On paper, it looks like Lathrop wins by 14-17. Lawson rated better than Ava, and Lathrop destroyed them twice. Lamar let a lot of average teams score a lot of points. Macon, Mid Buchanan, and Summit are all rated better than Seneca (Lamar's second best opponent.) Lathrop crushed them all too.

I'm curious what kind of offenses Lathrop has been up against. Lamar has looked overpowering lately, especially that last quarter against Ava. The only thing holding them back is penalties. Other than shooting themselves in the foot, they have been able to rip of 5-10 yards pretty much at will. A clean Lamar offense will definitely be hard to stop.

Big concern is defense. Pass defense is always a worry, especially now with two starters out. Ava had good speed and we had a hard time keeping the edge set. Up the middle I'm still pretty comfortable. They may get some yards but I don't think that's what sinks our battleship.

I see this one going like Ava. Teams eating clock and trading scores early. Then a couple late rallies, and probably whoever gets the ball with 3-4 min left winning it.

I don’t see any impressive run games that Lathrop has played. Lathrop doesn’t pass much. Idk.

Lathrop has speed to spare. But have no idea if they can play D, as the best offense they played was Lawson--who rates better than Ava.

All I can say is I think it's going to be a long ride back home for Lamar. Yes they are a great team and anyone that does not respect that is setting home watching it on TV.

Loads of teams and fans have thought that since 2015. We will see. Class 2 hasn’t beaten them in awhile. I think they find a way to win this. And lose in the state game.

Lathrop wouldn’t be more likely to score more than LN against BO. These computer projections are just that. Projections. Based on nothing substantial. But they are fun to play around with.

I know those are just predictions. Those scores seem a bit high for the LN BO game. That game is more of a defensive matchup and the first to score 30 will probably be the winner.

I'll admit Lathrop is probably better than I initially thought and them absolutely manhandling Lawson was pretty impressive, but Lathrop is gonna come in and try to beat Lamar at their own game and while it might work this time around that's something that hasn't worked for nearly a decade. Both times I saw Lathrop play this year the RB threw more passes than the QB. They are not a passing team whatsoever. In fact both offenses are basically the same.

It's all gonna come down to the trenches. Which box can handle itself better?

What I can say is that for the Lamar fans who are used to traveling to games in the SCA I think you're gonna be pretty pleased with Lathrop's set up. Awesome field turf, good seating and parking, all great at least as they compare to the SCA teams.

Based on a season's worth of data, they become a little more substantial--like 92% accurate substantial.
Than by your logic. Lamar wins state if they get past Lathrop. Would still be very unlikely. I don’t see that percentage to be accurate at all.

Okay: 2017 The final two weeks it was 14-3 in predictions. Throw out the <7 and it is over 90% accurate.

Well the hype train for Lamar was real that year so that helped and was deserved. Last year went as expected for as much as it could go. This year doesn’t seem to be that way to me. Classes 2-4 are complete toss ups. And possibly 5.

One of the bigger lines we've had in a while, at least on offense. Reminiscent of the lines when the title streak began. If they're clean I love our chances. But those backside holdings that are 5 yards behind the LOS absolutely kill drives...

Cassville fan here. I have family in Lamar so I’ve seen them play 4 times year counting this week. I’ve always noticed flags with Lamar, but not to this level. What’s up with that? Youth?

Perhaps, but maybe more inexperience than youth as the majority of the guys are upperclassman (I believe). I think the biggest problem is, as someone pointed out in another thread, this year we don't quite have the horsepower that we had in the past. In years past it didn't matter if we were 2nd and 25, we could figure out a way to get it. This year, they still get it many times, but we don't quite have the firepower as we have in other years, so it makes the penalties appear to be more damaging.

Think it can be fixed? I know it’s pretty late.

I had that same thought (Catch21) but didn't feel quite qualified to state it.
It felt like the same penalties were less painful in past years.

I would also note that it's not a crazy possibility that teams with a spotlight on them like this one has??? I'm guessing that they play entire games of HIGH SCHOOL football where their opponent doesn't hold a single time ... o_O (which is impossible ... ).
Not saying the stripes would do this intentionally so much as their eyes are going to naturally be on the more dominant team in a blow out by a long, long shot. I'm sure that can make the penalties seem lop-sided at times.

I'm not a coach or a football expert but I would say yes it could. It seems like there is usually only one or two a game that really hurt.

The one at the start of the 3rd quarter in my opinion completely changed the flow of the game. To that point Lamar had looked good on D, only giving up one score, and was marching. We score on a big play going into half, received after the break, and immediately drove down to the Ava 19 with no issue. Looks like we will easily go up 28-8, and all of the momentum. Instead there's a holding deep in the backfield to push it to 1st and 20 something... can't convert, missed FG, then Ava immediately drives and scores. What should have been a 3 possession game was a one possession game in a matter of minutes.

Yeah that was a huge momentum swing. Hope they can fix the issues!

did that issue assist in making the Lamar Versailes game close for a while? I was kind of surprised how well they did against Lamar for quite a bit of the game.

Yes. But let’s not take everything from Versailles QB. That kid would be moving forward past this week with a team around him. Great QB.

The penalty could have been overcome, they could have passed the ball on 3rd and 13 instead of running up the middle. There is absolutely zero confidence in the passing game. One pass in a tight game with 11 in the box most of the time? They can pass, but won't...this fact will end their season short of a state championship, among other reasons.

Couldn’t Bailey know his teams weaknesses? And be trying to save players and plays for bigger games? Let’s face it momentum swing is why this was that close of a game. I think Lamar wins by 14 range if certain events didn’t happen. And I think these smaller things can definitely be fixed. Lathrop was at the game. The coach and some players. I wouldn’t put it past him.

No game is bigger than an elimination game you win by 5 pts. If there was a 21 pt. lead I agree with you, but that was not the case.

Was surprised Lamar didn't pass on the 3rd and 13th. Lamar has passed more this year than most years.
Only the first half of the season when there was a high probability they were going to win the game regardless of the result of said pass.

No clue what you are saying...not trying to be difficult but I really don't understand what you are trying to convey.
I’m saying Lamar was in control outside of tops a minute of gameplay. Closer than comfort? Sure. But was winning the game. I guess I just believe in this staff more than I should or something. I think they have a chance still.
