MSU buys out Steckel

NDSU has more Florida and Georgia kids than Mo kids. Almost 1/3 of their roster is from Minnesota and Wisconsin. They have recruits from all over the U.S. Several from Illinois. Not many from the Dakota’s.

I'm talking about the entire decade, not just this year.

MO State recruiting should start with about a 4 hour radius from Springfield. You can hit almost all of the state including St. Louis and KC, That would get you deep into OK, AR, and KS. Hit those areas hard and then branch out. Obviously look into FL and TX for some athletes too. If you keep your recruiting "local" like that you will create more interest from people who may actually attend your games to go see players they are familiar with. There have been numerous players from the area they haven't even recruited that went on to have success at other FCS and big D2 schools.

Recruiting also depends on your staff members and the relationships they have in certain areas of the country. A school that has never recruited in Florida can suddenly land some recruits by hiring the right coach.

Need to look at Paul Simmons the current HC at Harding University.

- 30-9 record over 3 seasons.
- Flexbone coach who will bring a change of pace offense to the MVC.
- is familiar recruiting Arkansas, Tennessee, Texas, and presumably Missouri.
- he is a Harding alum so it may be hard to get him out of there, but if there is an allure of moving up to D1, plus the probable raise he would get may get the job done.

Missouri State is in need of some serious facility upgrades if they want to compete in The Valley. The weight room needs to be updated, an indoor facility is needed, and a locker room at the stadium would be nice. Compare MSU facilities to the other teams in The Valley and D2 facilities at Northwest, Missouri Western, etc... That is what attracts the top athletes in the 2000's. "If you build it, they will come"

You must not have been on campus in a few years because other than building an indoor facility they have already upgraded everything you mentioned. There are locker rooms at the stadium now and the weight room was upgraded under Stec.

But they didn't put showers in the new 'game-day' locker rooms. A minor problem. I hope they at least put toilets in them!!!

If I am a football coach who wants to have a future, I would stay as far away from the cluster that is Missouri State athletics. The Missouri State football program is the Cleveland Browns equivalent of D-1AA football...haven't been relevant since late 80s early 90s. In my opinion, this article paints Moats as pretty incompetent as an AD and its clear he won't be calling the shots on this hire.

I thought Moats should have gone with Stec or before. He is a horrible AD.

I Think the only way MSU could positively contribute to the sport of football is to hire Booger Mcfarland as the HC and get him off the air.
OUCH. Hey, I think Boog is solid. He needs a sideline helper. You know the guys that make money carrying the head coaches cord or pulling on him so they stay off the field? Boogs needs one of those guys reminding him he is on TV and not the radio.

Moats should go too. He's obviously not a football guy. If you want a good football program you need football people at all levels. At least Smart is saying to point the finger at himself on this hire. Maybe he should go to at this point. There's really no good reason that the program has been so unsuccessful other than the people in charge don't know what they are doing.

D2 Northwest Missouri is better at everything than Missouri State. Sad. Hell, their basketball team only lost to Duke by 6.

What a waste of a discussion. The football program sucks, has for 20 years. Operates in the red and all these idiots in charge refuse to end the program for pride. Better athletes dont want to be here, period. “Bear up”, so sick of hearing all this talk from losers. It wont get better no matter how many new lights you put up, how many upgrades to the stadium, how many stupid tough guy slogans you create. They are division 2 caliber at best.
