I'm shocked @Eagles_Ball hasn't come in with a Mama Bosko - knee pad joke yet!
I’m just not sure I understand the mentality of an athlete in a collision sport not wanting to cover the knees if for no other reason to prevent hard tissue contact with helmets, etc.
Maybe they used up all knee pad foam on those weird second layer on the helmets we are seeing more and more of.

It’s like the dangling mouthpiece. Gotta look cool, man. Even if it means banging those knees on helmets and cold hard turf.
Yeah the knee pads are so funny in high school the crew will come by and tell you to make sure they are covered but like holding calls as the game goes on the refs seem to get tired of enforcing it.
On the mouth pieces I guess kids wear two so they can dangle one, again refs will enforce until they get tired of it.

I can't wait till they show a kid flopping on the ground with his knee cap slid off to the side of the leg. I had a player with very little ligaments left in his knee and it would slide over all the time. Flopped down on ground then slid it back into place. It won't be that easy the first time it happens.
That was something I really noticed this season. The Jamboree I went to had kids consistently being sent off the field by officials for the knees not being covered... but once the season started.... NOTHING!!!!!!!
