Loaded class 2 preview via ozone

Quote "First, can we all agree that Thayer not getting the 1-seed in District 3 – despite being ranked No. 2 in Class 2 – is slightly moronic? I mean, how does a team whose lone loss came against an out-of-state opponent not get rewarded with the top seed?"

Well I guess it wasn't so moronic after all. Maybe more moronic that Neelyville was never in state rankings.

Lol. It's a crazy game

I don't have much sympathy for Thayer though, their coach talent jumps and recruits. That's not really a secret in that area. The guy had some state playoff runs with Couch where very good players from other towns happened to move in. One was actually from Thayer if memory serves me. Then he went to Dora for awhile until the talent dried up and moved to Hartville. Then he leaves a good situation in Hartville to go to a Thayer team that won eleven games last year and magically before this season three girls that start now move into Thayer. The only major player that is the same from last year is Stone. The other ones just showed up. I've heard from people in the West Plains area he basically recruits during middle school summer leagues down there. One of the new girls this year is from West Plains and actually still lives there. I never feel too bad for private schools or coaches/schools with reputations of bending or breaking rules.

Yes that happens more then we know I'd say....Girls basketball this year across the state is down at least i think. Some of the teams that are good really aren't that great it's just that everyone else isn't very good

Wow mohsbballfan you got none of that right. How is it talent jumping when you leave the cupboards full and go to programs that are at the bottom and have losing records, seems like that is taking jobs to better your family or make more money. You have it backwards as far as the Couch situation goes between their 2 state runs their best player moved to Thayer and Thayer played in the state finals. Went to Dora and won maybe 10 games first year there, wow talent galore! Went to Hartville won maybe 10 games again first year, now I am seeing your point. Left those two jobs with 20 plus win years and everyone returning on both teams, sounds like it was drying up. As for 3 kids moving in once again you don't have your facts right one kid moved in whose dad graduated from Thayer and has a farm there and they plan to build there. (rent a place in Thayer) One of the kids you are talking about moved in 1 year ago and didn't play for her own reasons last year. (he is good got kids to move in a year before he came) As for the only kid from last year, the Soph that scored 20 plus last night not named Stoned started for them last year as a Freshman. (Sorrell) (might not want to leave her open) I would keep listening to West Plains cause if a full investigation was ever done into their girls programs they would struggle to field a team in anything do to undo influence. (Long) So basically you know nothing of factual interest and are making wild accusations about something you heard or might have remembered. Thayer don't want your sympathy they got beat in the closing seconds by a team he said prior to playing is a top 3 team in the state, no shame in that.

Excellent and dead on. It is a shame that this continues to happen.

HE did not leave the cupboards full, that is crazy talk. Couch was hardly full when he left. Dora had been brutal since he left. Hartville is the only situation he left that had a pretty full cupboard. Everyone in the area knows what he does.

It is legal to recruit the rural school kids in West Plains. They have a choice of what high school they go to, and Thayer is one of those choices. My question would be this, why would you not recruit the rural school kids?

Dora returned all 5 starters the next year and the next two off the bench, Couch won 18 plus games and lost a 4 year starter half way thru the year to knee injury they had chance to go back to Columbia with that group.

They can recruit before they get to high school but that is not what is taking place. These were girls who were already established in other high schools, and then suddenly show up in Thayer. People can try to justify it however you want but deep down people know how the rules are being broken.

Having a full cupboard is more than just what is taking place the next year. He saw the writing on the wall that the talent was dropping off and he goes off to find more talent.

So he goes to Hartville, where they won less than 10 games the year before he got there, and ten the first year, then wins 22 or so and has it ready to roll, then leaves, that kinda is the opposite of what you are talking about. You have no clue why he left Dora or Couch but talent level wasn't the issue. Might want to look at Couch pay schedule, bottom 1% of the state. Dora was getting enough from rural schools they were gonna be loaded for a long time, the fact that parents were fighting in the stands and parking lot may have something to do with him leaving and some not coming.

I think it's pretty safe to say that when there's that many people with the same general view and that much smoke, there's probably a fire causing it. I can understand enjoying your team having success, but it'd be awfully coincidental to have people from several different communities year after year saying the same things.

Yes people from the communities that lose, can't believe they have an excuse. In 13 years 5 move out and 3 move ins, THREE!

6 move out sorry missed Mills, one that moved out went on to play a year at Ohio State, three move ins; Hower, Neptune, and Jones. Don't know what smoke your choking on but that is not enough to set off smoke alarm.

Wow mohsbballfan, you really stuck foot in mouth...... or were you being sarcastic?!?!? I know the Thayer coach personally as well as the coach at Hartville now. Your "information" is completely false. His reasons for going to Thayer were not even bball related. He is a good man and a good coach. Get a clue.

No one stuck a foot in their mouth. Some just do not like the truth.

Back to the original topic. Class 2 is still loaded, but just that Neelyville who was overlooked all year is moving on and Thayer who was way overhyped all year is getting ready for Spring sports.

Overhyped those 2 teams are 2 of the top three teams in the state, Neelyville was underhyped, but Thayer has nothing to do with that. He and you have swallowed your foot whole and thats why we need to get back on topic. You better get use to it cause Thayer will be "overhyped" for a long time.

Aboveitall, finally someone who knows what they are talking about. New Haven is a lot better than people think you don't hear anything about them, must be Thayers fault, think they are top 4 team, Skyline a cut above everyone but anything can happen.

That's what I've been saying: New Haven is highly underrated because they're the smallest school in their conference and that conference has had 4 ranked teams at some point this year

What (four) class 2 teams will be playing in Columbia..?!

Thanks, C =]~

Rumpf from Mid-Buch might be the best girl I've seen play this year. They are under the radar and could make a run at things.

My money would be on Skyline winning it all, since they probably would have won a few state titles already if it weren't for how insane Crane was for four or five years.

Gainesville v Santa Fe
Skyline v Scot Co

Skyline over Gainesville in the title game.
Neelyville beat Gainesville 68-51. They shot 60% from the field and scored 68 points on a team that was only giving up about 35 a game. Neelyville will play Oran in the quarter final game Saturday at Three Rivers College.

Lol thank you !!! I was just wondering what happened to my thread lol

Tad is still clueless and so are you, Neelyville will play Skyline in the finals, (and Neelyville is a very good team) but the hype is for real with Skyline! They are the only class 2 team to really compete with Crane over last 4 years. I know everyone believes that basketball was invented in the bootheel but look over last 10 years and where does the champions come from, southwest! (class one thru 3)

And the best crane few years back at pink and white.

Saw the Skyline vs. Spokane district championship game. Skyline's press/defense has to be seen to be believed, looks like 6 or 7 kids are out there. I can't bet against them going all the way.

Spokane might have been given the toughest district assignments in the state these past 5 season. 4 years in a row they were in Crane's district. Then the year Crane finally becomes a "normal" squad, Spokane gets moved into Skyline's district.

Yeah, no doubt. Spokane had a very nice team this year and Coach Hepler got a lot out of them. I think they won their conference and if they did that's the first one in many years.

Watching Skyline dismantle Pierce City at Drury today. 40-13 at halftime. Their defensive intensity is something else.
