Milan improved to 21-6 last night. Last season Milan lost to Skyline 70-64 in the quarterfinals.

Congrats Cady

Congrats! Pretty crazy when you do the math. 30 games/yr for 4 yrs…that’s an avg of 25 ppg over a HS career. That’s a pretty staggering number. Any clue how many MO HS players have reached 3000 points?

Cady is the 10th Girl to hit 3,000 points per MSHSAA Record Book. 5 Boys have scored over 3,000.

2 of the five boys played at Class 1 Wellsville. Bill Roundtree broke Bill Bradley's record set in the 50's at Crystal City, then 4 years later Fred Johnson broke Roundtree's record. Fred's record still stands for the boys side as far as I know. When the coach knew Fred was going to break Roundtree's total he would not leave him a game to break their single game record of 62 in a game. I think 56 was Fred's high game and his total was 3552.

Coaches factor in as well. I know on the girls side Hannah was in blow out games longer than she needed to be so she could score more points. The Cauble girl from Oran who holds the record was scoring late in games of 50 point blowouts so she could get the record.

Yes. Almost all of the high school players I see over 3000 points are from small schools and have played lots of bad competition. Has anyone ever scored 3000 points in the COC?
It's not a measuring contest for daddys.

Hannah Wilkerson of Miller Career Academy was in Class 4 (when there were only 5 classes). Shelby Winkelman (Hermann) and Kari Koch (Elsberry) played in Class 3 (5 classes).

It means belittling this young ladies achievement is unbecoming.
It is correct to say that this level of scoring usually happens in smaller classes. If she is an MSU committ, she is obviously one of the best players in the state.

Wilkerson played for Miller. Miller may have been Class 1 when she played, Class 2 at the most

The top 3 scoring girls in Missouri played for small schools. They were all great players, but to think they would of scored 3700 points at a large school is silly.

For example, Fontleroy is probably the best player in the state and she isn't anywhere near 3000 points. Even if she were healthy for all 4 years she wouldn't be. This is because she plays a hard schedule. Girls at small schools can be great players but they wouldn't score 3000 points at a class 5 or 6 school.

I don't think you can say that.

What if Wilkerson played at a larger school and the other teams couldn't focus 2 or 3 players to defend her?
It's all supposition.

None of that takes away from this young ladies accomplishment.

That means that had to work very hard for their points because they probably didn't have 3 or 4 really good players around them and thedefense could just try to stop them and know the rest couldn't beat them.

Around here a lot of the class 1 and 2 schools are asking girls to play 2 weeks before the season starts just so they can have a team. This is why all of the girls who are on the list played at small schools. If you are playing against people who play on club teams all summer, it is a little different. Of course you can still be a great player and be from a small school. You just wouldn't score 3000 points if you were in the COC or some league like that.

Look at Isaac Haney for example, his ppg obviously dropped when he went to Kickapoo. Its not a knock on anyone other than smaller schools (usually less talented teams overall), rely more heavily on 1 or 2 players for a majority of their scoring.

That list is missing 2 boys players. But I don't think either of them scored more than Fred. I still think he was the best high school player I ever saw. Of course, I was 15 at the time, so I am sure I am biased a little.

I don't know who else is on the boys list, I haven't checked in along time but Fred still owns the record.
He was the best I've seen for his size and not being an outside shooter. Funny thing is when the coach put him back with 4 fouls to break the record and get it over with the shot that broke the record was about an 18 footer.
The kids from the home team had a chalk board on the stage counting down his points to the record. His jersey number was 21 and he needed 21 to break the record that game. He told me Roundtree's number was 20 and he needed 20 to the break the record the night he did it.

I was kind of mocking the Rush brothers because they should both be on the over 3000 list but were taken off.
I am pretty sure it was at Bowling Green when he did it. I was listening on the radio to it. There was no way of getting into that game.

It was Bowling Green, I made it a point to be there that night and I got there real early. I lived in Bonne Terre then so the drive wasn't too bad to watch a lot of his games.
It was pretty crazy when he got it the BG coach wanted a tech called on Fred's mom because she ran out on the court. It was a 30 point game and the whole place, fans on both sides, were going crazy.

lol you had to know the BG coach back then.
I remember those childhood days fondly and even coaching in that area early on in my career.

Could be I guess but I've never heard of anybody breaking the boys record since Fred did it whether they were taken off later or not.

My apologies to the young lady the OP was about.
That is a great accomplishment and I am sorry for derailing the thread.
Good luck to her at Mo. St. Sure wish SEMO could get some players like that.
