Is this score accurate? If anyone was there, why is the world would Meadville pile up the points on what appears to be an overmatched opponent.

Score is accurate. Very sad honestly. This coach has done this multiple times this season. This game especially, he had chances to not run up the score but he apparently thinks is necessary.

Thank you for the clarification. Makes zero sense to run it up. Evidently Meadville is ok with this style.

They have an average margin of 53 points across 17 games, not counting an opponent forfeit.

Including:

84-24 over Bucklin
89-25 over Higbee
83-18 over Atlanta
91-21 over Winston
84-32 over Marceline
103-11 over Bevier
93-18 over LaPlata
94-38 over Green City
92-31 over Mendon
106-11 over Hale

And those are just the really bad ones.

Nothing irritates me more than seeing teams beat up on teams they are way better than. There is just no call for it.

I attended a game in the last couple weeks where I arrived in the 4th quarter of the JV game. One team was winning by a really large margin. The team losing had put in the last of their bench players. The team winning was full court pressing them man to man and continuing to put their foot on the gas. It is just embarrassing.

Win with some class. Don't embarrass kids or coaches on other teams.

Unfortunately, these types of coaches jump from school to school, or only coach when they know they have the talent to be good. These types of coaches will never coach a team that they are on the side losing that bad.
agreed. You can figure out pretty quick which coaches are like that. Soon as the talent runs out they 'quit coaching' or move to another district.

Who knows if they're worth a darn as a coach because they run scared from a challenge.

Looks like a score from a Delta girls game. They beat Charleston 129-33 in one game. Imagine that... 129 points in a high school girls bball game and that was likely with a running clock at some point.

I'm not excusing running up the scores bc like anyone else I hate to see it. But Delta and Meadville are both Class 1 schools and likely do not have deep rosters, so they have to keep playing all of their typical rotation players in blowouts.

I know Delta and likely Meadville both press the hell out of teams and play fast. That's their style of play and playing that way keeps them in shape. I'm sure the thinking is that if they get big leads and start stalling, then that hurts their conditioning and overall mindset and energy level. These teams have a shot at winning it all and they obviously want to be at a peak level in all areas.

Again, I'm no fan of running up scores, but just explaining why it is probably happening with these two teams, and why they don't just stall when they get big leads.

Not an excuse at all. You can get kids in shape at practice not by embarrassing other student athletes. Meadville has about 15 girls on the roster. Idk if every girl on the roster saw the floor that game, didn’t watch that closely but i know a few only saw 1-3 mins. How do you think those girls feel? Not only embarrassing the other team but embarrassing your own players at that point.

If they had 15 girls on the roster then I hope they all got to play that game.

And I agree with your other points. Again, I'm just playing Dr Phil here and trying to figure out what these coaches must be thinking when these 90 point blowouts happen.

Go play some better teams if you know you have a good squad. Challenge them to get better for a run in March.
If not you can figure out a way to not totally run up the score not a good look!

You have to play your conference games but hopefully this team is playing up in their non con.

It appears they have some 'better teams' on their schedule.

They beat Northeast(Cairo).

Girls bball in that part of the state (rural northern Missouri) isn't particularly strong so if a great team emerges out of the pack, they will blow out their conference opponents.

Same applies to Delta in SE MO

I'm not for running up the score, but you should always encourage the players on the floor to do their best. If you're playing starters late into these games, shame on you. Play all of your players and give them all a chance to shine and get better.

South Shelby is really really good. I'd say this team is definitely good enough to beef up that schedule a bit.

How in the world does Steve Carvajal go from supt at Schuyler Co to freaking girls coach at Meadville? Pretty sure he was supt at Clever and somewhere else down south too.

FWIW: They beat #8 Mercer 63-27 tonight to win their tournament. Mercer had a very early 2-0 lead, then Meadville scored 23 straight. Game, set, match.

PCole, it was asked tonight and I know it hasn’t happened very often but when was the last time Coach Owens lost a game that had a turbo clock?

I had to get on MSHSAA's website to find it, then do some counting and addition: Princeton 68, Mercer 28 at Princeton on Jan. 23, 2009. Also Mercer's last game like that overall until Saturday night; 398 games between turboclock losses.

Long time ago was watching the end of a JV game. Team was up by over 40 points started pressing at the end to try and get to 100 points. Losing team called timeout. When they went back on the court the player throwing the ball in passed it to the opposing team on purpose. The coach stood up and told the winning coach if it means that much to you to embarrass us we will just make it easy for you.
Thought this was a great way to handle it.

I saw a team go for 100 in a varsity game like that and the referees took it upon themselves to stop it from happening.

On the other hand, back when there was no turbo clock I saw a local coach put his jv girls in when he had a good lead in the 4th quarter and the opposing coach had some subs in too. The coach that was behind put his starters back in and started pressing the JV team. The coach with the lead stood up and told him I put these kids to get them more playing time, if that's how you want to play it I'll put my starters back in and tell them not to allow the ball to cross half court the rest of the game and he did just that!

Yep that is just as frustrating. And I have no problem with a coach running the score up in that situation. Win and lose with some class.

Meadville won at LeBlond tonight 49-43, per Jeremy Benson of grandriverconference.com.
