Lamar 21 Ava 8 @ Half

Lamar had a chance to score before and after half to go up three scores. Ran it down to the 9, only to have a holding deep in the backfield the next play, and end up scoring nothing. Ava drives down and scores. Now 21-14. Huge missed opportunity.

30-27 Ava. Both offenses gouging the other. Probably going to come down to who has it last

Does Lamar have the ability to defend multiple receivers or a Spread Offense thru the air?
Thinking BO?

I’m worried about BO. And Lathrop was at the game. Both worry me as someone who has relation in Lamar and cheers for them when my school is out. I don’t think LN gets to possibly face Lamar.

Lathrop stayed for the whole game. The head coach and a few players watched. They may throw more now next week.

Thinking BO?

BO throws a lot out of their RPO but Lutheran North can pass out of their spread, too. Lamar struggled to cover Ava receivers and it was just DBs getting beaten in coverage, not busted zones or flood routes. Their opponent next week will absolutely throw the ball if they have the ability to.

As far as whether BO or LN wins the other side of the bracket ... we’ll all get to see what’s what next Saturday.

They both run the same offense it going be mostly a ground game next week. Think back in 2009 Bailey said he got some of his offensive ideas from what Holt was running in Maryville.

Going to be a struggle. Defending the pass has never been a strong suit, and now being down two starters in the secondary makes that even worse.

Is Lamar more vulnerable then ever?

Injuries are adding to it. But Lamar has never been the best at defending the pass. I wouldn’t say the are really vulnerable? But have to figure something out soon or even next week will be a big struggle.

Is Lamar more vulnerable then ever?

This Lamar team is not as strong as recent teams. That has been apparent all year but

1. They continue to be very well coached
2. They know how to win big games

A team that can hold their own up front and can throw the ball will give Lamar problems.

Are they vulnerable? Yes. Can they eek out title #8. Possibly.

I don't think that Lamar has more penalties this year compared to previous years. It's just in the past, it didn't matter. They were able to make up for the mistakes with an explosive offense. This years team doesn't have the super back or backs they have had in previous years. So, when they make mistakes and get behind the chains, it is harder for them to make up the yardage. They are still very good, just not as dominant as in years past.

Hilarious to me how all you arm chair analysts are so quick to jump on the “Lamar is down” bandwagon. Watch the last two offensive drives from today and tell me what you see. You don’t have to win games by turbo clock to be dominant. This championship run is far, far from over.

I watched the whole game. The last 2 drives I saw an Ava defense that didn’t know how to stop the Offset I Power Runs that Lamar beat them with. I also saw that Lamar struggled to get to the QB or cover receivers on defense.

Hardman is very explosive, doesn’t play offensively a ton but when he does he can go to the house on any play. That goes for him in the return game as well.

His ability to let the play develop is outstanding. He's fun to watch

Not trying to be argumentative but almost by definition by comparison you do. I’m not surprised that Ava pushed Lamar nor am I surprised that Lamar won.

The difference is several recent years you could see a Lamar title coming whereas this year it might happen. They can still get it done but it is going to be a fight.

Right, Lamar losing IMO makes them more vulnerable then other seasons! Now is there a Buster Douglas waiting on them?

Lamar’s “mystique” or their past championships or having gotten the pressure of maintaining the streak isn’t going to win their next two games. They’ll have to do what the other 3 teams are doing ... correcting weaknesses. If a team can throw and Lamar can’t defend the pass better than they did today, they’ll be joining the wrestling team for practice the following Monday.

Well you should feel good Ava is not a good passing team.. average less then 80 yrds a game. Majority of that was 1 or 2 bigger plays

Of course. Like any team. You have real beef with Lamar though it seems like. Who’s speaking of past championships? Lol I’ve only seen people using experience. Which is a real thing. Doesn’t mean you win. Doesn’t mean someone else can’t win. Lamar could easily not win this year. There’s really nothing objective about speaking the same opnion over and over. We get it. Lol LN could win this year as easy as BO. I think whoever wins between Lamar and Lathrop will probably lose to either of them. I don’t think either can stop BO or LN if they are firing on all cylinders. And it brings me no joy in saying it. Lamar regardless of what happens this year has had, or will continue to have a streak of winning nobody else can say they have reached in the state. Something to be proud of.

I guess you for one are.
Something to be proud of.
No doubt. I'll never see it again for sure, and doubt any do. Nobody can or wants to take that away. To be fair, it is only about this year's version.
