Matt Carpenter got the start at 1st base tonight. He came up to bat with a runner on 1st and the closest defender to 3rd base was the pitcher and he refused to bunt the ball to the left side. They were giving him a hit, possibly a double and an RBI, and he stood up there and struck out. Whoever told him a few years ago he needed to hit more HR's absolutely ruined him.

I'm not sure I've ever looked forward to a player exiting the Cards as much as I'm looking forward to him being gone. That said, he'll probably sign a minor league deal for someone next year and be a triple crown candidate in May.

Probably will be... I'm ready to move on from Marp, Martinez, Miller, Dejong honestly. That's a lot of money for absolutely 0 production. I also think Reyes's mental is absolutely screwed up.

I have found a great way to avoid the frustration this season....when you don't get the channel that carries them on TV each night, you don't watch, and pretty soon you realize you can live without seeing the blown saves, strikeouts, multiple pitching changes, etc.

Everybody but Dejong comes off the books after this year. Can't imagine you'll see any of them back. Might have to get accustomed to Dejong and his .675 OPS. He's signed through 2025, thanks to one of those Mo knee jerk extension deals to the WASPy dudes. Nobody is going to take that contract on given his current level of play.

I could handle having Dejong if we got rid of the other 3 and he was a bench bat/utility infield guy instead of starting SS. I know Sosa doesn't hit with a lot of power but I do enjoy watching him or would love to see us go after a FA SS like Story with the money we are getting off the books. A lot of holes to fill though.

My guess is Story is the guy they'll pursue, just because of his relationship with Arenado. Buyer beware, his road splits aren't pretty either. Btw, be prepared for Dejong to be the DH next year. My guess is that is happening. I assume they'll pursue a bat at SS and the OF, move Dejong to DH, and dumpster dive for some pitching. I can't imagine Yadi and Waino both agreed to come back and sign up for more of this .500 middling crap.

If Sosa had the AB's I'd bet he would have as many HR's as Dejong. He has crushed a couple and can go deep to the opposite field.
