That gets you a raise these days. Not run out of town. Not working the kids hard enough?
I feel there are a lot of different ways to make this decision. Mostly, if the coach is doing the best they can with the talent given, keep him/her around especially if they are a teacher. If the coach is too far below expectations for too many years then I could see releasing them for results. To me high school sports, especially in the public schools, isn't win or be fired. Private schools, maybe its different. Coaches don't get paid enough for that to be the #1 factor. It should be down the list a little ways. How do they treat players, how hard do they work, are they getting the most out of their players, are they making these players better both on and off the court? If the answer to these questions is yes then keep the coach around for as long as he/she wants to stay. When do you get rid off a coach? To much losing? Not working the kids hard enough? I think its a tuff question to answer.

Wow! That's all I got to say!Rumor has it that Lee Richardson from Lesterville has been released of his duties after 3 years. Inherited a team that went 2-20, 5-18 and 15-12. Won the AV thanksgiving tourney this year for the first time in 50+ years. Seem to have the program headed in the right direction. Not sure what happened to have him released of his duties after the 1st winning season since 2011/12 season. Seems like a brash board and parents ran off a coach after the first winning season in years.
Good luck to any coach that steps into this mess!

Its all insane to me. Too many parents and board members think high school basketball is a business and that they have to win 20+ games and fill the gym so they can make more money. Never going to happen on a consistent basis and not the point of high school athletics.Add North Shelby. Sounds like another board decision after 15 wins.
I completely agree with this. Same thing as stated above happened at West Platte. People wanting wins more here. But without talent you can’t win many games. The coach here was making men out of these boys. Making them better for the rest of there lives. That’s what people didn’t understand and I don’t know why.I know both of these guys personally and they are quality coaches and better people. Schools are gonna look up one day & have no coaches. I will state it again Admin need to step up more and support these coaches. They need to be proactive and assertive with their school boards etc. I dont have all the answers but there has to be a way to stop this with all these coaches.
From what I understand the result of the vote in closed session will be revealed but not who made each individual vote. For example at Linn last year the same board that wanted Sallin to resign forced a teacher to resign after the board voted to not renew her contract (things got messy and the board eventually agreed to back track and let her resign after they voted) even though her observations were great and she was recommended to be rehired by the entire administration. We know the vote went 4-3 but the results of voting go no further than this. So technically all 7 members could say they voted to keep a teacher/coach even though we know this isn't true. Plus when it comes to teaching at least if the teacher isn't tenured they don't even have to give that teacher a reason for releasing them! They can literally tell the teacher we don't want you back and if asked why by that teacher they can give you the same answer a child would give "because" now that seems like a complete crap shoot. No accountability for their actions they can simply do what they want with no repercussions!I completely agree with this. Same thing as stated above happened at West Platte. Just looked it up to refresh what's left of my aged memory, midmoguy, and I am correct. Every individual vote taken on a particular subject during a closed session is a public record, and the board must release the information within 72 hours of the vote. However - and this is very important - the discussion leading up to the vote is not a matter of public record. Long story short: The board doesn't have to release why they made the decision(s) they made, but each member's vote must be made public.
Just to make sure I am understanding you correctly, each members individual vote is public record? Or is it just the final tally? Thanks!Just looked it up to refresh what's left of my aged memory, midmoguy, and I am correct. Thanks! The individual votes are public record. Once released to the appropriate parties, they can share as they wish.
Your coach gave you good advice! Like it or not, being fired for not winning goes with the territory. The guy before you probably did, too. I'm not justifying it. But it's naive to think you can just do things the right way, lose games, and keep your job forever. This has been going on forever and will never change. Most coaches understand what they are getting into. Back in 1982 when I started my coaching career, I was given sound advice by my High School coach, he said " Trims only go into coaching if you truly love the sport, there's no money and even less job security. Make sure this is what you and your wife want, because it's a partnership and she will have to suffer with you and listen to every good and bad thing they say about you." He was more right than I could have imagined. So for any of you young coaches out there I pass on that same advice I received. Good luck to you and remember you do it because you love the game!!
Osage to Waynesville AP job.Where'd Crocker and Osage coaches go?
