Anything is possible. I first wanted to use Calpreps as part of the formula to come up with the champion, so that limited me to 2003 forward. Next, after looking at the list of champions, there just happened to be 8 different schools. My thought was one team per, so Blair Oaks and Lamar had to be paired down. Blair Oaks seemed fairly easy on which team should move through, but had no real idea on Lamar. Perhaps I'll look into a 16 team bracket and include a non-championship team so that all Lamar (and Blair Oaks) teams get a shot.

If you include non-state winners 2008 Maryville was much better then 2009 team. 09 was a younger rebuilding team.

My top 4
1 Cameron 05
2. Centralia 03
3. Lamar13
4. Maryville 08

So, using PF/PA in playoffs as seedings for bracket (other than throwing 2008 Maryville in at 16), and Calpreps for results it went as follows:

Only team to beat any Lamar team other than Lamar was 2007 Lawson. The only other non-Lamar advancement was made by 2005 Cameron. It's Calpreps, so TIFWIW.

2013 was my favorite team, with 2016 a close second. I disagree with the post that the top player from 2016 wouldn't be in the top 5 in 2013. 2013 broke all the records, had tremendous stats, but that was also a turning point in the program IMO. It was then that we stopped beating teams by 70+ points. You can compare scores since then, and there haven't been the high score blowouts. 50-7 is a very typical win. (and sometimes less). People outside the program seem to think that these more recent teams aren't as strong, or that there are more question marks. I think that is just the way coach wants it. Fact is almost all of those victories could have been so so much worse.

With the exception of a couple busted coverage surprises, and of course Cassville, the bulk of the points in 2018 have been scored against the Lamar JV squad during garbage time. Coaches put them in and want them to experience the adversity of playing against more mature and sometimes more talented personnel. Lots of times they hold, and sometimes they don't. There have been instance where the JV squads dominate as well. People talk about it all the time, but it is a true luxury to be able to do that with your young kids, and a great way to build your program.

You could definitely make an argument for a couple of the top players from the 2016 over 2013 but in the end I think 2013 was stronger at the top. If I had to play one big, I would take the 2013 team. If I had to play an entire season, I am going with the 2016 team.

I keep waiting for the day we can laugh and talk about it but I am not sure we will ever get there. The last time it came up a year or so ago the MV folks weren't ready. Lets just say a couple MV folks let their emotions get the best of them.

I’m pretty sure plays from this game still haunt MV folks dreams on a regular basis.

I think about the 2015 game a lot more than 2013. 2015 was the 14-7 game where our LT/LB scored on a hitch and pitch and finished with about 20 tackles, it was one of the better single game performances I've ever seen. We lead 7-6 with about 2 minutes to go.

In 2013 Lamar was clearly better, it was possibly the best C2 team of all time after all. HOWEVA (Stephen A. Smith voice) THE WIND was a BIG factor! It almost blew our 1940s shitty light poles right over! On a calm day maybe we only lose 21-0 instead of 35-0! (I actually think it could've been a close game, but no need to get into un-provable speculation, the usually doesn't end well online.)

In regards to the pizza thing all I know is some woman from MV had a meltdown in front of the Lamar team who were eating pizza in front of our locker room and generally milling about. I think she stole a pizza and put on quite a show. I never did hear who the person was, which is strange in our small town. I think she might've been a senior's mom, so she had seen her kid lose to Lamar 4 times in a row. Probably wasn't the most level headed person to begin with, as anyone from any town would say that isn't the best representation of our community.

That’s crazy. I was really hoping you guys would play Lamar again this year. With the QB you guys have and the experience gained this year a possible rematch is in order next year. I’ve only watched a game between these two online. Hope to make it out to the next one!

interesting that calpreps has the 17 squad as second best and only a 1 pt loss to 13. 16 was a better squad than 17 and 13 if they came out swinging instead of lazy like they normally did(which is how they started 0-21 to cj) then 13 would be atleast a td better than 16

Points for/against during playoffs (sectionals on for apples/apples comparison):

1. 2013 Lamar 219/7 212
2. 2012 Lamar 255/67 188
3. 2005 Cameron 224/66 158
4. 2015 Lamar 154/14 140
5. 2016 Lamar 183/44 139
6. 2003 Centralia 165/33 132

Cards! Don't ever leave us, man! You do good work.

I've spent all this time on this board the past several years and had NO IDEA there was a MV MOM to rival CARTHAGE MOM!!!!!!! :D:D:D

I believe that you have your teams and years mixed up. The Strafford team of a couple years later was the so called "greatest show on grass." Their players came out on the field claiming as much. They had read too many clippings from the Springfield News and were just a bit cocky.

