South wants to stay Class 1

I don't blame them. I still can't believe South has gotten small enough to be Class 1. North and South combined are smaller than South was by itself 35 years ago. I can foresee the Tri-County in North's future.

south shelby will not co-op with north shelby in football because it will bump their team into class 2.

You are right that it would move them to Class 2. I guess it is a decision about whether the additional players from North will help them be more competitive.

North Shelby has the second lowest enollment for 11-man (93) in the state. Braymer (83) has the lowest and they are considering either a move to 8-man or a co-op with Polo.

Taking North Shelby and South Shelby out of Class 1 would move two more schools into Class 1 since it is the smallest 64. Father Tolton and Brentwood were the smallest Class 2 schools. Of course enrollments will change before this would go into effect.

The other possible co-op is with Knox County. It would push them into Class 2 also (266 total).

In the end, it will be very difficult for North Shelby to keep a football team on their own.

Wow. That does put a considerable squeeze on things.

Many of the Tri-County schoools plus Marion County have fall baseball. That is one option for North Shelby is to drop football in favor of fall baseball. I think that would be a last option after exploring co-ops.
