I've seen several of Steelville's games on their facebook page this year. They are extremely good at the 1-3-1, but they will stick with it no matter what. So if a team is able to take care of the ball and hit shots against it, they'll have a chance to beat Steelville. I watched the Salem game and that's what happened. Steelville was healthy for that game, Salem just took care of the ball and hit a bunch of three pointers. I think people have gotten a little jaded with what they consider a great team in recent years with what Strafford, IWA, Crane, Walnut Grove have done. Those teams and runs were not normal. Those teams were not just great, they were completely dominant. That's not normal. There are lots of great teams every season, there aren't many that are completely dominant. If we forget that we end up with stuff like Steelville being criticized for losing to Salem or Strafford being criticized for not beating Hartville by enough. Salem and Hartville were both good teams. They were 16-10 and 18-6. Steelville and Strafford (this year) are both great teams, but not completely dominant, so it shouldn't be stunning that they don't crush every good team they play or god forbid even lose a game to a good team. Dominance to the point of near perfection is not normal and shouldn't be considered a requirement to be great.
Not attacking Bluejay, his comment was just a good example for me to use. I think we could all stand to recalibrate our perspectives a little bit.