Strafford (greatest show on grass) was 2014
Pizza game was 2013
Close Liberty game was 2015
Liberty comes to Barton County (Lamar players tailgating on opening day of dear season since 8 AM) -2016
Ava - 2017

Coach, Do I remember correctly a social media post showing parents grilling steaks for players in the school parking lot (before sun-up) as they prepared to load the bus for a playoff or state championship game?! :D

I know for a fact that was 2012 at breakfast before playing Caruthersville in Lamar in the semi finals (Darrel Monroe was running back for

It was also last year twice (I believe) before going to Ava for quarterfinals and for sure before going to Columbia for the Championship game.

All the wise men would always tell stories of the benefits and folk tales that come from having a bloody steak before playing football. It’s a winning formula. Right coach?

There are several in the discussion just since 2000. 2010 Penney was a monster. I'd put 2003 Centralia on top. 2005 Cameron also stacks up well.

The whole reason for the question was I'm tinkering with an idea to bracket Class 2 since 2003 Centralia. The 8 teams would be:

2003 Centralia
2004 Blair Oaks
2005 Cameron
2007 Lawson
2008 Clark County
2009 Maryville
2010 Penney
2013 Lamar

Got some work to do on a formula and weighting it. Calpreps, PF/PA, human poll on here, etc.
Wasn't there someone on here that put together a formula to calculate the best teams in MO history. It was based on margin of victories and points scored. I think he only calculated teams that went undefeated. I used the formula to score the 13 Lamar team and they scored among some of the best this guy had listed. I believe it was a couple of falls ago that this was discussed. Probably could find the thread if someone looked deep enough.

That 13 Lamar team was impressive. Some of the best athletes in just size and speed I had witnessed for a C2 school. I think it was the 14 team that beat Strafford's elite team of super speedsters. I remember talking to a few people that thought Strafford would win because of their speed. They were just not big enough or physical enough to match Lamar.

Ahh the Springfield media. Always supportive of their local team playing Webb or Lamar. Then after they are beaten by Webb and Lamar they become teams that fall in their market.

That '14 Strafford team was good, but they were truly a product of poor competition in the MLC. Everyone who really knew what was going knew that Quarterfinal was gonna be a bloodbath. That might've been Strafford's best team ever that year and I still don't think they could've won the SCA.
Overrated like Fair Grove is every season.

They did work through a district with Liberty and Mountain Grove that year I believe. They just did not have the physicality to match Lamar. They did coast through several games because they were significantly faster than most teams they faced. Once they met Lamar, Lamar matched the speed, but added the toughness Strafford did not have.

I remember that pre-game warm-up like it was yesterday. Not sure why, but game was on a Friday night instead of Saturday afternoon, guessing because the teams were relatively close. Lamar was in the corner of their end zone, and was on one knee in a huddle listening to what may have been two of the best leaders the brotherhood has ever had. One was basically yelling, and he could be heard from quite a ways off. Soon, Strafford began to head toward their locker room, walking in a group right past the Lamar gathering. As they walked by, Lamar's big 6'6" DE/TE yelled and pointed "THEY THINK THEY ARE THE GREATEST SHOW ON GRASS!?!?" Strafford players just kept walking slowly by without a word, sheepishly looking at the huddle as they passed. The fear in Strafford, and confidence of Lamar was palpable.

I knew at that moment it wasn't going to be close.

Liberty was in that district but MG was not, that was one of the years MG was C3. Straff beat Liberty by 2 scores, but that was kind of a lull year in between 2 really good classes for Liberty. Straff was absolutely pounding the Pleasant Hopes and Skylines though, some of those scores are bonkers

I couldn't remember if MG was C2 or not. I saw Straff against PHope and that's when I knew they had really no shot against Lamar. Didn't play physical or hard, just coasted on pure athleticism.

Darrel Monroe was no joke.

I think you're right, I was incorrect on the nickname. But still, I think that year's Liberty team with Acklin/Denton was averaging something like 60+ points per game with a million TDs through the air

The youngest Acklin is under helm now. Was only a sophomore. He stepped up big this season. He might be a handful next season.

I have never heard Fair Grove being called the "greatest show on grass"-- that was Straffords Ozone nickname

You know, when you win 7 state titles in a row it's really hard to keep all of these opponents and nicknames and everything straight in your mind.

Or is it 8 titles in a row now?

7. 8 would be this season. But it’s a tough go for them to win this year.
