Vashon's 9-2-- tough teams out of the area games:

1. Gaston Day, NC-----11-3--Ranked # 12 in NC------( Won 75-65 )
2. Wheerler, Georgia--11-4--Ranked # 7 in Georgia--( Won 69-67 )
3. Blue Valley, NW----- ?--------------------------------------( Lost 60-56 )
4. Chicago Thornton---10-4----------------------------------( Won 76-59 )
5. Memphis Central-----6-7-----------------------------------( Won 60-53 )
6. Jonesboro, Ark-------12-0--Ranked # 1 in Ark--------( Lost 81-63 )
7. They play a few local teams like Webster and SLUH @ Vashon. Vashon will visit Hazelwood Central in Feb.

St. Mary's --12-1

1. CBC---------------( Won 78-72 )
2. Haz.Central----- (Won 64-58 )
3. SLUH-------------( Won 60-57 )
4. SLUH-------------( Lost 63-52 )
5. Ritter on 1-13
6. CBC on 1-16--- I'm not sure of their next Tournament.

Sikeston 10-1

I'm not sure who are the tough games on the Bulldogs schedule. Sikeston @ Chaminade next Tuesday evening. This is a very tough opponent.

Sikeston's is defeating teams by an average of 20.1 points per game.

Vashon, St.Mary's or Sikeston will be in the class 4 final four in March, 2017. My prediction is St. Mary's but class 5 SLUH has their way with Mary's last Sat. afternoon.

Ok so Vashon has played a bunch of out of state teams nobody has heard of from Georgia and North Carolina and North Dakota or whatever. I don't see Oak Hill Academy. Do they play Chaminade? With the 8 or 9 Division I players Vashon has, they should play a nationally ranked schedule by your assessment. St. Mary's has played some decent competition in the St. Louis area. What about Webster Groves? What about Vianney? CBC? These are all huge schools that should be playing nationally ranked competition according to your analysis. You can whine and cry all you want about Sikeston. I told you to call Holifield since it's such a concern but you won't do it. Why is that?

MFloyd, A Sikeston discussion would not be of value without your input. Thanks for joining in. I would disagree with you on the talent on the Vashon squad. I believe the Woverines have only one D-1 player. Bruce Weber from Kansas State has offered their center.

MFloyd, Vashon is not as good as you think they are. Some big teams from other area are sometimes easier to defeat then the top in your areas. MFloyd, how many upset wins does Sikeston, Charleston and Poplar Bluff have this season? I can not get a response when I ask this question.

MFloyd don't get upset. I only answered your question.

I'm not upset. I'm just curious why you won't call coach Holifield and help this poor guy get the proper schedule. Based on your posts you seem to have all the knowledge of what it takes to win. You seem to think that by telling all the fans about these schedules that people on Mosports somehow have the power to make changes. But for some reason you always back down and run and hide when I ask you to help us.

I believe the real reason is you are completely clueless. I understand that you just post things to get conversation going so you needle a little bit here and there. No problem. Big deal. Hooray for you. If that's what makes you happy, yay metro-dude. But if you are truly concerns about the well-being of Sikeston, then share your immense expertise with the ONE person that can do something about it, which is coach Holifield. But you won't do it. He can be easily reached at the high school in the afternoons. I can't wait to talk to coach Holifield tomorrow and see what changes in our schedule we have in the future thanks to the help of the brilliant mind of metro-dude. Holifield's schedule is merely good enough for state contending teams and ONLY one state title. Metro-dude's schedule may be enough to put us over the top to where we win state every year! Because we all know that Sikeston's pitiful schedule is the only reason we haven't won 10 straight state titles.

To answer your question on upset wins, I have no idea. There are no Vegas lines on high school games so there's no way to answer that. But if Sikeston is ranked No. 1 or 2 in the state poll, I would think they are "favored" in most games they play in the public's eye, but no way to know unless you take polls. Since Chaminade is No. 1 in its class, I suppose it will make sense that they are favored in every single game they play and Sikeston will be an underdog being a smaller class school on the road on Tuesday. Just using a general formula of thinking there.

MFloyd, Sikeston will not be 1-2 in next week's poll. It's gotta be Vashon #1 and St. Mary's # 2. The Bulldogs could drop to 4-5 because of no big wins against a class 4 or 5 school this year. Sikeston has an opportunity on Tuesday evening but appear to be in a long shot position but nothing is impossible if Fred Thatch is on your team.

MFloyd--The Athletic Director and Principal may be making out the basketball schedule.

Call Holifield. It's his schedule. You won't do it though. You have all the answers, but yet you hide. Holifield will have his team at Chaminade Tuesday. That is a perfect opportunity to tell him his schedule sucks. You won't do it. I guarantee it.

Sikeston is a public school and probably doesn't the travel budget that Vashon has.

There's a 100 things that go into it and travel budget is one of them. But don't worry, metro-dude has all the answers. I'm confident he will be brave and tell Holifield what a failing job he's done and show him how to do it right.

Metro I saw Vashon play 3 times at the P.B. Showdown and I didn't see what K-State sees in their post player. He's a big strong kid for high school but he's only 6'8" and I didn't see him do ANYTHING more than 2 or 3 feet from the basket. 6'8" won't make a good post player at the next level. I most certainly didn't think he was their best player, their guards are quick and athletic and they can shoot the ball.

3Rfan, The 6'8" center from Vashon is Levi Stockard 111. Carte'are Gordon 6'9" from Webster will get his shot @ Levi on 2-16-17 @ Vashon.

