Licking July 16-18

St. James went 10-0. They are solid with a deep bench. Their game plan is to run in transition, and to pressure everywhere. Owensville has a good team...quick, smart, and rebounds well. I believe they won all of their games except v St. James. Newburg will be a handful in the Frisco league, but they were outmatched by the two FRC conference schools. I believe Newburg was missing a couple of key players though.

I think the FRC will be decent but not stacked. Sullivan is beatable finally and Hermann is going to be decent but not what they have been. St James is back to their old ways but overall I would argue that it is not as strong as the last few seasons.

Sullivan will be down but Union returns everyone, St. Clair has the big athletic girl, and if St. James and Owensville are better the conference is still at least 4 strong. Which is what they have been?

I agree with this. There will be 4-5 good teams in the FRC, capable of making a run in districts and beyond.

I hope so. That 2019-20 new stuff, led to a runner-up district finish.
“We’re putting in a new offense and a new defense and trying to work on things to make the kids uncomfortable,” Wells said. “We just need to get better at scoring."

“This is the best basketball team I’ve ever coached,” Wells said. “And it’s even a better group of kids. My only regret is I don’t get to go into practice with them on Monday. We’ll let this wound heal and then we’ll move forward.”

If 2020-21 Season? Opener 11.24.20 at Licking, who loaded their schedule with three additional non-con games instead of a third tournament.

Since the 2012-13 season, St. James holds a 5-4 record over Licking. Licking, Class 3 runner-up in 2020, 3rd place finish in 2019 has won each of the last four games by an average of 14 points over St. James. Licking may stay class 3, while St. James might go to Class 5? unofficial enrollment forecasting

Sullivan has won five in a row over St. James, while the class of '21 has split the last four meetings with Rolla.

No fear of hitting the roads for games; St. Louis @ St. Joe's, @ MICDS, Helias, Dexter, Ste. Genevieve, West County Leadwood, Lutheran St. Charles, Camdenton, MVBTL, Warrenton, v Crane @ Ozark & @ Drury. Miss seeing the Maries County Bank St. James Shootout to begin the season. Since Fatima is off the non-conference schedule that tourney works. A chance there to play against Belle and SEMO bound Halle Smith. More I-44 than Hwy 42 and 63 options for tourneys? A return to the Lebanon tournament, with Sullivan, maybe St. Francis Borgia or Washington, though trying to not play Four Rivers teams in tournaments. An earlier posted schedule had a quirky look to it, glad it was fixed with a road trip to Nixa ('17) to play their homegrown and transfer talent?

Looking forward to the new season.

Look at that history lesson! Impressive assessment. Kudos to whoever you are. Going to guess a longtime St. James fan.

No doubt an impressive program with a great Coach in Terry Wells.

Two questions I would like to ask Coach Wells:

1. Who is the one Coach that challenges you the most to prepare for?

2. Who is the one Coach that prepares their team the best year in and year out to face his team?

Also, there is no way St. James goes to class 5. That would jump them two class sizes and there is no way any public school will experience that kind of a jump.

Upon further review, the forecast for 9-11 classes is right keeping us a larger class 4 (242-491). I was trying to factor in an additional class 416/3 * 4 = 556 for class 5 (491-992). Does not matter to me where St. James is classified so long as they are playing on the court in JQH Arena either weekend.

I am sure that Steinhoff quote is from others as well, but I have heard that quote in my nightmares from Ron Shumate @ SEMO
