With the unexpected departure of Vince Bingham to KU, who are they going to get to coach the boy's? Is the position open or are they going to fill it from within? The Girl's coach could probably do it since he hasn't had to coach too much the last few years with Allison and the recently graduated Borman.

I believe they are going to give it someone on staff. None of which work very hard... Why was the departure unexpected?!?!?! I think Warren Hayes told everybody a year ago to expect just exactly what happen. I remember the article....

Re: The New Coach IS

Chris Partney got the offer and accepted the job. He teaches history at the High School and has coached track for several years at Festus. I'm not sure if he wanted the head track job or if he even applied for the head track job when they hired Vince Bingham almost 2 years ago. I'm sure Chris will do a much better job coaching the boys than his counter part does coaching the girls. The girls coach should just count his lucky blessings that he even got the girls job 3 years ago. Once the Allison girl graduates it will be interesting to sit back and watch and see if he has any real coaching abilities.

Re: The New Coach IS

Wow, It seems a certain Tiger Fan is not to happy with some things going on over here in Tiger Land. This so called Fan seems to have some sort of knowledge about the Tigers with some of their past posts. I wish I could get a chance to sit down and talk to this supposed, Fan, and see what they think should be done at Festus to make the sports there better, I think I could learn from all the insite and knowledge. I cant speak for all, but I can assure this great Fan of ours that no matter who is in charge, the coaches that are there, and have been there coaching track will work as hard, or harder and put the time in to be successful than any other in the team in county. Oh, one other thing Festus Tiger Fan, I think I remember that the Festus Girls won the conference last year, without Borman, without their second best thrower Eacker, without their best sprinter. So I would say that the coaches and other girl athletes at the school will manage to be successful.

Re: The New Coach IS

If you think I am the only FESTUS FAN with issues about certain coaches then you obviously don't listen to what people are saying in town about a lot of you. With that said I will leave it at that.

On a final note though, you basically pointed out that you won a conference title with out 3 of your best athletes. So big deal if you won basically a WEAK conference title over other weak track programs in the county. You keep patting yourself on the back though because you obviously think you deserve it.

Re: The New Coach IS

Yes, I will have to agree with you about that, but is that the coached fault the conference is weak. And yes I can agree with you that their are probably some issues going on at Festus. With that being said, I have to ask, what can the coaches do about it? As for as what people are saying in town, Well thats probably out of our control as well.

Re: The New Coach IS

EWWWW!!! I can't wait for someone in the know to answer this one. I know he is at some of the meets, but not sure why he doesn't do it all the time. Maybe it is the need for family time or that he doesn't mesh with the other coaches on the staff. Interesting question!!!

I think the girls coach will do a pretty nice job. Festus has been a track powerhouse the last couple of years. But this year should be interesting as Herky takes it a notch up as well.

Both. I've heard they're bringing in some more coaches. They should have one for just about every event now. I can't wait for the season to start. It should be a fun one.

Re: The New Coach IS

Maybe the other coaches on staff don't mesh with him very well? He has always seemed like a nice enough guy to me.

Re: The New Coach IS

If you knew anything about local track (like you pretend to) you would know that Bryant Wright will be the boy's assistant this year. This was announced a long time ago.

Some of us REAL Festus fans do not air our personal problems (and yes, I have some too) in public forums to trash the names of good coaches. There are coaching problems everywhere in high school sports, but I think as fans/parents/etc.. we should keep personal attacks out of it.

All I know is that my kids have always been treated fairly by the coaches in the track program. They may not have been the best athletes, but they were always coached well and kept involved.

In the earlier post someone mentioned the "weak conference" championships. How about the state finishes that the girls have acccomplished over the past several years? How many conference titles and top 10 and top 5 state finishes before you give out a little credit?

They may have had some stars the last few years, but the girls program was having great results before those stars and is about to reload again.

Re: The New Coach IS

The last two state 2nd place finishes from the spring of 07 and 08 had largely been won because of the points Allison and Borman brought to the table. Without those two Festus wouldn't have been anywhere near the top 4 these past two seasons. Take Precious Selmon for example. Went to state last year and single handly won a state plaque for Crystal City all by herself. So who do you credit? Well her of course because she won all the points that gave Crystal City the state 2nd or 3rd place finish. Did some girls get points for Festus these past two years? Yes but again without Borman and Allison Festus doesn't win 2nd either year. In track, some years are just like that. Take Berkeley for example when they won a state title in class 4 the last two years. Team effort all the way around. They had some stud runners but they won that title because of several athletes.

