there out of high school. Hardly any of the scouts even bother going to any non Nike AAU stuff from here out?
D2 is AAA
D3/NAIA is A/AA

They will get poached all the way up to the top as they age. So unless you are on a national top 100 you are probably going to start out in the minors. Very few of the kids will graduate from the smaller schools and so they will constantly replenish with high schoolers and D1 is populated with juniors and seniors completely filling rosters? Problem is anything below D2 (and some D2) you better hope you have great academics or you are paying a lot of money to these schools, especially private with the lack of full rides they offer.

But the club coaches promised us Lil Johnny will get a scholarship after we spent $10-15,000 over the last 8-10 years. You could plug that into any sport and they are having the same issues.
Hopefully those coaches are changing their tune AND parents are waking up to what just happened but I think most are unaware unless they have older kids already through high school.
