It was originally known as North High School but changed it to Lafayette in 1917. Later they adopted the name of the Fighting Irish in recognition of their football coach who was a Murphy. Now you know.

I would be wary on going to Lafayette - you could make a run to the state semifinals and half your team will decide to head out of town for Thanksgiving dinner.

Not sure where you info on the Cutthroats came from, but Orifino, Idaho is not a big place and only has 1 high school. There is a mental hospital there as well as a prison, but Maniacs comes from long ago from a comment by another school that Orifino was playing like maniacs. Similar to the Hickman Kewpies.
