To paraphrase his statements
"We have a lot of work to do.
To this point, I have been impotent
and can't get anything accomplished.
We are going to get better by having our over the hill injured players be healthy.
Holliday is having a wonderful off season.
We are going to enjoy watching the Cubs in the post season for the next decade."

Any chance the bow ties are causing the impotence???

One MLB reporter said more than one GM said their team considers Heyward a Complimentary player and not a star.
They question whether his hitting will hold up (see 2014). They say he is not a natural hitter.

They also said if Heyward goes to the cubs the cardinals will immediately turn their attention to Chris Davis.

Davis to 1st and I guess Moss to right would make me happier than JHey and $20 mil

If they get a 1st baseman they dang sure better have Piscotty in the outfield somewhere. I just read last night on the Card's website that MO says he doesn't see them picking up a 1st baseman, he's quite comfortable with their in-house choices at 1st base.

I think he's comfortable enough with them to put together a trade for a real bat. But I really can't imagine any scenario where the current compliment of OF/1B is what the Birds go into the season with, and MO is happy about it. They're either going to sign an OF/1B bat, or try like crazy to acquire one via trade. Given what's out there, I think I'm more comfortable in the trade market.

You'd rather give Davis $25 million per year? I question that a lot.......but hope the Cardinals go that route
I don't mind it for a reasonable time horizon. 6 years at 25 M per is too much. 5 years at 25? That's probably a bit high but not truly awful

Except he gets on base?

He's a terrible defensive player and very inconsistent.
