Liberty North 21,,,,,Kearney 10

I watched a little of this during halftime of WC game. Kearney had lead and ball but turnover and penalty set up Liberty North with the lead.

It's nice to see Liberty North play 4 quarters against Kearney. How many times have they had a lead at half time and then just give it up to them in the 2nd half?

Nice, after weeks away, to see the out of region peanut gallery making their own assumptions about what really happened in this game...............some things never change I guess. Want the real story behind this score then do a little homework and go to prepskc.com for the full story and WCMOSports.com for my first hand analysis. Thank you in advance for your support..........

Did you care to find out what happened the third play from scrimmage...................thought not.

I really don't know much of what happened in the game. I literally just watched a few minutes of the game during half of the WC-Har Ber game. My comment was just at the point of the game I watched Kearney had the lead and the ball and I thought that play looked like a huge turning point in the game.

What happened on the 3rd play?

BTW the fact that of all the games I could have checked on I chose to watch a little of Kearney-LN should tell you I figured that if WC is going to get to the dome again this year that they will be playing Kearney to do it. Kearney losing to LN regardless of what circumstances were doesn't change my mind as far as that goes.

Found article. Starting QB went down with knee injury. Hope he is OK. Probably explains a lot. I tuned in right before a high snap that QB couldn't handle gave LN the ball and then 2 defensive penalties when LN looked to be stopped set them up the lead.

At that point I went back to WC game.

The center of all Kearney's offense this year (as it usually is) Senior QB Logan Hinck sustained what I hope is not a season ending knee injury. K's backup is a JR who was put in a very unfortunate situation and was frankly just not ready for it..............but I am very proud of Coach Jones owning up to them being "as good as their backups" and taking pressure off that fine kid. As far as trying to change your mind goes I really don't care.......the kid is the engine that makes them go and, in Jones now 10th season, this situation has not occurred (starting QB injury) so it is basically uncharted territory. I would just frankly like for folks here to do their homework (as I ALWAYS do) before jumping to assumptions. And that includes you...........

Top. I might be guilty possibly of making assumptions but I was only mentioning what I saw and really wasn't coming to any conclusion other than mistakes did Kearney in. I don't know that without the turnover and subsequent penalties that LN gets the lead and holds on to win. I only watched maybe 8-10 plays but didn't get the impression that LN was a superior team.

Totally understand that an injury to a QB can bring an offense to a halt. In the case of a team like Carthage they lose their best player on offense and defense.

As long as Keareny's defense is close to where they have been, which it looks like, they won't lose in their district at the very least.

In all honesty (and I published this back in early summer here) I would watch SMITHVILLE. If Kearney does indeed lose Hinck for the season I sure wouldn't be surprised to see them in the semis let alone the quarters vs. someone like Hannibal. They just need a consistent running game.............I, contrary to popular assumption, am not really a Kearney homer and like to see other schools in this area have success and I really like what former coach Smith left with these Warriors.

Let me guess; Peter hit you in the nose with the football?

Hungry?...........

Have a Snickers!

(Not making light of the injury. Hope the QB has a speedy and full recovery!)

Intelligent quote of the year so far award...................again quit assuming and go to prepskc.com for the full story.
Don't need to read it, I saw it. Players get hurt every week. The real good teams over come injuries. Sorry if I touched a nerve. Nice to see you posting again, you bring a lot to the board.

Guess since nobody else from Kearney is posting here anymore (decided in Floray's memory this week to do so) you win the award for most intelligent post as well......................NOT.
The Only thing that really matters is Kearney lost to a below average football team. Someone gets hurt its next kid in. The good teams overcome

Liberty North is not below average. They were a C4 semifinalist 2 years ago and almost beat a very good Helias team. Last year they were 10-5 in C5 and shut out Staley in the playoffs before losing a close game to Park Hill and they are 2-1 this year. LN is probably not a great team but they are way above average.

If Kearney had played an average team they would have been 3-0 and this thread would not exist.

Yea that was last year. Unless their 14-9 win over a terrible team week one was an aberration they going to have a tough year

Liberty North is not very good this year, they may not be below average but they are average at best. Kearney wins that game going away had the QB not been injured. Injuries happen and Kearney could not overcome this one on Friday. The rest of their schedule is brutally awful, they will win out. Like tophat mentioned, they might worry about Smithville but have plenty of time to prepare for them, with or without their starting QB. By that time, Jones will have the backup playing much better if he is needed. I just hope Hinck is okay!

Oh look! Its thetophat! The one who decided to take his weekly pickem contest to a more "sophisticated" board. I am happy to tell you that since you have left, several others have sprung up! Now, in regards to Kearney, someone early said that injuries happen and good teams overcome them, its next kid up. This applies to Kearney just as well. Coach Jones is a fantastic coach, who has every player ready to play on Friday nights. This comes down to IMO, Kearney just lost to an inferior team. Upsets happen. The real test will be how Kearney responds and plays this Friday and every other Friday afterwards. I am hoping their QB makes a quick recovery and can have a chance to play again.

The Story of this game: LN: 148 total yards (31 rushing.) 7 First downs. Kearney: 282 total yards (96 rushing.) 13 first downs. Backup QB had a rough night. A pick-six. A fumble deep in his own territory. An interception on the LN 5. Without their starting QB...they might double the yards of their opponent. But it will be tough to win games. Obviously.

Sure, luck means a lot in football.
Not having a good quarterback is bad luck.

By Class 5 standards perhaps they will turn out to be average. My guess is though if you took all the Class 5 programs and ranked them from 1-50-whatever this year LN will still be in the upper half. If you made LN a Class 4 program they would be way above average.

It is apparent that in week 3 that Kearney is not at this point where they have been the last 3-4 years but the defense gave up 7 first downs and under 150 yards against a solid Class 5 team. Kearney is still going to be a tough out in the playoffs.

Kearney has a good coach that will have his team ready come playoff time. They had 2 regular season losses in 2009.

They lost a QB that was the Player of the Week in KC. Had been averaging 220 yards passing and doing 1/3 of the rushing yards. Three costly turnovers are what lost the game. Even with the backup--they outgained Liberty N two to one.

They will be fine. Playoffs are a long way away.

YEP keep preachin' that ya ole preacher (I read your junk on the Political forum).. :)

And look what happened...Kearney got their QB back: 53-15 with 26 first downs. Hmmm? Against the same team the alleged #1 in Class 5, Fort O. beat by a score of 27-14. But Keaney isn't even one of the top 25 teams in KC...according to 810 Varsity...so it was probably just a fluke, right? Ray South has a nice D1 QB.

Jabril Cox is a big timer just on a bit of an island this year..............but let's see how they evolve by district time.

Honestly unless I see something otherwise later tonight that #1 is Staley. BUT never discount either team that made the Dome last year (Battle-Nixa).

I just have one question, if coach Jones says were as good as our backups or however you put it Top. Isnt he putting pressure on the backup not taking it off of him. I mean it's more or less saying if you suck we suck so you better not suck. Right?
