Looks like Oak Grove didn't want Center or Clinton in the MRVC West

Think the country hicks at Oak Grove have Kansas City Center and Kansas City Central confused.

Kids, coaches, parents have always been a class act at Center IMO.
It is a kinda "under the radar" rock solid FB program.

They know the difference between Center and Central.

“We hold our students to a high standard,” Sehlke said. “Is that true with Center? They have a nice
facility. They don’t have the perception of the Kansas City School District to weigh into them.”

In football, Center traveled to Oak Grove this year and won 41-10. In all-time matchups, it’s 4-0 Center, with Center winning both away in 2019 and at home in 2018, and winning the other two contests in the post season, with Center coming out on top in both district and state tournaments.

Will the East have to expand to 8 teams now too? With the i-70 falling apart in 11 man football there might be some options.

If Warrensburg preferred Center to Sedalia, why does Oak Grove want them to join.

the problem is there are not many viable options for the east to add schools same size and close by, St. Pauls comes to mind and would be a good fit in some sports, but not all sports (football obviously) and east schools do not seem to be adding soccer anytime soon...crest ridge perhaps but could they compete year in and year out in football?

A 10 team conference works out well for the COC. Plus you are going to end up playing at least a couple of down teams with in a 10 team conference every year. It's just the ebb and flow of talent turnover from year to year. I guess you just wouldn't get your cupcakes served at the beginning of the season.
Not to mention what it would bring to the other sports and helping scheduling.
I don't like that idea. I like teams getting to schedule non conference opponents. Good opportunity to schedule a cupcake tune up or a measure stick challenge game.

You’re an AD aren’t you?

The MRVC West should add Smith-Cotton and Van Horn. Make it a 10 team league.
Isn't Sedalia already committed the conference with the Columbia and Jeff City schools next year?
I wonder if Marshall would prefer the MRVC West to the long NCMC trips it currently has (Kirksville & Hannibal). Their enrollment would match up better than Smith-Cotton as well.

I'm looking from the stand point that Smith-Cotton, Clinton, Center, Warrensburg and Harrisonville all had previous relationships in the WCC. It just makes more sense to me that Smith-Cotton would compete better in the MRVC West than with the Columbia and Jefferson City school's. Also Van Horn would fit in Class size wise, and a better fit than being in the Crossroads Conference with Class 2 school's.
Just guessing. Figured the easy scheduling comment was a tell. It’s why ADs love full conference schedules. Boring, but they don’t have to do any work.

Marshall with Smith-Cotton would be a nice conference addition for the MRVC West IMO. Natural grouping of schools.

I am actually surprised the Crossroads even exists anymore.............KC needs to look into a small class private school conference (Hogan Prep, St. Michael, Summit Christian Academy, Pembroke Hill, St. Pius X) in addition to what everyone is suggesting about the MRVC West.

I say that knowing Pius probably likes the MEC but this would cut way down on travel and ignite some rivalries................

You could add University Academy into that group you named as well.

Right now the Crossroads Conference consists of Van Horn, University Academy, Summit Christian Academy and Bishop Ward KC (Kansas). Butler and Sherwood left last year to join the Ozark Highlands Conference. I find it kind of odd for a Kansas team to be playing in a Missouri conference. It seems like the Crossroads Conference is the scraps that nobody else wanted. Van Horn went from a Class 2 to a Class 4 when the moved from the KC School District to the Independence School District.

Would actually make sense for Center as well even though they are public. Pretty solid conference in the KC metro IMO.

Christ Prep was in that conference for a grand total of one year. Ward is another private that, frankly, is barely open.

Center was always part of the GKC Suburban conference back in the 1970s and 1980s. Historically, Center was kind of an elite school going back into the 1950s and 60s. Center has had three football teams make the state championship game--1970, 1985, and 1988. It is its own self-contained district. In all the years I played or competed there---they were never anything but classy and respectful. Ruskin on the other hand--not so much.

One of the HUGE mysteries of the past decade plus is what happened to Ruskin.............I figured adding Hickman Mills, who had a very respectable FB program, would make them very formidable but the dead opposite has happened.

I wonder if the Oak Grove board president would have been ok with adding Center back when there was less "significant cultural differences," to use his words? Or before they were as "urban," to use the AD's?

Harrisonville played in the old Midwest Conference with Center from (1948-1958). Raytown dominated the conference from 1948 thru 1950, then left the conference. Harrisonville dominated it from 1951 thru 1954. As the suburbs grew post WWII and Korean War times the school's that were closer to KC began to dominate the conference. The list are the members from 1948-58.
Harrisonville Wildcats
Center Yellowjackets
Raytown Bluejays
Pleasant Hill Roosters
Hall Memorial Hornets (Buckner)
Lee's Summit Tigers
Ruskin Eagles
Grandview Bulldogs
Fort Osage Indians
