Home of the Cubs!!
Well they have a new coach they are playing during the Spring season....The team they were taking on was without their best QB and Lineman and well same results.....

Can the Bears ever ever win?

Super tough spot to coach/win IMO. Can't get the top tier D1 kids, and in the same part of the country w/ the best D2 football conference in the country. If I can go to NW, Pitt St, UCM, etc and win, why go to MSU and get my head kicked in week after week year after year. You do get to play in Norman Oklahoma from time to time

Already won the first one. Petrino has made a mistake in QB starting, put the transfer QB in later and the offense did better but it was too late. But its the first year with a proven coach. Things don't magically change over night, the talent level is already rising with Petrinio though.

This has been discussed numerous times. Until they establish their recruiting base to help get some local support, it will continue on the same path no matter who the HC is.

That is it in a nutshell. Arkansas, MU, in proximity, MIAA sucking up really good players. It is almost a lost cause. But not as much a lost cost as KU.

Well I took my boy to the game, I want to see the Bears do good... we walked the campus before the game and there were people tailgating while fans were limited but it was a fun atmosphere for a pandemic crowd. The stadium and campus are nice it is easy to walk I could see parking being terrible if they had a full crowd. And this is a chance for the bears to shine Nobody else in this area is playing football so if you want to take in a game build a fan base this is a good time.

A few negatives to me is there was nobody local that I could tell on the roster, there were a few KC kids but for the most part alot of kids were from like Texas, and that just might be the talent pool?

And I am not impressed with Bobby's style of coaching. The Bears looked very undisciplined and a lot of showboating after each tackle or minor good play. Hell even Bobby was screaming at the Zebra's the whole game, even got a flag himself. And with about 30 some seconds left in the first half the bears let a NDSU kid behind them and NDSU got a cheap easy TD 81 yard TD to go up by 25 at half. The coaching staff looked completely loss, why the Bears keep trying to go after these big time coaches to only get embarrassed is beyond me. Why don't they go get PITTS coach or even Northwestern?

Link to the play, just horrible coaching on the DC.... get in a prevent or have somebody deep to make sure that does not happen they had to go 81 yards with about 30 seconds.... why let them drop an easy bomb. Hell I have seen Webb City Youth coaches coach better.

Petrino was a damn good hire. Talent level is rising. Give it more than one season to turn around and recruiting a roster of SW Missouri kids isn't the answer.

They have to recruit local talent....about a 4 hour radius or so would hit some talent rich areas. That should be their base, then hit Texas, Florida, etc for some kids that don't get picked up elsewhere. Jucos and D1 transfers may be good for a quick fix but won't do much to establish your program and a culture that people will want to be a part of.

Im a Missouri State graduate but am ashamed in the hire of Petrino. Morals arent important at Missouri State- Look at Petrino's history between his events at Arkansas and walking out on the Falcons before the end of the season and telling everyone by leaving letters in lockers. Just (TRY TO ) win baby.

Just SAD

It is amazing that Missouri State hasn't stumbled into any resemblance of success in football since Jesse Branch. They have no real identity and seems like just somewhere that coaches come to collect a paycheck. I want them to be good, but that school is not serious about football.

BP has a history that dates all the way back to the early 1980s. What is the longest he has ever been anywhere? What is the average. As far as I can tell, he's never stayed anywhere longer than three years, including any of the multi-million dolllar jobs that are infinitely better than Missouri State. He's had 19 jobs in 37 years and most of them only lasted a year.

Missouri State isn't an overnight fix. He'll be long gone before that ship gets turned around. I don't think he came to Missouri State to figure out their mess. I think he went there to rehabilitate his image and get a real job.

He'll be on the first gravy train out of town.

It is possible that the talent level will rise in the meantime and the next coach will convince them to stay and then do something with it ... but I'll believe it when I see it.

Man I'd love to see Mo State be good at football. It's a nice school in a more desireable community than much of the conference, so you'd think they could do it but it seems to be a revolving door of failure. However, the games actually are pretty fun and the few I've been to we were attended (until halftime) with pretty good atmosphere.

I think the arrangement with BP is a scenario where both parties needed something and had something to give, and a bit of a gamble for both as well. BP is a high profile name that may be able to bring a bit of life and excitement in a perpetually struggling program. MSU can give BP a chance to repair his name and career.

It's obviously not a long term arrangement but it could be good for both parties in the short term and maybe beyond.

Read where it was their first win @ UNI since the 90's. With all the talk about this and that around the program, a lot of people forgot the dude is a heck of a coach. Obv has pulled some stunts and drama along the way, but dude knows how to run a program and win.

Make it past a Class 5 semi, then talk.

We could always do a ring check.

You know darn well the Sweet Bears have no business in the FCS.

What they do right now is not impressive in the least. Queen City Youth Ball is actually a better game to watch if I had to pick Bears or any Queen City Club.

Let’s see how the Sugar Bears play this fall with the big boys...until then, please enjoy the scrubby play, short-term success and long-term damage that will lead to further erosion of local blue-chip players who will go play somewhere other than Missouri State.

With the arrival of Petrino the defense has some real dudes on it. A lot of Power 5 type transfers who flat get after it.

Typical Bear fan. So myopic...It’s obvious you are on Coach Petrinos jock. Just because you like them, doesn’t mean they are good.
You could even insert Lady Bear Fan here too. As you get your hopes up, thinking the local team is doing something legit...you know you are facing the reality when the rug gets pulled from underneath you and you and your whack azz team has to accept that they are horrible. Your lady bears got a taste of that recently and your sugar bears will get it too. The egg timer is running. Enjoy that short term success and watch what happens 3-4 years from now.
I’m still looking for that ring 👀.

Don't worry Wal-Mart still has plenty of Mizzou t-shirts for you.

Nice new handle Veer

MO STATE MAKES THE FCS PLAYOFFS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 20 YEARS!!!!
Isn’t it the first time since 1990, that’s what I heard, not confirmed, but if true it would mean the first time in 31 years. But I haven’t looked it up or anything, so I could definitely be wrong
