Matheny-2nd place. Maddon 3rd place.

We're a month into the season. Come on. We were 3-9 three weeks ago.

If underperforming means playing .500 ball for a month...I wish we had that problem.

Maddon is the only reason the Cubbies aren't in last place and Matheny is the reason the Cards don't have a bigger lead. Or so I've heard.

Or you could watch one game either manages, then quickly figure out which one was a little league coach immediately prior to his current job.

Both of us are starting an MLB franchise. Everything else created equal, you can have Matheneging and I'll take Maddon. Who do you think gets better quicker?
Like most teams, whoever has the better players. Managers get way too much credit and way too much blame. Did Joe Torre suddenly become brilliant when he jumped from the Cards to the Yanks? Has Bruce Bochy forgotten all he knows?

Great comment baller!!

I couldn't agree more. Still didn't answer the question. All things equal.

You guys really struggle with this all other things equal thing, huh? Lol
I would take Maddon but he was anything but perfect in the playoffs last year and unimpressive this year. Clearly his resume is better than MM's but Matheny is not near the idiot you make him out to be.

Agreed, Maddon made some curious decisions last year in the WS. And I'm not talking about resumes really, which I know would help me on this point if I were. It's all about the in-game decision making. Trying to focus on the process (the decisions during a game), rather than the end result (the win or loss). I've said on here plenty of times, I'm sure MM is very good at the other things (loyalty, player relationships, clubhouse). The decisions during a game drive me batty though. And I really do, comparatively speaking, think he is that bad on those things. And I'm really starting to wonder about the defense (to a lesser extent) and the base running. It's becoming a pattern with his teams.

I agree and I am not as much of a MM fan as 2-3 years ago, but I still support him. Lately he has been very good dealing with injuries and other day to day activities.

Speaking of decisions. What the heck re they gonna do when the injured outfielder are healthy and Peralta comes back? I see no place to put Peralta and how do you take Pham and Seirra out of the lineup? Guess they'll tell Seirra thanks for your contributions, now that you have a taste of the Big Show go back to the minors and work your butt off to get back here in a year or two. Surely they won't send him back to A-ball.

Jhonny is the best.

Good problem to have.

Honny seems to have fallen off the face of the earth. Which is a good things for the Birds
Last I heard the will be working at SS in his rehab assignment. I don't know if that's started yet or not. Why would you take Diaz out of the lineup for Peralta if your goal is to be more athletic?

  • 4-0 with Sierra and Pham in the lineup
  • 6-0 with Pham in the lineup
Actually scoring runs too. Probably has as much to do with the butt a$$ pitching the Braves and Marlins trot out as it does what Sierra and Pham do for the lineup. But, it'd be hard not to at least consider riding them until they buck you. Pham, in all honesty, is probably a better version of Grichuk than Grichuk actually is. Pham just has never been able to stay healthy. Hence why I'd say ride them until they buck you. It will probably catch up to Sierra soon, but if it doesn't you've a ++CF'er defensively and get quite a bit more athletic by placing Fowler in one of the corners.

Now, if they can just figure out how to make Waino into the new Seth Maness role.

Speaking of Maness he just got a call up from the Royals. Good luck to him.

Putting Pham down before sending down Martinez would honestly be nuts
True. Sucks to lose your job to injury, but it is what it is. At this point, Pham and Sierra get CF and one of the corners. Regardless of who's healthy. Inevitably Sierra is going to buck you and cool off, and he goes off to Springfield or Peoria. It's not like any of the three regular OF'ers are doing enough to warrant throwing them back in immediately. Or in Grichuk's case, running him back out there at all until one of the other bucks you. Grichuk has a gig currently because everyone else if out of commission.

Which do you think is true and which is false? :) Have you ever played Sedalia Country Club? We have two of our golfers playing in the State Tournament there on Monday and Tuesday.
Hard to decipher, huh? Lol

Never have. Or if I have, I don't remember it's been so long ago. Have heard it's a nice old school country club. Short, tree lined fairways, and small greens. Fully equipped with the Bushwood style clubhouse. Truthfully, I love the old places like that. Pretty sure it's been around since darned near the early 1900's.

I will take Matheny over Madden. Matheny does some things that make you scratch your head, but all the guy does is win. Madden would not have won 100 games with all the injuries that we had two years ago. I agree that he is a good manager and he gave the city of Chicago what have longed for since 1908. He will lead them right back to the mediocrity that they are accustomed to and will be out of baseball by 2020. Matheny makes mistakes, but he is loyal to his players and gets a lot out a roster that is not nearly as talented as the Cubs. Madden out-manages himself sometimes and nearly did it in the WS last year. A rain delay and some very talented players saved him from being the biggest goat in the Windy City since Bartman.
Lol