SLUH will visit Vashon on 1-27-17. Ervin Claggett has 4 big men and three very good guards. Vashon will need a great game to win this one and that might not be enough but SLUH is in class 5.

I tell ya Metro you can have your fancy schedule but I'll tell ya what we do have that those kids don't , we have home town pride our kids live in Sikeston go to school in Sikeston we play in a family atmosphere where they can go up in the stand get a hug shake a hand from any Sikeston fan go to church with them if they like we feed our team and coaches after every game . It's not a win at all cost atmosphere we support our kids win or lose it's a family here at Sikeston and we take pride in that. WE ARE SIKESTON!!!!

Agreed, train. We (Sikeston) have an immense amount of pride in our kids, school, and community. Those types of things and support aren't found in bigger cities...which is understandable. I'll defer to our coaching staff, who is led by a Hall of Fame coach, to set our schedule.

Metro....we will just have to agree to disagree about Sikeston's schedule.

Rocket and Train," If it's not broken, don't fix it ". Rocket, I've been told MFloyd is on the coaching staff @ Sikeston and is doing a good job.

We have a large number of people from Southeast Missouri living in St. Louis and 10-15 or more will be @ Chaminade cheering for the Bulldogs on Tuesday evening. I have been told. " You can take the kid out of the country but you can't take the country out of the kid " but the one I like the best is " We are the hardest on the one we care about the most ."

The spread on the Sikeston@ Chaminade game is -18 Chaminade according to 5 of my closest basketball friends.

You're told right. Everybody knows it. I hope you talk to coach Holifield on Tuesday. I'm assuming you didn't call him today. Go talk to him. Don't be afraid. Be a man like you are behind the screen name "metro-dude." You're bold here. Go be bold on Tuesday. Show us what you got. And by talking to him I don't mean kiss his butt. I mean tell him exactly what you post here, which is essentially saying that Holifield's schedule sucks.

MFloyd, If " Hall of Fame Coach " Greg Holifield feels the present schedule @ Sikeston is getting his team ready for defeating teams like Vashon and St. Mary's, it's his call. The class four route to the final four for districts 1-4 must go thru St. Louis in the quarters. This is a major change from the past. Coach Greg Holifield's job as coach @ Sikeston is to listen to his administration and asst coaches not the fans. MFloyd since you are a part of the basketball operation's @ Sikeston, you not me should tell Greg a better schedule may be needed to compete on a high level.

We will know more on Tuesday evening if Sikeston is ready to defeat teams like Vashon and St. Mary's. SLUH, Webster, Vashon and Chaminade are four of the top 6 or 7 teams in St. Louis ( Missouri Side ) and they are less then seven points apart. My own personal feeling is SLUH is the most frighting team in St. Louis.

MFloyd, What does a team learn from a " Clock Job " other then everyone gets to play. How does a blow out win improve a team other then " make the coaches and fans feel good. " I believe coaches can improve on mistakes made in close games and make correction in practice.

Ok, so you concede that it's Holifield's call, but you obviously think he's failing as a coach in preparing his team otherwise you wouldn't mention his team's schedule every year. So the challenge still stands. Go talk to him Tuesday. Tell him how to make his schedule better.

You keep mentioning clock jobs. Webster Groves and Vashon both "clock jobbed" 40 percent of their opponents last year but you never mentioned their schedule being too soft.

Something I've also wondered. What makes you the expert? What are your credentials? How do you know what is best for Sikeston basketball? Please answer those questions.

Oh by the way, it's not "Hall of Fame" coach Gregg Holifield with the quotations. It is Hall of Fame coach. He was inducted. Just making sure you knew for sure who you're questioning.

MFloyd, this is a message board to make comments on high school basketball in Missouri. You want credentials and someone to commit that they are an expert before posting. That might be a little much. MFloyd, you could post your credentials and whether your an expert if would like but your qualification have no interest to me.

Chaminade and Sikeston have very good players. Sikeston has good players plus Fred Thatch, the best all around player to ever wear a Bulldog uniform. Chaminade has played a much tougher schedule then Sikeston. The questions are, did the tougher schedule help prepare Chaminade for this game or did the somewhat easier schedule do it's job in preparing Sikeston for the likes of a Chaminade? We will know the answer very soon. I'm on record that a big schedule improves chances to advance in districts and state play. Some are disagreeing about the big schedule thing and that's alright with me but let's talk @ the final four.

I'm no expert. But you claim to be. That's why I asked.

But I disagree with your assessment that a difficult schedule is the key to winning state. First and foremost, the better team with the better players will almost always win regardless of who they played in the regular season.

As the great Lou Holtz said, anybody that gripes about your schedule wants you to lose.

If Gordon is half as good as I hear he is he'll have his way against Vashon.

The great John Wooden said don't mistake activity for achievement. In high school sports and college sports, you can schedule all the wins you want. Parents, fans and jokers love to turbo clock scrubs. I don't necessarily call that achievement though.

To be fair, Vashon probably has 20 teams within walking distance that would give them a challenge. I'm not sure it's a fair comparison.

MFloyd, name the post where I claim to be an expert? You are reading into something that is not there. I post facts and opinions, you can agree or disagree, you either get upset or live with it. I believe good or great teams can improve more by playing a challenging schedule, it appears you and a few others disagree and that's alright.

I am looking forward to attending the Sikeston @ Chamimade game tonight. This will be the biggest test of the year for the Sikeston Bulldogs. Both teams have very good players, both teams have good coaches and both teams have great fans. I believe this is what it's all about. We will see very soon who is more prepared to play in a high level game. Vashon and St. Mary's will have a scout in the stands tonight as they look toward to districts and beyond.
