What are thoughts on this one? I don't really see much talk about this game anywhere and it seems to me to be one of the more close matchups of the week.

Apples vs. Oranges. Would only be able to hazard a guess at Nevada but don't be fooled by Lincoln Prep's record they were a whole lot better last year.

Reeds Spring and Mt Vernon are both better than anyone LP has played, with the exception of Center
And, to be fair, Center is a huge exception. Elite level C4 team in all likelihood (will start to get that idea this Friday in another apples vs. oranges matchup hosting CJ).

This isn’t about how good or not good Nevada is. Or is it about how good WP is. Just in regards to Nevada this week? Everyone in KC media picked Harrisonville to roll, they didn’t. And now are picking Lincoln Prep. Look, LP can absolutely win. But I have my money on Nevada. I don’t think LP is as good as last year. That’s the MAIN reason. I don’t think Nevada will beat Center or anything. But they can win this game.

I feel like LP is not nearly as good as last year, They let a bad Warrensburg team play them a close game. If the Burg scored 25.. Nevada will score 50.. The question is, can Nevada hold LP??
Outside of Lamar and Seneca, who exactly has Nevada played? 🤣🤣

Against the two Class 4 teams that Nevada has played they are .500
since when is 2-1 .500? and in those 3 games against class 4 teams, 2 of the 3 they won in blowouts. The loss was a fluke against a team they would beat 8 or 9 out of 10 times. Not to mention wins over RS and Seneca, and they were the one of only two team to score more than 14pts vs Lamar. The schedules are not even close to comparable..LP is playing the KCPS Central, Southeast, East etc....

I mean all he did was punt for webb city ?

I’m referring to the regular season when I say .500 against Class 4 teams.
they were referencing comparing the schedules of both schools.

in the regular season they beat Class 4 Monett and lost to Class 4 Mac County.

everyone is playing schools their own size this time of year so I didn’t count the game against harrisonville.
look at the context first before you try making a point that isn’t there.

Is Lincoln Prep as good this year as they were last year? Definitely not.

is Nevada THAT much better this year than they were last year? I guess we’ll find out on this Friday or next Friday.

last year Nevada lost by 3-4 TDs to Lamar and a close one to Mac.

this year…. Nevada lost by 3-4 TDs to Lamar and a close one to Mac

so forgive me for not 100% buying that Nevada is so much better than they were last year.

Are they better than Lincoln Prep this year? Probably a few TDs better.

does the evidence and results show that Nevada is better than they were last year? Not yet.

I know this isn’t directed at me. But that’s what I’m getting at

I agree.
Nevada is a good ball club, but I just personally see them losing in the district title game again this year.
the only Large Class 4 team they played this year, they lost and Center is going to be miles ahead of Mac County when it comes to talent, speed and skill.

Oh yeah. McDonald county was a lot better last year, and they still didn’t show up in districts.

How’s this years team?
It’s really hard to say. Went 6-3 in the regular season which is the worst they’ve finished in the OC since…2016? I think.

they’ve still got plenty of talent. But they come out flat some games and the defense isn’t as salty as it has been the last couple of years.

Lost by 17 to Cammy
Lost by 15 to Kickapoo
Lost by 3 to Lebanon.

the best game they played all year was the 45-42 loss to Lebanon.
defense allowed a lot that game, but the WP offense scored at will. A late turnover spoiled that one for WP if I remember correctly.

the QB doesn’t get enough credit with a lot of people after the graduation of Kenslow. He can throw and he can run

receivers are
6’1 200 lbs Sr
6’4 215 lbs Sr
6’6 210 lbs Soph
6’0 200 lbs Sr
All can catch and are fast.

FB is 6’2 230 lb Jr
He is a load to bring down when he gets going. He’s had multiple runs of 20-30 yards this year.
He’s not someone you can sleep on, that’s for sure

HB is a 6’0 205 lb Sr who plays both ways and had his hand in a cast the first month or two of the season. and he has impressed me the most. Doesn’t make any crazy long plays typically, but he puts his head down and breaks tackles and doesn’t give up on contact.

OL has good size and quickness but only one of them was a starter last year.

Have a lot of depth on Off and Def this year, believe it or not.

If they put it all together, I have no doubt they could make a run to the semis or maybe even to the title game.
They have an easier path to Columbia than any of the other schools because of how weak their district is as well as either having to play either Hannibal without their Stud or Jeff City in the QF
Then more than likely Parkway Central, Hazelwood East or Vashon in the Semis.

They are definitely on the weak side of the bracket this year. That’s for sure.

with that being said, I could name at least 4 schools on the other side of the bracket that are better teams.

I don’t even consider WP a top 5 team in Class 4 this year, but with how everything is formatted with the playoffs and districts and what not, it’s about as favorable as it’s going to get for WP.

at the end of the day, if they play like they did against Lebanon, I think they can play with just about anyone in Class 4, but they haven’t played with that intensity and urgency but maybe in one other game this year.
but hey, this week starts the win or go home for them. Guess we’ll see how they respond.

Hard to compare scores...Monett beat Mac County 18-0 and lost to Nevada 48-7 Nevada is one of the best teams we played so far this year.

Well Chaotic, we get to travel there, on film you guys look pretty good.
I’m not saying WP isn’t good. But they’re definitely not what they have been the last few years.
this years team has had a lot of growing pains.
WP graduated a lot of 2 and 3 year starters last season and a 4 year starter in Lair.
i will say that WP hasn’t been as prone to the “stupid” penalties as they have been the last 3-4 years but they’ve still got some mental mistakes to iron out but they’re healthy headed into districts as far as I know.

I’ll be in Butler on Friday but I’ll definitely be keeping tabs on the game

I plan on being there. Has West Plains played Monett before? I don’t think they have as far as I can remember. Also I agree they have started clicking together as a team towards the end of the season and expect them to make it to the quarters.

im not going to say they’ve never played WP, but I know they haven’t in the last 20 years that I’ve been following the team. before that, Bullit would be more likely to know than I.
even way back in the day when WP was in Class 3, I’d say Monett was probably Class 2 since there were less classes

Nope first meeting. I think West Plains was always just a bit bigger than us.

Interesting. Sounds like they are young. They have had a pretty good program over the past decade range it seems. Will be infesting to see how this all shakes out. Maybe they have a run in them this year.

Most of West Plains high school enrollment comes from feeder K-8s. Actually in town numbers are not that big. Been that way for quite awhile, so I dont think they are shrinking.

Not really other towns, most of the feeder schools are a little ways outside of city limits. Those schools have been the main athletes for WP.

MV has only beaten 1 team with a winning record (Game 1). Same for Reeds Spring. Lets not act like they are Juggernauts. They both have the luxury of playing Big 8 East football..

Thanks Tad, Yeah looking West Plains k-8 averages about 150 kids per grade then goes up to almost 300 kids in grades 9-12. That would be like a school the size of Monett taking in MV or Aurora school district just for high school. So I could see were you could get some nice Athletes doubling your enrollment.

I saw were some of those other districts that just have k-8 around WP average about 40 kids per grade, have they never had High schools and always combined with West Plains.

MV has had an interesting year. I was not overly impressed with them early but some how they have kept winning despite thier youth. Old Tom somehow always gets them up when it counts and somehow finds a way to win.

Heard the band has really flourished with the kids from those schools.
