Not surprised at all after attending just under one half of this one. Another team that Kearney has beat near to death the past 15 years who owed them. Felt a lot like the 2012 Platte County game but honestly I was warning many after what I saw in the Raytown game something like this may happen. Congrats to the Irish and good luck next week at Platte County!

Sticking with my prediction of 100 point over/under for a Lafayette Platte County game a couple weeks ago.

KHS pretenders again LOL
Yep four straight years in the semis with a title and runner-up. 2017 here felt about 100 percent like 2016 down in Webb. K will be back. The QB and top RB are both JRs so there is that to build around. As expected a few Webbies showing kids all across the Show Me State what sportsmanship is all about...............

Given what I saw of PC's D a couple of weeks ago I totally agree. Lafayette's offense, especially the QB, will be a night-long matchup problem. What I cannot figure out (not being to any of their games this year) is how they got blown out by Smithville and lost to Maryville last week or are the Spoofhounds turning it up at the right time again?

I spoke with some Smithville fans about the Lafayette game. They said there were a bunch of dropped passes and missed wide-open receivers. Lafayette was just off that night.

And Maryville does look to be improving. The Pius score tonight shows that versus Week 2.

About everyone down here lost all respect for Kearney after that "RIP" tweet by your coach two years ago after a helmet to helmet hit on a defenseless player left a young man unconscious on the field
You need to take that up with HIM rather than branding a whole community.

Didn't see him disciplined by Kearney Administration
Boy you don't let anything go, do you? Why don't you write the Kearney or Liberty school board about it? Not like Webb hasn't hit any defenseless K players (QB in 2014, RB in 2008)? But you don't see any of us complaining.................it is called FOOTBALL.

Neither player saw it coming. It was the biggest accidental peek a boo hit I've ever seen. Before America became a nation of butt hurt weenies the tweet would've been celebrated. The only error was the social media public court opinion became involved. Big collisions win football games, that is fact.

Lafayette's first mistake in Maryville was pre game jumping up and down on the Maryville logo at mid field waving an MEC Championship belt......which they did not earn because of the loss. But give them credit, they are a good team, had it not been for a bad snap on the last play of the game it could have ended differently.

Agreed, I doubt they do that again.

There was no RIP tweet. There was a "hit of the game" tweet. A legal hit. Not a defenseless player. Man you guys are sore losers.

I was watching PC tonight. I didn't know the Kearney score til now. I picked PC to win the District this year.
I did, too, but thought K would play them. It is all good with me I kinda saw this coming once I got to see them in person. Now as for PC being a "shoo in" to win next week I would not say that. I don't think either team has much D.

uh, no. Libel, look up the definition. Any statement that celebrates a big hit, is frowned upon. You're the only poster that made it a public issue, AND Your idiotic comments got you blacklisted.

Well since AD's mom posted an apology from Jones for retweeting the RIP12 tweet from one of his players on this board I doubt he would have much of a case

This is true. Jones did in fact apologize for retweetig it.

My .02 is that the hit in question was clearly illegal and should have been flagged but once it wasn't and the WC player was OK it ceased to be a big issue in my book. People were as much upset about the result of the game than a social media post. At least I hope. I don't think the Kearney player was headhunting.

I have seen a bunch of hits over the years that were similar not get flagged. The most violent hit I ever saw in a high school game Mark Smith knocked out a Rock Bridge offensive lineman on a block after and interception. It was helmet to helmet and Mark was no dirty player. There were 2 targeting calls in the Camdenton-WC game last night. The one on the WC LB was definitely a bad call, the replay was on TV and I'm not sure about the one on the Camdenton lineman.

Since the original thread is about Kearney and Lafayette. I wonder if it wasn't a match-up of styles. Plate couldn't hold up,enough up front to take advantage of their advantages against Kaearney but Lafayette had enough balance to exploit that.

All that said from what little I've seen my gut feeling is Platte County beats Lafayette and moves on.

Anyone have full stats on this game from last night? I am preparing a bit today for the PC/Lafayette game next week as I will be on the call of that one via mokssports.com and 810 Varsity.

Like every week I want to see the weather forecast. As of today it is low 60s and sunny. Give this game ideal weather and watch the offenses fly! Last night I think K had the right plan and were keying on the right (very obviously best) Lafayette players they simply didn't tackle well AND they faced tons and tons of speedy athletes in all three games I saw in person. Staley is almost prohibitively the C5 favorite to get to Columbia and I do agree love PC's chance to finally make a C4 semi (winner of this game should win the quarter easily unless, again, the weather has its say).

Score 56-41 PC

Agreed - fans love the big hit, but nobody wants to see a kid get hurt. The Webb hit on Kearney's returner on the preceding series was just as high & just as hard, but Harris held onto the ball and continued to play (as tough a kid as you'll ever see.)

St. Joe's qb will cause problems for PC's D - kids fun to watch if he's not playing against your team. In the end, I think PC's receivers will be too much for Lafayette. Kearney's rb injured his ankle & didn't play the second half; not an excuse, and the backup played well, but there were a couple of runs that the backup made 12-15 yards, that Connery would have taken the distance (IMO, of course.)

Was not there so not aware he got hurt. THAT is a huge factor............

Hackman played his butt off , but it's just not the same. I'd guess both backs pushed 100 yards. INTs were a killer, but the game really shouldn't have been that close.

Best XP I've ever seen on K's first TD. Bad snap, holder fumbled with it; ball was laying flat on the ground (end pointing at Ogle), he hesitated and then just punched it through. St. Joe ran into holder & kicker both (didn't touch the ball) - Refs didn't flag them for it either...I think everyone was in shock that he made the K.

On paper definitely didn't look like a good one. I just felt Lafayette came in with a very high confidence/energy level after surviving a much improved Excelsior the week before. Sometimes when you stare into the abyss and escape it can propel you. As of today I expect to go to Platte City to catch what should be a track meet.

If anyone can’t make it. It will be online broadcasted as well. I’m excited for this game. I don’t want to pick the game this week. I’m feeling somewhere around 70-80 points between both teams easily.

Lafayette just gives me that same vibe Savannah did a few years ago that took Webb to the wire.

The QB is very talented no doubt but not, in my opinion, at McFadden's 2011 level nor do the Irish have a receiver like Deal was. The other facet of Savannah that year that was most impressive was the line play both sides. Not saying it won't happen but I don't expect it..............still think Platte County is the team that will see Webb in the semis.
