Can't fix stupid. I sure hope the money they make for this is needed.

Glad I bought a few extra Wilsons this year to sit back in case of budget cuts next year......

Personally I like the Wilson ball better. I've seen the Spalding. Not the same feel....

I thought MSHSAA was the members, not just some folks that sit in offices. How do they make these changes without a vote of the members?

Well since they're apparently obsolete, all coaches should promptly ship all old Wilson basketballs to 1 Keene Street, Columbia, MO, 65201.

Not every decision requires a vote of the members. That would, in all honesty, be pretty crazy for something like this.

Side note...Am I the only one that misses the Rawlings ball? Seemed to be the only one you didn't have to put air in two or three times throughout the course of the season.

The Wilson Ball is a better ball and its not even in the same ballpark. Spalding basketballs rank right there with the outdoor ball with the rubber nubs all over them.

I get that, but don't you think coaches should get some say in the ball they use?

You can continue to use whatever ball you want during the season. It's only required to use the state ball during Districts and Playoffs. Now that being said, we will use the new one for games and get a few for practice while keeping mostly Wilson balls. Simply don't have budget to fill up a new rack.

I'm sure that is a common thought for most programs.

So you would have your kids use a different ball in the playoffs than what they used all year? If they feel that much different I wouldn't want to do that.

No, I'm saying we'll use the new ball as much as possible (especially games), but we aren't going to be able to buy a dozen or more at $60 each. Even buying bulk and getting a discount will be too much. It's going to be a mixed rack for a year or two.

Does this rule go into effect immediately? I hope not, making kids adjust to brand new balls with a month to go until district play seems unfair. I didn't mind the Spalding TF-1000, but was happy when we did away with them and got the Wilson's. Spalding TF-1000s allow for a better grip, almost a sticky feeling to them, not nearly as soft as the Wilson's. All a matter of preference I suppose. However, for the player's sake, I hope this rule goes into effect next season .

Yes. Using the available resources on very limited budgets. Are you judging coaches on the competitive considerations of this when they weren't even surveyed how they felt about it? Maybe we can buy a couple Spaldings and practice with them the week before districts. Can't justify 10 new Wilsons becoming recess balls.

I'm not judging anybody and I certainly understand the budget issues. I was the one asking why coaches don't get to vote on which ball they use, or least when to change.

My first year as a head coach and I bought 10 Wilson's this past year at a cost of 600.00. Now we are changing basketballs. It is frustrating! I will buy several new Spalding balls so that the kids can use them, but very frustrating.

About the time you buy and use them, MSHSAA will sign a different deal for more money and switch the balls again!! I'm buying the patent on the 12 pack of mixed ball packages that will be made available through your sporting good stores!

We used to use warped pizza hut balls that they gave out as a promotion from the final four. I think the kids will be able to handle the different ball.

The kids will no doubt. It is the small schools like Chamois that will suffer having to buy new balls to use when the budgets are already tight. Unnecessary expenses for districts.

Yeah it sucks but pretty much we won't replace the balls until they are wore out. We will just use the "wrong" ones.
