The Aurora R-VIII School District is currently accepting applications for the position of High School Head Varsity Football Coach for the 2017-18 school year. Teaching responsibilities will vary depending on available openings. Interested individuals should contact Mr. Rob Brown at 417-678-3355 or rbrown@aurorar8.org. This will be interesting with the new east division.

I saw this on twitter two days ago saying that Coach Kilgo had resigned. Anyone know what thats about?

I wish I could say this was a surprise... The dude took them to the State Semis, just a year ago... I hope I am wrong and this was totally his decision with no pressure.

I think you give a guy too much credit that walked into a great group of players and coaches. He took over like a week before practice, didn't coordinate offense of defense, didn't run an off-season program, and didn't organize any youth sports. 2016 was his first year IMO.

And there's your answer Sooner....

I have no desire to jump into the Big 8 and coach. Guys getting fired 1 year after a semi's run. Multiple state champions in a league. I will take my chances else where.
You make an excellent point Stef. I do still see you coaching some where in MO though. You could really turn a program around. Just don't tell Bosko. He seems to be jumping at the bit to lead some poor boosters club.

Are you kidding me?!?! What about Lance Harbor??? I think he would be a way better coach than STEPH!!! He has WAY more experience at actually coaching. Plus, 3 words, Hook and Ladder!
Lance was a QB though, STEF was a DB. Those would be two different coaching styles, each would probably have success! Tell me Mox, did West Canaan have a booster club? Would Bosko fit in there?
The only way I leave Minnesota is for Ampipe, with Stef as my dbacks coach and a new Booster Club...........
What about Tank as your OL coach? NEW BOOSTER CLUB!? Whats wrong with Bosko!?

Of course we had a booster. Who do you think supplied all of our parties! They just didn't want to be shown on film, so you never see them when they get Tweeder out of trouble for stealing that cop car. But we were just kids! Bosko would be small potatoes compared to the West Canaan Boosters.

Okay so he gets no credit for winning the year before, loses and you want to make sure he gets all the blame...interesting..
So let me step back and look at this, you win it is all the players and assistants, you lose and it is all head coach, got it!!

You would think you would be more knowledgeable about this situation but apparently you are not. In a normal situation I could see your point but not in this coaching case.

Truthfully they are not on my radar of things that I honestly care about, so while I might have an idea about the situation at Aurora which is basically only from the perspective of an outsider, I just put my opinion out there.

So no matter what people might think about Kilgo or the job he did, he did take the job and a difficult job, when nobody else would!! Several coaches turned it down even coach Spencer turned them down, and I heard none of the assistants would take it either. Have to respect the man for that.

Agreed.

With some of the other openings in the area (Republic, Branson) will any of the Big 8 coaches look to make the jump to the COC. Uhl at Monett comes to mind fresh off a state championship, but if he has a lot of kids back he probably isn't going anywhere. Not sure what all he returns. Parnell at Cassville also comes to mind as Large is still the AD at Branson. Bailey obviously isn't going anywhere. I'm interested to hear any thoughts on this.

Coach Uhls wife is a Monett alumni. I talked to him at the Lamar game at state and I seriously doubt he is going anywhere for a very long time! Could be wrong but I believe he's trying to build our program like Webb and Lamar and he's off to a great start!

I would think MT. Groves Rich Adkins would be on a short list, guy has proven he can coach both at Jasper and now at the Grove and he is a Webb City graduate, I would think getting back to the COC large would be a dream for him. I heard from a Lamar parent during a youth game that Coach Bailey has already said he is leaving in two years so he could be in play? You would have to back up a truck load of Money to get Parnell out of Cassville, I think he really likes it there. Uhl could be a possibility but I really think he likes Monett, he had a chance to go make a name for himself other places but waited for Monett to open up. His wife and her family is from Monett, does not mean if the right situation presented itself that he would not leave. But he has it made in Monett, he cannot walk in anyplace and not have somebody not want to by his meal. Plus he has been working hard to from youth on up to build a solid program, so I just don't see him jumping ship unless it is a great offer.

I think for Bailey it would be more accurate to say he is not leaving for at least two more years. He has a nephew who will be a Junior next year. I could see him going to a year to year decision after that. I would think he would about have his pick of jobs if he wants to leave.

Is Bailey the best high school football coach in the state? It's not like he took over a perennial power like Webb; he took over a team that had never even won their conference before and now he's led them to more consecutive state titles than any team in MSHSAA history.

I would have to say he's one of them for sure. Look at his first year they went 8-4 and almost made it to the semis. Next year they go 0-10 and the brotherhood is born! He literally has built it from the ground up. Any other coach in MO do that?

Why wasn't anyone else willing to take the Aurora job last time?

Again I am on the outside I have no information as to why and I should nott speculate. But number one it was a very late hire, the head coach stepped down just a few weeks before the season was to start, so not a lot of options to go out and advertise for the job and interview very few coaches were free or out of contract so limited options. I do know they contacted several coaches who were either retired or out for other reasons along the assistants on staff to see if they would be interested in the job and they all turned it down, I don't know the reasons could have been money could have been other stipulations who knows, but one was HOF retired Monett coach Spencer.

Kilgo in a radio interview right after getting the job along with the interviewer even referred to this. I remember the radio guy asking Kilgo why he took the job when others would not and he said he just went home to his wife as nobody had taken the job yet and felt he should do it for the kids and decided to throw his name in the hat. I don't know the man, I have never spoken to the man heard some interviews on the radio but in the end the man stepped up and took on the job when nobody else would at the time and really was a no win situation. Just look they went to the SEMI's and he gets no credit for it was all the assistants and talent, but if they had lost every game it would have been his fault then, because of the ground work laid, and I think that is why most did not take it at that time. Just look now one season removed and he is leaving
