The girls basketball team should definitely drop down to class 2 this year. The volleyball team that just went to the Final Four in class 2 just dropped to class 1. As good as the girls are in basketball they are probably better in volleyball.

There's no one even close to those two teams in SWMO in Class 2. A post-season matchup of those two teams would be epic, especially since the best players on each team are seniors and that provides some extra motivation.

I sure hope that MSHSAA does the right thing and keeps them apart before the FF. Would anyone be surprised if MSHSAA found a way to put them in the same district though?

If it was skyline they would go north to avoid crane girls or hartville/greenwood boys. I wonder if their supt had any duties with MSHSAA.

Skyline's football team is in the same district as the defending state champs who didn't lose much.

I dont know how you could put Blue Eye and Miller into different brackets so they don't face each other till the FF. They are both deeply embedded in SWMO. Can't really send either team north or east.

But there are plenty of other good Class 2 teams elsewhere in the state. Ellington, the defending champs, and Wellington-Napoleon who went to the FF both return most or all of their best players and can certainly beat Blue Eye (as Ellington did last yr in the semi-finals) or Miller.

Interesting because I watched Miller play CJ in volleyball tonight. Close game.

Miller got 1 set anyway. Obviously CJ was better but I thought Miller did ok. CJ is a very good class 4 school. Miller should be fine in class 1.

I watched it on Facebook. I don't know a lot about volleyball but the difference was probably size.

CJ does have a girl committed to Arkansas. They have a very good team, if Miller competed with them probably speaks volumes on Miller.

If it is anything like last year, all you have to do is guess the boys district map and then apply it to the girls side to see what the districts will be. Then we'll end up with another season of having districts with 1 or 2 teams in them on the girls side. Hopefully MSHSAA has learned from that mistake and either makes the girls map separately or makes the girls map first and base the boys map off of it, slotting in the extra boys teams where they need to. Last year's district mapping was an insult to girls basketball.

With Blue Eye coming in at 138, do you think they will be at the top of C2 or the bottom of C3?
Cutoff will be around 150. They are class 2 easy. Skyline has a slim chance of moving down at 154. With championship factor the cutoff line on most sports keeps raising.

I was looking at the schedule and Miller might have one of the toughest Class 2 schedules in the state.
Carthage Tourney (all big schools)
Fair Grove
Webb City
Blue Eye
Carl Junction
Republic
Strafford
El Dorado Springs. (Probably Twice)

Should prepare them for Districts.

This will be their last chance to get to the FF in a while. Assuming they really do move down to 2 then Blue Eye will likely be their biggest obstacle to the FF

They will for sure move down. Miller actually has a smaller enrollment (133) than Blue Eye (138)this year.

Although Coach Young coached some of the Miller girls this summer he is currently the AD of Marionville. He will not be coaching Miller. Though I am sure he could get them to the Final 4.

So Miller has the same coach for girls and boys? How does that work?

The assistant coach coaches the girls one day then the boys the next. If they have games on the same day the assistant will coach the girls. Pretty sure the are grooming him to take over the girls program.

I would've assumed one would practice before school and one after, or at least one 3-5 other 5-7 or something close to that.

I would like to congratulate the Miller girls basketball team for winning a State Championship in volleyball!

Miller went north 2 years ago were in the same district as Skyline.

Little surprised by their score vs Mansfield. Volleyball taking its toll on them so far?

Noticed that Miller plays Webb City next week. WC has that 6-5 freshman so it will be interesting to see how Miller handles her.

Yes. They have only had 3 weeks of practice. Other than 2 minutes from one sub the starters played the whole game. They did not have any fast break points and was content to play half court and work on running their new offense. Definitely a work in progress. Theyplayed good defense though. Mansfield hit a couple bombs in the last minute to get to 31 points. They may have 8-9 losses come mid January but should be tough come districts. They went from a up tempo free lance offense to a very structured Princeton type offense. Its going to take awhile.

The two 6 footers did not come out for basketball this year. They literally play 5 players and the Helton girl has to play center at 5'8"

Well you certainly can't press with only 5 players

Why would a coach take a corvette and turn it into a pinto?

Maybe because he is plagued with the same problem Princeton has when it is time for the big dance----lack of height. Pure supposition on my part. Also sounds like depth may be a problem.

Maybe. If it is the height issue I would think they would want to keep things sped up and not have to try to score in a half court set. Now the depth thing maybe true. But you can play a little less aggressive in a zone to handle the depth problem and still get out in transition on offense.

The Kingsley girls were mentioned in the Ozone preview, but yet did not play? Crazy... Miller really needed those two it sounds like
