The former Nebraska running back was found dead in his prison cell today.

So sad, talk about wasting talent. No matter what you thought of him as a person, the fact is he was a person. Dude is dead, we should show some respect.

I understand what you are trying to say. I don't think he necessarily deserves respect in death, just not disrespect.
Now someone like Osama bin Laden is a different story.

It really is sad to see someone waste so much. But sometimes it's just hard to have any pity for people when continue to be so self destructive, while given opportunities to change.

He was going to be put to death in prison as it was. My comment was more of a shot at those who feel the need to make a yearly update post of LP here.

He was in prison for assaulting his latest girl friend. I know of 2 such assaults for sure. Most likely more. He was being tried for the murder of his cell mate. Respect? The only thing better (IMO) is if it would have happened before the first assault of a girl friend. Maybe OJ is watching.

He had a lot of people giving him opportunities that most people never get.

It is a sad situation. I think after watching ESPN after his last days in prison, he changed and realized how he messed up. Too bad he did not learn that at a young age and become the citizen he could have been. Best thing to do is to use his story to tell future student athletes and hopefully keep as many as we can out of the same situation instead of berating the man after his death.

Maybe a 30 for 30? Those seem to be very well done, and would seem like a fitting place to push that point across.

Coach Lathrop, Raytown South Legend basketball coach, told me once when I was just starting my coaching career to remember 2 things.
1. He would never leave a kid behind if the kid was late because he himself had been late before.
2. The easiest thing for a coach to do is wash their hands of a troubled kid and kick him off the
team.

As a young asst. I voiced my opinion that we should cut ties with a troubled player, "we don't need him" The wiser head coach replied, " yeah, but he needs us".

No doubt there is a point you have to let a guy go but for many its all they have.

No man that roughs up or rapes a woman should have the.privilege of playing the great game we all love. Anyone that supports a woman beater should see the results of domestic violence up close and personal once.
