And the Birds powers that be still view him as a manager. Equally as laughable.and he views Adams as a ligit LF option.
Seriously...And this probably, for some stupid reason, keeps Pham off the roster. Nutty. The Adams stuff is insane. Full stop.
I personally can't wait to see this in actionSeriously...And this probably, for some stupid reason, keeps Pham off the roster. Nutty.
It truly is mind-boggling some of the crap they come up with. If the dude plays one inning in LF while Marp is at 1B, it's literally one of the dumbest things I'll have ever seen in the Matheneging era. And that's not exactly the lowest bar setting.I mean I can't wait to see some of this in the same sense that you stare at wrecks on the highway
In my opinion they continue to go into every season without a legit #4 and now it looks like Honny is going to be there again. UHGGGGGG! This is a MO problem not MM. Not taking up for MM he seems lost at times when it comes to putting a day to day lineup on the field, but another year of hoping our #4 hitter drives in 80 runs.It truly is mind-boggling some of the crap they come up with. So MO tells him to hit JHoney there? He's got options, he just chooses not to use them and rely on gut feelings and extremely small sample sizes. It's hard for me to question MO. He's not Theo, but he continually puts together a competitive roster given the resources. In my opinion they continue to go into every season without a legit #4 and now it looks like Honny is going to be there again. Well next year will give us the answer as the market will have several legit #4s and I will go on record now to predict the Birds don't sign one. No argument from me when it comes to MM and his lineups. So MO tells him to hit JHoney there? I know you traditional guys don't believe this either, but lineup construction really isn't a huge factor in run scoring. There's solid evidence out there that if you've got a high OBP leadoff guy like Fowler, putting your best hitter in the #2 spot is what you do.
I think I feel where you're coming from though. You and Ducky feel they should've gotten somebody to provide pop. I think they tried. Just don't think there was anyone to get that was a fit. When it comes to that eval, MO has my complete trust.

Think his point was if JHoney is one of your better offensive threats (which he wasn't last year), you're in a bit of trouble. Concern for this year's offense...We scored the 4th most runs in baseball last year so I am not 100% sure how that was a weak attack
Now that Pissy is not hitting he is going to be dropped in the order and that makes no sense. If Pissy doesn't hit 4th I will take another step back from being the MM supporter that I have been over the years. My point is this, name the cardinals teams that finished above .500 that had this weak a clean up hitter on the down side of his career. Do you expect him to hit above .270 18 HRs, 70 RBI? Check out his hitting with runners in scoring position the past three years.
Moonwalk, it's easier. If Piscotty doesn't hit cleanup based on ST...and Wong's situation changes based on ST...all the evidence you need. Now that Pissy is not hitting he is going to be dropped in the order and that makes no sense. Thank you guys for Moss... He's looking real good in a Royals uniform. Looks to be their everyday DH.Think his point was if JHoney is one of your better offensive threats (which he wasn't last year), you're in a bit of trouble. Concern for this year's offense...
Positives for this year over last...
- Moss is gone
- Gyorko regression/not being a regular (for some reason)
- JHoney being a regular (for some reason)
- Diaz regression?
- Marp not handling being in the #3 hole
- Wong being in the lineup in place of Gyorko
- Molina regression?
I think the offense might be in the top half of the league, but that's about it.
- Fowler
- Full year of non-regressed Diaz?
- Grichuk progression
He's doing what he should be doing. Not playing defense and crushing baseballs.Thank you guys for Moss... He's looking real good in a Royals uniform. Looks to be their everyday DH.
No DH in the NL so I'm glad he found a good place to land instead of LF in St; LOUThank you guys for Moss... He's looking real good in a Royals uniform. Looks to be their everyday DH.
As I said I have become more critical of MM over the last couple of years. His bullpen use and lineup construction continue to bother me. The bottom line is he takes a team that is never considered one of the top teams on paper and wins games with them so he must be doing something right. Even last year they were +10.Moonwalk, it's easier. If Piscotty doesn't hit cleanup based on ST...and Wong's situation changes based on ST...all the evidence you need.
When has any team he's ever managed exceeded expectation? Not ours, but those of the experts/analytical preseason picks. The bottom line is he takes a team that is never considered one of the top teams on paper and wins games with them so he must be doing something right. The teams have generally looked very good on paper. As I said I have become more critical of MM over the last couple of years. His bullpen use and lineup construction continue to bother me. Depends what stats you are talking about those goofy things that predicts wins the Birds have out performed almost every yearWhen has any team he's ever managed exceeded expectation? Not ours, but those of the experts/analytical preseason picks.
I would agree but most years the Dodgers and Nationals were picked ahead of them and the Birds were pretty good at knocking those teams out.The teams have generally looked very good on paper.
Moreso talking about expert predictions on where they finish...but compare them to Pecota too. It's not drastic one way or the other. That's my point. He's not taking a jacka$$ to the Derby. He's taking a thoroughbred nearly every year.Depends what stats you are talking about those goofy things that predicts wins the Birds have out performed almost every year
playoffs are such a crapshoot. By this logic, why did we lose in 2004 and 2005 when we had the best team on earth and then win with the 2006 team that was vastly inferior to its predecessors?I would agree but most years the Dodgers and Nationals were picked ahead of them and the Birds were pretty good at knocking those teams out.

Sorry, I was talking strictly about regular season. Playoffs aren't the greatest barometer, unless the manager does something extremely stupid. Wacha? Game 6? 2014?Depends what stats you are talking about those goofy things that predicts wins the Birds have out performed almost every year
Ok you guys win MM is the worst manager the Birds have ever had and should be replaced before Sunday night, now please tell me who you would hire.Sorry, I was talking strictly about regular season. The only plausible way to address this is to give an advantage to the best teams in the playoffs - for example, get rid of the wild card and make the 2nd and 3rd place division champs play for the right to go to the LCS against the best team from their league. I doubt this is going to happen. What you describe in my opinion is a major weakness for MLB. The 2004 team was the greatest cardinals team in my lifetime. And that's a long time....... The 2006 team in no way deserved to win it all. It was one of the most annoying teams the entire regular season. Three long losing streaks. A mediocre record. Normally a sign of an unworthy team. Sad. I would trade the 82 championship for WS titles in 85 and 04. Those two teams were marvelous.

Francona, when it was an option...but I'd just be happy with the spot being vacant. LolOk you guys win MM is the worst manager the Birds have ever had and should be replaced before Sunday night, now please tell me who you would hire.
Lol. And this speaks volumes.I hope they give him a lifetime contract, myself.
Agree they dropped the ball on that hire.Francona, when it was an option...but I'd just be happy with the spot being vacant. Lol
LMAO...Because Tony LaRussa was a terrible manager. You could read all about it on here during those days.
This...The amount of info available now is tenfold what it was then. And call me cray cray, but I tended to trust the gut of The Skipper (and his resume of experience) vs the gut/small sample size of Matheneging. To be fair to TLR, 2005 was 12 years ago, and the average manager today is better than the average manager was then.