Before the 07 and 08 seasons the last trip to state that produced a state plaque ended up being way back I believe in 1984. A team coached by Janice Williams who took several girls to state and who all contributed in some way or form to that STATE CHAMPIONSHIP title run. Which by the way is the only state championship Festus has ever had on the girls side. As for the boys, they have two state titles hanging in the gym but technically speaking both of those titles had been won by Douglas High School before it was shut down in the 1950's.

Also Festus has had some very talented Individual State Champions over the years on both the boys and Girls side.

Your right though I know nothing of Jefferson County Track history so I wouldn't have known any of that either so I guess I'm just making that part of Festus Girls Track history up.

As far as Bryant Wright goes, he is a good man. Was his hire ever published in the paper? NO, so how would the average person know that he had been hired until you actually saw him out there training with the kids. I don't associate with the man much but I am glad to hear he was hired as a coach.

As I said before, Partney was a good hire and a very well deserved hire. He will do fine in that position.

Re: FESTUS HIGH SCHOOL.................................

Correct...they are very good athletes and had many people help them. We were very fortunate to have them and they are tremendous competitors, students, and human beings.

Berkley is a class 3 school and if you take there best two athletes away they would of not been the top two last year either. Usery and Ruff combined for about 60 points between the two.

In 2006 the Festus girls scored 41 points and were 5th which was good enough for a plaque virtually every year but 3 or 4 (Coached by Dan Hoehn).

The Festus boys technically have three hanging in the gym....two won by Douglas. Which I think ALL the points were scored by virtually two boys. They also have a basketball state championship they won in '91 that was coached by (Rod Gorman record 30-1)

1985 Girls Track and how they scored
200 m 2nd Kim Richeson 57.86 Festus
400 m relay 2nd Festus 50.60
800 m relay 2nd Festus 1:46.11
1600 m relay 6th Festus 4:06.74
long Jump 1st Teresa Thornton 18-11.50 Festus
triple Jump 2nd Teresa Thornton 36-00.25 Festus
triple Jump 7th Kim Richeson 35-02.50 Festus
1985 had two very good athletes in Theresa Thorton and Kim Richeson...Thorton held the state record for some time in the long jump and was a good sprinter. Richeson went on to place several times with a personal best in the 400 around 57. I would assume if you take these two off the relays they would not of finished 2nd or 6th. With that being said Coach Williams always did a great job with the girls program and is very well thought of by the by many including the current coaching staff.
Coach Partney will do a fine job and has been apart of the track program for some time 10+ years.

Re: FESTUS HIGH SCHOOL.................................

Good point on Berkley about Usery and Ruff but at the same time you reinforced my point which was with out all of their athletes they would not have won the last two Girls Class 3 state titles.

Yes technically speaking three state championship banners are hanging in the High School Gym that concern Boys Sports at Festus but at the time I made the comment regarding state championship banners I was speaking only about Track.

Your stats on the 1985 title team again reinforces my point that it was a team title and not just a couple of individuals scoring all the points.

Track as we all know is a funny sport. Some years like the last three years at Festus most of the points have come from just two girls. Then again in some years you need the whole team contributing to win that State title just like Festus got in 1985.

Hawk....good luck to you and your girls this spring.

Re: FESTUS HIGH SCHOOL.................................

Not sure how I clarified your point being that in 1985 85% of the points were scored by two people, but I'm glad I could help you out.

Re: FESTUS HIGH SCHOOL.................................

True, as you pointed out 85% of those points came from 2 people but it took others on that team to score points to win the State Title. Without the two girls Festus doesn't win a state title in 1985 just like Festus doesn't win the state title that year without the other girls on that team also scoring points to lock up the championship.

So we are both making correct points and therefore both of us are correct.

Re: FESTUS HIGH SCHOOL.................................

Good to see it's business as usual in Festus.

Re: FESTUS HIGH SCHOOL.................................

Good call, Bogey. It is amazing to me how my original posting was just to inquire about the new coach, and they are at each other's throats in no time. A bit of good news, it did take longer than anticipated for that to happen though.

Re: FESTUS HIGH SCHOOL.................................

I wasn't attacking anyone, just making points. Have a good day and enjoy the snow that they say we are getting tomorrow.
