Possibly the two best Class 2 teams in the state will meet in Mt. View on Saturday. This will be the 5th time in the past 6 years they have met in the quarterfinals. The fourth straight time Lamar has had to make the long trip east to "The Eagles Nest". This should be a good one.

Lamar may have finally gotten their long awaited conference title, but there's one milestone they've yet to achieve: An undefeated season.

When I saw the first half score of last night's game, my first thought was "cruise control"; the Tigers can't afford that (especially with every team in Class 2 playing them like it's the Super Bowl...)

Darren has done a great job at mvbt, both teams have had a great year, to bad this couldn't be latter down the road

Does MV still like to throw the ball? Defending the pass seems to have become a strength for Lamar. They seems to struggle with pounding running game. It is tough to compare when it gets to this point due to a lack of like apponents. I know Bailey will have them ready.

It might be just because they struggled for so long that it's hard to say defending the pass is now a strength, but they have made significant improvements. Some teams have been able to grind out some short yards with power runs, but I would be more than happy to see someone try to line up and play power run all game vs Lamar. That may be a way to keep the scores a little lower, but I still think Lamar comes out on top. If a team wanted to do that they better put it in the endzone every position, AND be able to keep Hardman/Embry away from the perimeter.

Liberty's best bet is to consistently mix it up and march slowly down the field, all the while making Lamar grind out scores. Continuously trying for big plays might get you a slipped tackle TD every now and then, but it might also get you picks and you'll find yourself down 4 scores in a hurry. Just ask CJ....

The Eagles throw the ball all year and do it well. When November comes around, those opening day winds pick up and I haven't been to the "Nest" when it wasn't blowing pretty good.

I wish I could find a pic. of the Liberty faithful that sit in the cherry picker in the end zone during those windy days. Pretty Crazy

My .02. Lamar is not as dominant up front as they have been in recent years. On the flip side the secondary looks to be as good as they have been. They have good team speed, they play hard and continue to be coached extremely well. Going to take a very good team to keep the game close let along beat Lamar.

I agree with you Frog. The 2013 team was loaded with size and speed. They dominated Class 2 and intimidated their competition. This year's team is not as big or strong, but have more overall team speed and quickness. They have better overall speed in the secondary and Coach Wilkerson has taught them how to defend the pass better than in years past. This team will not wow you with overall team size like in years past, but they are relentless.

Is Coach Wilkerson the DC in Lamar?

Lamar DBs have looked pretty good since playing CJ, and seem to be building confidence, and getting better every week. Can't wait to see how they fair against that Liberty Pass Attack.

My brother is the one in the cherry picker on the hill at The Nest, he said he would send a pic if you wanted it. Message him on Facebook " Lelande Smith".
