We have the premier program in the country, but it's not the premier job in the country, or even the region for that matter. If we wish to keep Pat Smith or anyone of that caliber for that matter, we must seriously evaluate where we are at as far as salaries, benefits, incentives, camps, duties, etc. compared to other programs wanting and expecting success. It's time to "Buck Up" and reward a guy for running a model program. To all readers from othe programs, please share all information you have regarding the coaching contracts from your schools and the list of duties required. It will be a very interesting to see the comparisions.

Do you know what the Moberly package consists of? Sounds as if you are an insider and have all the scoop. Tell us what you know.

Re: Moberly needs to

In the West Plains newspaper, didn't it say Coach Barr earned about $44,000 plus camp money? I was a little surprised it was that low given he has been there about 8 years.

If that is the range Coach Smith is in, no wonder he was looking at $80,000 plus camp money at a D2 school.

Re: Moberly needs to

As a program that has only beaten Pat Smith's Moberly squard One out of six times, I must admit that he is worth at least 50 grand plus.

Re: Moberly needs to

Would you believe it's a salary alot less than that plus alot more duties. For one, the job requires a Master's Degree, he teaches 8 hours per semester, he splits an assistant with the girls program (which by the way, that salary is less than 10K per year), is the bus driver to and from the games, has no full time secretary, and gets ZERO camp money. If we want to be on a National Championship level, let's compare salaries and duties to Joe O'Brien at Burlington, who makes over 75K per year PLUS camp money and no teaching duties. We've gotten by way too cheap for too long. Any Bluff guys know what the Bess Package consist of? Please comment.

Ewing, how do you know so much about what Smith gets paid?

Re: Moberly needs to

I believe Coach Callahan was only making in the upper 20's in the late 80's so I doubt if the salary now is much more than 40 with no perks. But maybe things have changed.
